40 TFLOPs is about 9070 boost speed, or 9070XT base performance. That should be absolutely serviceable, but RT will quickly get thrown out of the window as it won't be powerful enough to do so shortly after release.

56 TFLOPS I'm project Helix however are a different beast. A theoretical 9080 with that performance would have smoked the 5080. If the console will not get choked by the memory or other components, it should have much more headroom to run ray tracing or maybe even path tracing early on, and run games in higher base resolutions and/or frame rates in general.

We don't know what improvements RDNA5 will bring compared to RDNA4 when it comes to RT and the like so, it's a bit early to talk about how it will perform in those tasks.

Besides, there's that project amethyst thing that has RT as one of the tasks to help with.

Absolutely, just wanted to give a rough estimate based on the TFLOPS, which I know is very flawed, but I wanted to show what AMD currently has in that performance class to compare. And here the verdict still stands;

If AMD had released an RDNA 4 GPU with the raw TFLOPs of project Helix, then that GPU would have smoked the 5080, and since both Helix and PS6 are based on the same architecture, Helix will probably be significantly more powerful and will keep up with PC for longer unless they're bottlenecking the console somewhere else that would prevent it.

Something else to keep in mind that either I didn't remember or didn't know:

AMD’s 2027 Radeon GPU packs 9% more CUs than RX 9070 XT, says leaker
https://www.club386.com/amd-2027-radeon-gpu-at2-cus/
Renowned hardware leaker Kepler_L2 has confirmed the core configuration of AMD’s upcoming AT2 gaming GPU which is expected to arrive at the end of 2027.(...)

Note that while the focus of this leak is the AT2 chip, this is neither the only nor the biggest design AMD is rumoured to be planning with RDNA 5. Kepler_L2 has previously released diagrams of a much larger GPU, believed to be the AT0. Better yet, RDNA 5 CUs are also rumoured to house twice as many SMs (stream processors) as RDNA 4, meaning this AT0 chip would carry three times as many SMs as the RX 9070 XT.

I think at 40 TFLOPS it will be faster than 9070XT in raster, due to architectural advancements in RDNA 5 (which supposed to be substantial), and much better at RT.

If you thought that today you wouldn't have to deal with my boring posts, you were wrong!

I found last weekend that Steam was still doing the best releases of each month thing, it's just that they're lower in the front page and I don't use to scroll so far down. Sadly, I couldn't post them on Sunday because the site was down, but today you're not so lucky.

So, let's begin and do them in order:

Console Exclusive WET Gets Unofficial PC Port
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/console-exclusive-wet-gets-unofficial-pc-port/
Another day, another unofficial PC port of a console-exclusive game. This time, we bring you the unofficial PC port of WET, a game that came out in 2009 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
For those who did not know, WET is a third-person action game, created by Artificial Mind & Movement and published by Bethesda. You play as Rubi Malone, a skilled gun-for-hire. Rubi is fast, tough, and good with both guns and a sword. The game is built around fast combat, wild stunts, and stylish action.
WET also has a strong grindhouse movie feel. Rubi can run, jump, slide, and shoot at the same time. She can also use her sword to cut down foes up close. The game has bright action scenes, slow-motion moves, and fast chase parts.
Now, what’s cool about this unofficial PC port is that it supports keyboard and mouse. PC gamers can use the mouse to look around, fire their gun with the left mouse button, and use their sword with the right mouse button. There is also an Ultra graphics preset you can use. This preset increases render scale to 2X/3X, enables FXAA Extreme, and forces AF 16x.
You can go ahead and download this unofficial PC port of WET from this link (Github). Like all other PC recompilations, it does not contain any in-game assets. As such, you will have to provide your own ISO in order to play it.

Dark Souls 2 Seamless Co-Op Mod Is Available for Download
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/dark-souls-2-seamless-co-op-mod-is-available-for-download/
Modder ‘Yui’ has just released the Seamless Co-Op Mod for Dark Souls 2. This mod allows you to play with friends throughout the entirety of the game with no restrictions.
As the modder noted, with this, it’s theoretically possible to play the game from the tutorial up to the final boss completely in one co-op session.
With this mod, players will stay in the same world after death and return at the last bonfire they used. Boss kills and cleared areas will no longer end the session or send players home. Fog walls and other limits will also be removed.
The game will keep NPC talks and world events in sync for all players. Resting at a bonfire will reset the world for everyone. Progress made in co-op will also carry over to each player’s own world. You can play with up to five other players, and the game will also get a new peer-to-peer system using Steam’s newer network tools.
The Seamless Co-Op Mod also adds many quality-of-life features. Players can join the host from anywhere in the world. If they get disconnected, they can quickly rejoin the game. Other changes include a menu volume option, better controller support, borderless fullscreen mode, and the ability to skip the ending credits. The mod also brings back some old cosmetic items.
Since the mod can make the game easier, it adds new ways to keep the challenge. Players can change enemy scaling to fit their needs. They also cannot rest at a bonfire while another player fights a boss. If you die during a boss fight or invasion, you must watch the other players until the fight ends or someone rests at a bonfire. There is also an optional curse system that makes enemies harder after each death. Too many deaths can even cause trouble in the game world.
All in all, this is one of the best mods for Dark Souls 2. So, if you are currently playing it, I suggest downloading it. You can do so from this link (Nexus Mods).

