China is apparently blocking the import and sales of the 5090D V2, which only has 24GB VRAM, not enough for many AI agents.

Now the question is what Nvidia will do with all the cards they already produced and shipped out.

My guess: half will go to the black market, the rest will be further cut down and then reused for a 5080Ti

AMD set to launch Ryzen 7 7700X3D with 8 cores and 96MB L3 cache

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-set-to-launch-ryzen-7-7700x3d-with-8-cores-and-96mb-l3-cache

I understand, even if it's very surprising, the move from AMD to launch more 5000 CPUs to squeeze the AM4 platform as much as possible, more so nowadays with RAM prices. But why are they launchign this CPU? Why focus on zen4 when it would make more sense to launch the 9700X3D instead?

What are you doing, AMD?

Sony retreats from PC gaming, robbing us of maybe 4 games

Despite the vibe of the editorial, there are some valid points in it.

I tend to agree with their view, on a personal level.  The ps5 doesn't release that many new games, plus the cost of online.  I would buy their games on Steam, but have zero plans to buy a ps6.  Not when 99% of the lineup between the Playstation and Steam are identical.  Missing out on a few games isn't a huge hit, my backlog is massive anyway.  I personally think this is a mistake by Sony.  I can't imagine releasing their games 18 months post ps5 launch would damage their brand and only would be free money.  But whatever, Sony can do what they want.  I have plenty of PC games that need playing.

Are the 5090Ds using a different chip or is it a BIOS block that caps the performance? Because if it's the later, Nvidia can get those GPUs back and sell them in the rest of the world as regular 5090s.

Indeed, the number of exclusives on consoles isn't that big anymore to make a difference to most players, and with the amount of games that launch first on PC to make use (and some also abuse) the Early Access strategy, you can make an argument that there are many PC timed exclusives that console players need to wait for.

Going to try having a bit of fun with this.

Didn't imagine I'd be using an RTX 5080 with a CRTV, but retro gaming apparently looks a lot better that way, so lets give it a go.

Yeah, CRTs are still by far the best option for retro games.

Modern beam simulator shader/high refresh OLED (240+Hz) combos are getting closer, but they are still not there yet - we'll probably need to wait for Micro LED (not to be confused with Micro RGB) to be available to consumers at reasonable price for that, as they can solve brightness, response time and subpixel grid issues that using OLED still can't.

Pixel response is a problem with OLED?  Not my area of expertise, so it is an honest question.  My OLED claims 0.1 ms response time.

Not problem per se, but if you want to emulate CRT perfectly, then yeah - your OLED is 100 microseconds (they go as low as 20-30), CRTs are around 1-10 microseconds, and MicroLED is in nanoseconds range (which is, honestly, an overkill for pure CRT simulation).

And, as you may have guessed, its first mods have hit the Internet. Therefore, I’ve decided to collect those I found interesting and share them in one article. So, let’s dive in.

Playable Demo for SNES-Style Fan Demake of Final Fantasy 16
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/playable-demo-for-snes-style-fan-demake-of-final-fantasy-16/
Final Fantasy fans, get ready for a treat. A fan has released a playable demo of an SNES-style demake of Final Fantasy 16 on PC, which you can download right now.
Going into even more details, xvibit has reimagined the free PC demo of Final Fantasy XVI as an SNES FF game. The demake has all the content that’s present in the free PC demo. It does not cover the entire game. So, make sure to keep that in mind. From what I know so far, there are no plans to cover other areas.
The demake features new chiptune arrangements of 18 tracks from FFXVI’s first chapter, as well as a mix of modified SNES FF SFX. It also has sprites, original pixel art, and tilesets by artists from the itch community.
I know that a lot of people wanted to play FF16 with a turn-based combat system. And, while this is a fan demake, it does allow you to experience something like that. So, if you are an old-school Final Fantasy fan, you should definitely check it out.
