Wardogs boss says "games need to cost more" and GTA 6 should've been the game to make the change

https://www.gamesradar.com/games/fps/wardogs-boss-says-games-need-to-cost-more-and-gta-6-shouldve-been-the-game-to-make-the-change/

Between that and the crunch comment, it feels weird to see how a well received game can be kind of sabotaged by its own CEO.

Like, just shut up man, you don't need to go out and say these things.

The annoying part is that he isn't necessarily even wrong, he has a great point possibly worth discussing... But he's making a game that's likely to have microtransactios eventually, so he automatically gets much less leeway in this discussion. If a game has microtransactions/DLC, it should already have much less pressure for a higher base game price, and the more microtransactions/DLC there are, the harder it is to justify a higher base game price. Conversely, if you only release the game and don't release any paid extra content for it, I don't think it's a surprise that there should be some pressure to have a higher base game price. Is a higher price guaranteed even then? I don't know, but that to me seems like a much more worthy discussion than if their paid extra content.

The biggest problem is that Wardogs is an Early Access title that sells for 40€. Given what he just said, I can think that he would have liked to sell it for 60/70€ even without all the content and who knows how much he and Team17 would have asked for when it fully launched.

In other words, the biggest problemn is his greed, even more so knowing that the game was made with a concurrent player count of around 5000 players (source).

It's absolutely criminal what kind of stuff you can patent. They basically patented something someone probably came up, or could easily have come up, with in a brainstorming session. There's no tangible work behind the core idea.

That said, I'm not sorry to see the adoption of such an idea hindered by a patent.

GTA: Liberty City Stories Unofficial PC Port Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/gta-liberty-city-stories-unofficial-pc-port-released/
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is a GTA game that was never released on PC. However, an unofficial PC version has just appeared. As such, PC gamers will now be able to play this GTA game without the need to use an emulator.
While GTA: Liberty City Stories never came out on PC, PC gamers could enjoy it via Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories PC Edition. Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories PC Edition was a mod for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. This mod brought all the missions and content from GTA: LCS to GTA: San Andreas. Sadly, though, this mod is no longer available for download on ModDB. For those who did not know, GTA: Liberty City Stories is set in Liberty City, a few years before the events of GTA III. You play as Toni Cipriani, a member of the Leone crime family.
The game features an open world, driving, shooting, missions, and plenty of side activities. It also brings back the dark and gritty style of GTA III while adding new areas, missions, and gameplay features.
Now, what’s cool here is that the PC version supports keyboard and mouse from the get-go. I don’t know, however, if it changes the UI fonts to display proper KB&M prompts. Still, this is, in my opinion, the best way to play the game.
Those interested can go ahead and download the PC port from this link (Github). This is based on the PSP version, and not on the enhanced PS2 version. Also, as with all PC recompilations, it does not have any in-game assets. As such, you’ll have to provide your own ROM file to run it.

New Skyrim Mod Adds Dynamic Terrain Deformation and Is a Must-Have
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/new-skyrim-mod-adds-dynamic-terrain-deformation-and-is-a-must-have/
Modder ‘NearMidnightNow’ has released an amazing new mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. This mod adds real-time terrain deformation. This will immediately remind you of the one we saw in Assassin’s Creed 3 and Horizon: Forbidden West.
Going into more detail, the mod makes Skyrim’s terrain react to the world around you. Actors, dropped gear, arrows, spells, shouts, and explosions can leave marks in the ground.
Different surfaces also react in different ways. Snow, sand, dirt, grass, mud, and ash all behave differently.
Weather can change the land over time. Rain can create mud, while snow can build up on the ground. Sunlight can also melt snow and dry the land.
Snow will not build up under tents, bridges, porches, or rock overhangs. Roads, docks, and doorsteps also keep their normal look. Fire can melt snow around campfires, braziers, forges, and torches. Running and jumping through snow also kicks up snowflakes based on your movement.
It’s also worth noting that the mod supports Seasons of Skyrim and even adds blood effects on snow, making battles look much more dramatic.
In my opinion, this is one of the best mods for Skyrim. As such, I highly recommend downloading it. You can do so from here (Nexus Mods). At the end of the article, you can also find some videos. These will give you an idea of what you can expect from it.