Grand Theft Auto 2 RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/mods/grand-theft-auto-2-rtx-remix-path-tracing-mod-released/
Modder ‘gabdeg’ has released an RTX Remix Path Tracing mod for Grand Theft Auto 2. This mod will allow you to play this classic GTA game with real-time path tracing. This is a really cool way to re-experience this classic game. So, don’t sleep on it.
Thanks to Path Tracing, GTA 2 now has better lighting, including lights from fires, explosions, and gunfire. We also get a dynamic time of day for Remix Plus. For those who did not know, Remix Plus stands for custom community runtime forks or atmospheric add-on packs.
Furthermore, the RTX Remix mod adds emissive maps to some textures and fixes the 16:9 view. This stops cars and people from popping in at the sides of the screen. It can also reach 60 FPS with Frame Generation. Also, players can press F4 to open a settings panel and adjust the lighting and time of day.
What’s also cool here is that you can download GTA 2 for free. Rockstar Games made the game available as a free download in December 2004 as part of their “Rockstar Classics” series.
You can go ahead and download the RTX Remix Mod from here (Github). You can also download GTA 2 from here (oldgamesdownload.com).

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link Unofficial PC HD Remake Released
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/zelda-ii-the-adventure-of-link-unofficial-pc-hd-remake-released/
Zelda fans, here is something really special for you today. Troygentic has just released an unofficial PC HD Remake of the NES Zelda game, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. This unofficial HD Remake will allow you to play this classic Zelda game natively on PC.
What’s really cool is that Troygentic has gone the extra mile to rework some of the game’s sprites. Not all areas are finished yet, but the first areas are now complete. As you can see in the trailer below, they look incredible.
And that’s not all. This unofficial HD Remake supports widescreen with real scenery on the sides instead of a stretched image. It also adds two-player co-op, letting a second Link join on the same system or online. We also get save states, fast-forward, movie playback, and gamepad support.
In short, this is the HD remake that many Zelda 2 fans have wanted for years. The funny part is that you cannot play it on a Nintendo console. On PC, though, you can experience it right now.
You can go ahead and download this HD remake of Zelda 2 from here (Github). As for the HD Texture Pack, you’ll have to visit Troygentic’s Discord server to download it.
To avoid any legal issues, this project does not contain any in-game assets. This means you’ll have to provide your own ROM to play it.

Steam game disables mods after facing its second Workshop malware outbreak this year
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/sim/steam-game-disables-mods-after-facing-its-second-workshop-malware-outbreak-this-year/
What happened

  • On September 22, Studio Minus—the developer of ragdoll torture sandbox People Playground—posted a Steam news update saying it had disabled the game's Steam Workshop support "due to yet another malicious mod," which the developer said was "especially bad"
  • The developer has since released a new build of People Playground that prevents mods from running, saying on its Discord that Workshop and mod support will only return if "mods are fundamentally safe to run," which "might never happen"
  • A redditor who inspected the malicious Workshop mod claims the mod hijacks the user's Steam account to republish itself on the Workshop along with the user's personal information, destroys files for People Playground and other installed Steam games, and sends slurs to the user's Steam friends
  • Despite initially claiming that the infected mod "does not steal passwords" or other credentials, Studio Minus is urging People Playground users to change their Discord passwords as soon as possible, as well as "the passwords of all your important accounts"
  • This is People Playground's second Workshop malware incident this year: Studio Minus previously disabled the game's Workshop after a similar outbreak of self-replicating malware in February

At this point, you're playing People Playground at your own risk
And Studio Minus seems to agree. In a blog post from last month, zooi—People Playground's primary developer—called the game a "technical hellscape," which makes it "technically impossible to properly sandbox mods in their current state." While the studio claims that the software has measures in place to prevent malicious mod activity, zooi called it a "hopeless arms race."
When a studio's developer doesn't seem confident about the viability of their project's security measures, you shouldn't either. But while People Playground seems like a particularly intense dumpster fire, 2026 hasn't inspired much confidence in the safety of Steam Workshop overall.

