I'm fine with high power consumption, as long as it brings the goods. It's winter anyway.

Considering Vega is released for the vast majority of consumers in the middle of summer it's time to buy fire insurance.

In another perspective, geographically it's only summer for half the planet. ;)

By the way, my GTX 970 has been disappointing me in a few titles, maybe I'll have to upgrade before 7 nm unlike what I initially expected. If only the Volta GPUs weren't going to be obviously so expensive... good times when their "104" chip was the GTX -60 cards, such as my previous GTX 460.

I think Volta might just be the GPU you are after to be honest, cost not withstanding. Although it should be a big chip.

GPU's in general are just getting more expensive these days as AMD isn't really competing. - Same wen't for CPU's untill AMD upset the market.

And in another perspective, that summer half houses 90% of all AMD consumers.

That's strange. I didn't hear about houses burning down because of Fury, Hawaii or other AMD cards. Even if I try to go back down memory lane, I don't recall hearing about houses burning down because of GTX 480 catching fire.

But it's nice of you to worry about the safety of fellow gamers.

Let's go with the last rounds of news of the week:

SALES & "SALES"/DEALS

Two articles about sales, and two about deals:

PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS has sold 4 million copies worldwide in just 3 months
http://www.dsogaming.com/news/playerunknowns-battlegrounds-4-million-copies-worldwide-in-3-months/
Bluehole Studio has just announced that PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS has sold 4 million copies in just three months. What’s really surprising here is that Steamspy’s data are lower than what Bluehole Studio reports (usually Steamspy’s data is approximately the same or a bit higher than the actual sales).

LoL was the top earning PC game in May, Overwatch & Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds still doing great
http://www.dsogaming.com/news/lol-was-the-top-earning-pc-game-in-may-overwatch-playerunknowns-battlegrounds-still-doing-great/
Superdata has released some new stats, reporting that while the worldwide digital video games market grew 9% year-over-year in May, PC sales declined by 30%. This decline was mainly due to Overwatch’s release in May 2016 which significantly boosted PC sales back then.

The Humble FPS Sale isn't quite the same scale as Steam's, but there are some good deals up for grabs, and until Saturday morning you can pick up a full copy of the original Killing Floor absolutely free.

>>Shikamo has made a thread about this opportunity.

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-humble-software-bundle-has-all-the-tools-you-need/
Humble Bundles are usually all about the games, but this one running for the next couple of weeks has your professional life in mind. The Humble Software Bundle is up right now, and it's got just about everything your PC would need, other than a ton of games, of course.

>>Since it's not about games, I didn't know where to put this, so I decided to put it here in the "software" section.