PS5 Emulator SharpEmu v0.0.4 release.2 Is Now Available for Download
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/ps5-emulator-sharpemu-v0-0-4-release-2-is-now-available-for-download/
The team behind the second-best PlayStation 5 emulator, SharpEmu, has released a new version of it. SharpEmu hits a new milestone as it’s now able to run 12 games, and 6 of them are playable at 60 FPS.
From what I’ve seen, the games that are playable at 60FPS are Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, Tetris Forever, Hoa, Dreaming Sarah, Terrarium and New Joe & Mac – Caveman Ninja.
At this point, I should note that this does not mean that these games can be played from start to finish. Some of them may have crashing issues at later stages. Still, it’s good to know that they can hit 60 FPS on the emulator.
As you will see, none of these games are very complex. In short, SharpEmu is still behind KyTyPS5. KyTyPS5 has made huge progress and is now well ahead of SharpEmu. Still, this does not mean the SharpEmu devs should stop working on it. In my opinion, this challenge should give them even more reason to keep improving the emulator.
Going into even more detail, release.2 is a small update for SharpEmu 0.0.4 that adds several fixes and improvements to the emulator. The update improves Vulkan support and adds support for the VK_EXT_shader_viewport_index_layer extension. It also fixes some shader and graphics issues.
The new version also brings a few useful changes to the user interface. Players can now turn off Vulkan implicit layers through the GUI or command line. The update also adds console settings and language selection. There are also fixes for Gen5 runtime paths and shader buffers.
Under the hood, SharpEmu v0.0.4-release.2 also fixes an AMD file cache issue and improves SPIR-V shader handling. These changes should help the emulator work with more games and hardware over time. SharpEmu is still an experimental project, so crashes and broken games can still happen.
Those interested can download this latest version of SharpEmu from here (Github). Just make sure to temper your expectations. You won’t be able to run Demon’s Souls Remake at 60 FPS with it. KyTyPS5 will most likely be able to achieve this first.

Demon’s Souls Remake Now Runs at 40-50 FPS on RTX 5090 With KyTyPS5
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/demons-souls-remake-now-runs-at-40-50-fps-on-rtx-5090-with-kytyps5/
Yesterday, we informed you about the latest version of SharpEmu. So, time for an update on the best PlayStation 5 emulator, KyTyPS5. YouTube’s PSXTech has shared a video showcasing Demon’s Souls Remake running at 40-50FPS on an Intel Core i9 14900K with an NVIDIA RTX 5090.
This is the smoothest I have seen Demon’s Souls Remake run on a PS5 emulator. It is a big step for KyTyPS5 and shows how much the emulator has improved with the game. If development continues at this pace, we could see the game reach 60 FPS by the end of 2026.
For those wondering, this is a fork/local build, and it’s not available on GitHub yet. So, no. You can’t download it. My guess is that it will be made available in the next couple of weeks.
I should also note that the rest of the game may not run as smoothly as we see in the video. This is only a 3-minute video, showing two to three locations. Still, things look mighty impressive.

Monster Hunter: World Seamless Co-Op Mod Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/monster-hunter-world-seamless-co-op-mod-released/
Modder ‘huntardy’ has released a Seamless Co-Op Mod for Monster Hunter World. This mod will allow for a proper co-op mode. In other words, you will keep your party together through quests, Expeditions, story moments, and time back in town.
MHW had a very limited co-op mode. Players would launch a quest, watch a cutscene and the game would notify the host that they can now fire an SOS Flare. Alternatively, one player could leave their quest, go back to the base, and join the other player’s active quest via the quest board.
With this mod, you will keep your party throughout the entire game. They won’t have to use the quest board, and you won’t have to fire an SOS flare. This will save you some time. At the same time, it will make the co-op experience much better and more enjoyable.
Those interested can download the mod from this link (Nexus Mods).