Gears of War: Redux Update 1.1.3439 Available for Download
https://www.dsogaming.com/patches/gears-of-war-redux-update-1-1-3439-available-for-download/
Modder ‘PunishedWolf’ has released Update 1.1.3439 for Gears of War: Redux. This update brings numerous improvements to the community overhaul of Gears of War 1. Additionally, the modder has shared its full patch notes. So, let’s dive in.
Thanks to this update, Gears of War: Redux now includes a 64-bit build. It is no longer limited to 4 GB of memory. This should fix many out-of-memory crashes on large maps and during long Horde runs. The launcher picks the 64-bit build for you, but you can switch back to 32-bit at any time.
One of the biggest changes in Update 1.1.3439 is better shader streaming. According to the modder, most streaming stutters are now gone. Before this update, the game could not save the shaders it built while you played. This meant it had to build the same shaders again every time you played. Now, the game saves them as it should. The update also includes a new set of rebuilt shaders.
The update also makes loading faster with PhysX 2.8.4. It now reads saved collision data instead of building it again during loading. Handheld players also get new 40 FPS and 45 FPS limits.
Furthermore, we get native support for NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR. Gears of War: Redux no longer needs injectors, wrappers, or DLL swaps to use them. In theory, this should also make DLSS and FSR run better than before.
Finally, the modder has updated 10 maps across Gears 1, Gears 2, and the Gears 2 remakes, plus the Factory campaign level.
As I’ve said before, this overhaul is for the original PC version of Gears of War. It’s not for the Reloaded Edition. So, make sure to keep that in mind. The visual enhancements that came with the Reloaded Edition are nowhere to be found.
Gears of War: Redux Update 1.1.3439 is available via its new launcher. You can download it from this link (ModDB).

Marathon and ARC Raiders Could Get New PvE Game Modes
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/marathon-and-arc-raiders-could-get-new-pve-game-modes/
Embark Studios and Bungie have announced that ARC Raiders and Marathon, two of the latest extraction shooters, will get pure PvE game modes.
Going into more detail, the Symbiosis Update for Marathon will add its first permanent PvE mode. This mode will let you explore, test new ideas, and take on challenges without worrying about other Runners hunting you. The update will also add a Team Deathmatch mode. This will give you a quick way to practice your skills and fight other players without putting a full run at risk.
On the other hand, Embark Studios will run a PvE matchmaking test next month. The test will take place from October 13 to 20. Players will be able to choose between the classic ARC Raiders PvPvE mode and a new PvE mode. This new mode will focus on co-op play. Players can team up with other Raiders and fight the ARC threat together.

The Arc Raiders Frozen Trail update is bigger than anyone expected: new ARC, gun upgrades, a map, and personal outposts you can decorate
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/the-arc-raiders-frozen-trail-update-is-bigger-than-anyone-expected-new-arc-gun-upgrades-a-map-and-personal-outposts-you-can-decorate/
Embark said "let us cook" back in May and has reappeared with a three course meal. Frozen Trail is the first fruits of Arc Raiders' new six-month gap between major updates. The 2.0 patch gives a comprehensive pass on nearly every facet of the extraction shooter, reworking skills, introducing customizable homes, and delivering core add-ons like a new map, guns, and ARC enemies.
>> But wait, there’s more: Here’s an article about the reworked skill tree (link); and players will have the chance to build their home Topside (link):

World of Warcraft: Forever's first patch will bring back the number one thing seasoned players missed from the MMO's past: storms

If there's one thing that Blizzard nailed with World of Warcraft: Forever, it's the atmosphere. There's nothing quite like walking under the moonlight in Tirisfal Glades listening to distant howls and flapping wings on the way to your next quest. But many players familiar with the era of WoW it's based on felt like it was missing something.
(...)
It turns out, Blizzard agrees, and will be cranking the weather effects up to 10 in "certain" WoW: Forever beta zones, according to a teaser video for the next patch. The video is an ASMR-style montage of a rainstorm in Elwynn Forest. The screen is so thick with rain and fog it's hard to see past the trees bordering the town of Goldshire. It's a real storm that makes you instinctively want to duck into the inn to stay dry.

20 More, Somehow Even Smaller, Mazes by developer FLEB is a free puzzle game and a sequel to 20 Small Mazes. (Don't worry, you don't have to have played 20 Small Mazes to get what's going on in 20 More, Somehow Even Smaller Mazes, but if you'd like to play 20 Small Mazes it's also free.)

Quake Champions takes a shower, shedding all its 2017 live-service grime and becoming a $10 game
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/quake-champions-takes-a-shower-shedding-all-its-2017-live-service-grime-and-becoming-a-usd10-game/
After nine years, Quake Champions is a live-service game no more: The free-to-play arena shooter is now even more old school as a regular $10 product on Steam. All champions are unlocked from the jump, so you don't have to buy characters piecemeal like way too many games were asking us to do in the mid-2010s. Recently purchased premium currency will be refunded, but if you spent years dropping cash on skins, it might be a little awkward that everybody else now gets those at no additional cost.

