Well, most of their best work is really old...I'd say last thing that was really good was Risen 1 and that's from 2009 (though I enjoyed both Risen 2 and 3)...so a lot of things might seem a bit off compared to modern tastes.

Combat in their games is extremely punishing, so it's getting used to, there is zero hand-holding (which I love), world building is expectional and stories and characters are very good.

I still find them (especially Gothic 1/2), unfortunately, to be best open-world action RPGs, even after all these years...and I say unfortunately, because, while I love PB games, there is lot that can be improved in that genre (which is probably the most difficult genre of all for making, if done properly)...but so far, IMO at least, no one managed to pull it off. Sure, there are bits and pieces in various games, but as a whole package, again IMO, genre has peaked with Gothic 1/2 and Morrowind, and neither of those games are anywhere near flawless.

I understand.

It's also worth mentioning that making those kind of games has gotten more and more expensive, and not every studio has the resources (or a publisher behind them) to make those kind of games anymore, at least not with good/very good graphics.

By the way, Morrowind is now on sale at Steam.

True, those games are quite expensive to make and no wonder Bethesda mainstreamed their games (to be polite) in order to reach wider audience and others followed suit. PB never really did, Risen 2/3 were somewhat of a try to do that, but it's no wonder they're not considered their best work.

Of course, problem with going mainstream (at least for players, publishers are quite happy about it) is that open world action-RPGs are less and less proper RPGs and more and more open world action-adventures with skill trees. That might not be problem for people who never actually played RPGs, but for those of us who yearn for deeper systems of the old this new trend is honestly quite troublesome.

Okay, here is the monthly update of Steam + SteamSpy stats:

  • no big Steam user growth in the SteamSpy estimates
  • despite of that 4 million more "powerful" systems... many GPU upgrades?
  • 30% of the Steam hardware should be able to keep up with PS4 + XBO
  • I added the PS4 hardware base (most popular console) for better growth comparison
  • GTX 1070 + GTX 1060 already in the top 5 of the most popular Steam GPUs
  • GTX 750 Ti as entry model still very popular
  • RX 480 with healthy growth, RX 460 + 470... not so much
  • Titan X Maxwell + Titan X Pascal now counted together... why?
  • no GTX 1080 Ti numbers yet
  • after a slight drop last month: Windows 10 64-bit again at more than 50%

Thanks for the numbers, Conina. They're always interesting.

I took part of the survey this past month, so one of those 1070 is mine.

He avoided too many specifics, but cited an inspiration we expected a lot of developers to draw from back when it released.

RUN FROM YOUR PROBLEMS AND GET A KNIFE IN THE LATEST KNUCKLE SANDWICH TRAILER

Knuckle Sandwich is the type of game that I want to take home and show to my dad because he's got the same, stupid sense of humour as me. It looks a lot like Earthbound, but as PC Gamer's Tom Marks said in his preview, "it never feels like [developer Andrew] Brophy is trying to lean on that nostalgia to make Knuckle Sandwich work."

There aren't many things I find as exciting as solving a mystery. And as someone who owns a VR headset and would like any excuse to spend more time with it, I am more than willing to solve a murder in virtual reality. Always amazes me to see how far the PS3 emulation has come. So much for the Power of the Cell making it impossible. Haha

Ikr! First time I saw the emulator, it could bearly play anything except boot up to a menu screen. Now it can almost play Persona 5. Heck, the cutscene's dont seem to lag and the battles are pretty playable so if a person really wanted to, they can play Persona 5 as is. Still, quite an amazing feet they have accomplished!

PS3 emulation is farther along than the Xbox 360 emulation as well.

I think in a couple of years, emulation quality, compatability and speed should be extremely good.