Nintendo 64 Exclusive Pilotwings 64 Gets Unofficial PC Port
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/nintendo-64-exclusive-pilotwings-64-gets-unofficial-pc-port/
Nintendo 64 fans, here is something for you today. An unofficial PC version of Pilotwings 64 has just been released. As such, PC gamers can now experience, play, and enjoy another game that was previously exclusive to consoles.
For those who did not know, Pilotwings 64 is the sequel to the SNES game, Pilotwings. It came out in 1996, and it puts the player in control of one of six pilots as they try to earn pilot licenses through various forms of aviation. The events are flying an autogyro, using a jet pack, and hang gliding. Several bonus tasks are offered, such as skydiving and a human cannonball test. The game also puts focus on allowing the player to freely explore its detailed 3D environments.
Pilotwings 64: Recompiled brings the classic Nintendo 64 game to Windows and Linux as a native PC port. You also get a launcher with graphics, sound, and control settings. Keyboard and controller support are included as well.
One of the biggest upgrades is widescreen support. The game can now use your display’s full aspect ratio, while the HUD stays near the screen edges. The old black overscan border is also gone. The port adds high frame rates through frame interpolation. This lets the game run at the refresh rate of your display, making movement much smoother than the original version.
The PC port also removes long waits between some screens. The original game could pause for up to six seconds when changing some menus. The recompiled version makes these changes instant. Players can also remap controls and use mods through the launcher. The project supports both Windows and Linux, but you need your own copy of the US version of Pilotwings 64. No game data is included with the port.
You can go ahead and download this unofficial PC port of Pilotwings 64 from here (Github).

This ambitious Half-Life 2 mod asks: what if Iron Lung had a submarine and an airship?
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/horror/this-ambitious-half-life-2-mod-asks-what-if-iron-lung-had-a-submarine-and-an-airship/
Like many people, I'm a big fan of quickfire submarine horror adventure Iron Lung. Yet despite receiving rave reviews and spawning a film adaptation by Markiplier, surprisingly few games have picked up its baton of vehicular terror. There are other submarine horror games like Barotrauma, as well as job-based horror games like Klekta and Shift at Midnight. But the former has quite a different vibe, while the latter pair seem more inspired by Lethal Company than David Szymanski's 2022 horror.
Which is why I'm so intrigued by The Temple (ModDB), an upcoming Half-Life 2 total conversion that likewise lets players pilot a terror submarine. But the temple ups the ante by adapting the scares into two other forms of transportation, taking players out of the depths all the way up into space.
The Temple is set on an aquatic planet dotted by strange, concrete megastructures, which you're tasked with exploring using three separate vehicles. One, as mentioned, is a submarine that will take you into the depths of its ocean. The others are an airship for exploring its skies and abandoned towers, and a space shuttle that lets you travel to asteroidal moons that orbit the planet.
The Temple was originally released as a pair of maps for MapLabs (ModDB), a mod that collects together maps from various Source engine modding competitions. While that initial version was fairly short—around 20 minutes in length—the total conversion will revamp and expand those two existing maps, while also adding a third map for over two hours of exploration-based sci-fi horror.
There's a trailer for the mod that you can watch above, which shows all three of its vehicles in action. For a short Half-Life 2 mod, it looks pretty accomplished, with a real eye for colossal structures. The mod also features Amnesia: The Dark Descent-style invisible water monsters, and a talking crow (or at least, a crow whose corvid language you can understand), which will help guide you through the experience.