Rogue Trader is coming to an end with miracles, madness and 'tears of blood'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/rogue-trader-is-coming-to-an-end-with-miracles-madness-and-tears-of-blood/
Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader's three-year run of expansions is drawing to a close this December with Processional of the Damned. Like the previous DLCs, Processional will introduce a new storyline and companion, both integrated into the existing story rather than coming after the end of the campaign. And your new buddy, well, she sounds pretty extra. A bit risky, maybe?

'We all thought we were bringing extraction to the masses, and we didn't'
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/we-all-thought-we-were-bringing-extraction-to-the-masses-and-we-didnt/
A few illustrative quotes from the "Future of Marathon Part 1" video that Bungie published today. The team (recently reduced by Sony layoffs) were candid in their plans to transform Marathon from purely an extraction shooter to something more Destiny-shaped: Easier onboarding, dedicated PvE options, a wider variety of PvP (Including a team deathmatch mode), and a greater emphasis on story. This upcoming vision for Marathon sounds less hardcore and, ideally, more broad in its appeal.
The two major milestones for Marathon's future will be the December Symbiosis update and a March 2027 update. Here's what Bungie's laid out for those.

Control Resonant embarrasses me, specifically, with a launch day hotfix negating my main review complaint
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/control-resonant-embarrasses-me-specifically-with-a-launch-day-hotfix-negating-my-main-review-complaint/
Today is Control Resonant's launch day, and as I wrote in our review, it's peak Remedy. It's a gorgeously surreal atmosphere to sink into—but I had one main complaint. Its combat system centers around building ways to turn your piddly attacks into heavy hitters, which has the unfortunate side effect of making most of its hours of monster fighting a slog of inflated health pools.
Or at least, that was the case until earlier today. Ahead of launch, Remedy released a launch day hotfix that essentially looked me in the eye to say, Nice review you wrote there—would be a real shame if someone made it irrelevant.

Call of Duty 'cosmetic toggle' will cleanse Warzone of its Party City aesthetic
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/call-of-duty/call-of-duty-cosmetic-toggle-will-cleanse-warzone-of-its-party-city-aesthetic/
This time last year, Call of Duty had to look itself in the mirror and admit that all the ugly crossover skins had gotten out of hand. The company committed to a clean break with Black Ops 7: No old skins would carry forward, and future cosmetics would have to fit the Black Ops universe to make the cut. That lasted for about three months, when a CoD x Fallout collaboration arrived and all bets were off again.
This new toggle is, without a doubt, a positive change for CoD that I personally never expected to happen. If I were a Warzone diehard, I'd turn this on from day one and never look back. It's a shame, though, that this toggle appears to be only a temporary vacation from tacky outfits.

It's tough to stand out in today's games industry, but 'sorta like Helldivers 2 except dog people' worked on me
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/third-person-shooter/its-tough-to-stand-out-in-todays-games-industry-but-sorta-like-helldivers-2-except-dog-people-worked-on-me/
Here are some reasons to try the Gravhounds open playtest on Steam:

  • It's free for the next few days and seems well put-together for a playtest of an unreleased early access game
  • It's a co-op wave shooter and those are basically always fun to muck around in with friends, at least for a bit
  • The movement feels good, especially gliding across networks of buildable cables
  • There's a light resource mining and tower defense element that has potential
  • You collect resources by hucking them across the map with a gravity gun, which is satisfying (just don't do it with explosive materials, I learned)
  • It doesn't really play like Helldivers 2, it just replicates the home base spaceship setup, but it's a good format, and the shooting is fun

Also, you may have noticed that the characters are dogs with people bodies.

I am now certain The Blood of Dawnwalker's time limit should've just been a setting, after hearing about Rebel Wolves' attempts to thread the needle
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/i-am-now-certain-the-blood-of-dawnwalkers-time-limit-shouldve-just-been-a-setting-after-hearing-about-rebel-wolves-attempts-to-thread-the-needle/
Listen—I like The Blood of Dawnwalker, I've had a pretty good time with it thus far, but by far its most interesting mechanic from the preview I played, the time limit, is by far the least impactful element of the full game. It's still kinda there, you still kinda need to keep an eye on it, but short of doing a full completionist sweep of the worldmap? It doesn't really stop you from doing what you want to do.
And hey, I understand why some folks didn't like that, and moved faster than a hungry vampire in a blood bank to mod it out of their games. But I actually wanted to go the other way—I wanted it to be harsher. And to hear that it was harsher at some point in development actually makes me kinda disappointed.