Super Mario Galaxy Is Getting an Unofficial PC Native Port
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/super-mario-galaxy-is-getting-an-unofficial-pc-native-port/
PC gamers have been able to play Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 on PC through a Nintendo Wii emulator since 2016. Now, more than a decade later, the first SMG game will get a PC port. Yes, you read that right. An unofficial native PC port is coming soon. As such, this game will no longer need a Wii emulator to run on PC.
Created by Luma’s Workshop, this unofficial PC port is made by humans without the use of AI tools. It’s codenamed AstroCore, and it will be released soon.
Although we don’t have a specific ETA for when it will come out, its team released a trailer for it. This trailer showcases the game running on PC smoothly at 60 FPS.
What’s also cool here is that the Luma’s Workshop decompilation team will be moving to Super Mario Galaxy 2 after some cleanup work. So, one day, we will be able to play both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 natively on PC.
It’s also worth noting that these projects will not feature any in-game assets. As such, Nintendo will not be able to shut them down. This is exactly what’s been happening with all the recent PC recompilations, and why all of them are still available. So, fear not, everyone. Once they are out, these projects will be live for a long time.
>> The trailer is in the article, of course.

Classic Console Exclusive Mercenaries Gets Unofficial PC Port
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/console-exclusive-mercenaries-unofficial-pc-port-released/
Another day, another unofficial PC port of another console exclusive title. This time, we have an unofficial PC port of the first Mercenaries game. This is something that a lot of PC fans have been waiting for. So, if you are one of them, you should download it right now.
For those who did not know, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction is an action-adventure game made by Pandemic Studios and published by LucasArts. It was released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
(...)
The PC port is based on the Xbox version. As with all PC recompilations, it does not contain any in-game assets. This means that to run it, you’ll have to provide your own Xbox ISO.
Mercenaries Recompiled PC supports widescreen monitors, resolutions up to 4K, and unlocks the framerate to 60 FPS. It also has a setting to triple the NPC wake distance so that you won’t get any T-poses/placeholders of NPCs in the distance.
From what I’ve seen, the PC port supports keyboard and mouse from the get-go. However, the mouse only works while you are in-game. It does not work in the menus. So, be sure to keep that in mind.
You can go ahead and download Mercenaries Recompiled PC from this link (Google Drive). At the end of the article, you can also find a trailer for it. This trailer highlights its main features, so be sure to watch it.

I dove into the demo for Probably Stolen yesterday, and it took me quite a while to come up for air. 'I sit in terror looking at the 750,000 wishlists': A nervous dev brings a classic Flash game to Steam
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/i-sit-in-terror-looking-at-the-750-000-wishlists-a-nervous-dev-brings-a-classic-flash-game-to-steam/
In 2021 Chrome finally killed Adobe Flash and with it countless fantastic browser games.
That's why it's always great to see a Flash classic survive, like Happy Wheels, the mega-popular ragdoll physics racing game-slash-bloodbath. Its developer, Jim Bonacci, created a Javascript version in 2020 so the classic game could live beyond Chrome and Adobe's murder party, and this week it finally arrived on Steam, too. I'm already having a bloody good time with it.

That alone makes it one of my easiest recommendations on Steam, but it also just got a free update of the GOTY/Enhanced/Definitive Edition variety, from its solo dev, while still only asking new players for $6 upfront—$4 at the time of writing, thanks to a sale running through September 30 (...)

Between 70 and 80% of Blood Bowl 3 games were solo
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/between-70-and-80-percent-of-blood-bowl-3-games-were-solo/
You'll know this frustration if you've ever been part of the community around a game that has both singleplayer and multiplayer modes. People who prefer one to the other are always convinced the other cohort doesn't exist. "Nobody plays this game in a different way to me and my friends, and anyone who says they do is lying."
In the case of the Blood Bowl videogames, the fact the CPU's tactics are so rudimentary has always given people who prefer the multiplayer mode ammunition for claiming the other half doesn't exist. Now we've got proof they're actually the majority. As Cyanide programmer Mathieu Valero recently told Wargamer, between 70 and 80% of Blood Bowl 3 games were played solo in Eternal Leagues.
This came up in the context of Blood Bowl 3's imminent replacement by Warhammer Blood Bowl. One of the improvements, Valero suggests, will be the AI. "We didn't have an AI—now we do", as he put it. "There are still a bunch of factions and builds that it's more able to play well: you want to give it Guard and Block, and don't go fancy with the combos that a human would be able to do", he went on to say, but "give something reliable to the AI, and you're gonna have a game to play".

The next retro games coming to Steam are a pair of extremely 1990s run-and-gunners where Spanish Goku fights mutants
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/the-next-retro-games-coming-to-steam-are-a-pair-of-extremely-1990s-run-and-gunners-where-spanish-goku-fights-mutants/
In the 1990s, Spanish videogame label Gaelco was responsible for a string of arcade games (and also electronic dartboards) that hardly anyone outside Spain knows about, bar perhaps the occasional breakout like World Rally.
Retro specialists QUByte Interactive are bringing two of Gaelco's obscurities to Steam this year, resurrecting arcade action games Thunder Hoop and its sequel TH Strikes Back. The genetically engineered and oddly named Thunder Hoop of the title is a hand-blasting hero who fights armies of mutants unleashed by the evil Dr Genbreak.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/survival-crafting/minecraft-is-getting-its-first-new-dimension-in-15-years-and-it-is-riotously-pink/
Since its release in 2011, Minecraft has received countless new biomes, but its number of dimensions has remained consistent over the last fifteen years. But that's all about to change. As of next year, a fourth dimension will soon join the Overworld, the Nether, and the End. It's called the Sift, it is riotously pink, and features bunny-like creatures that walk rather than hop.

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/the-spiritual-successor-to-classic-jrpg-wild-arms-has-seemingly-been-cancelled-four-years-after-its-kickstarter-raised-nearly-usd3-million/
Armed Fantasia— which was a spiritual successor to the popular JRPG series Wild Arms and not a first-person shooter starring Mickey Mouse—has been cancelled four years after its Kickstarter campaign raised almost $3 million.
As reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, Armed Fantasia is one of several titles for which Digital Bros—the parent company of 505 Games—has decided to "discontinue development of" as revealed in its most recent financial statement.

Gears of War story director laid off mere days after E-Day went gold

While The Coalition, the studio currently working on the Gears of War series, was not mentioned by name in Matt Booty's "Continuing Our Reset" blog post, story director Juan Vaca announced on LinkedIn that he is now looking for work.

I'm sure whoever chose to charge for WoW: Forever beta access is feeling very chuffed, given Blizzard's had to expand its server size a second time

It's official—the WoW: Forever beta has sold like hotcakes for Blizzard. In case you're not in the know, Forever doesn't have an entry price (it's just part of your normal WoW subscription), however, its elves are $30. And, if you want to get into the beta, which'll be running until the game releases in November? That'll be $60 (£52), please.
Server queues were rammed on November 17, and Forever's devs have been utterly swarmed by the amount of people clamouring to play this reinvented version of Classic. So much so that, as Longdale reveals above, Blizzard's had to increase the population cap not once, but twice.

Arc Raiders is messing with your loot hotspots to make games more exciting
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/arc-raiders-is-messing-with-your-loot-hotspots-to-make-games-more-exciting/
I'm really liking what I've been seeing from Arc Raiders over the last few weeks in the lead up to its major Frozen Trails update. It feels like the devs have stacked up a slew of quality-of-life improvements in preparation for this big '2.0 moment'.
A PvE mode is the one the bigger changes, but there's also a few smaller tweaks which could have a major impact on the game and its replayability: Such as the dynamic loot zones, mentioned above.

It's absolutely criminal what kind of stuff you can patent. They basically patented something someone probably came up, or could easily have come up, with in a brainstorming session. There's no tangible work behind the core idea.

That said, I'm not sorry to see the adoption of such an idea hindered by a patent.

This is not some BS patent like the one about yelling the name of the product to skip the add. This patent involves adding extra hardware to the controller to make this a possibility, meaning that it's someting only Sony can do with their first party controllers.

This is easily something Sony is actually interested in to boost income from microtransactions and such.
