Leaked Intel roadmap lists Meteor Lake-S (6P+8E) die as canceled

https://videocardz.com/newz/leaked-intel-roadmap-lists-meteor-lake-s-6p8e-die-as-canceled

And just yesterday I saw some early benches of Meteor Lake, but with a slightly different core setup (I'll link it if I find it again): 6p/8e/2ee , the latter 2 cores being extra efficient, hence why I dubbed them ee. Not sure what's the point of that design, though

The 7600 is underwhelming. 20% boost over the 6600. - 5% boost over the 6600XT.
And on-par/slightly slower than the 6650XT.
These are all 8GB parts which is understandable. Not great, but understandable.

Pricing is really going to be the determining factor on how successful the 7600 ends up being...

For me personally, waiting on the 7700XT/7800XT, my days of buying the latest and greatest GPU's are over as I just dont play high-end games like I used to on PC, as I tend to involve myself in RTS titles for the most part which are driven more by the CPU. (Hence the Ryzen 9)

Would rather buy a tier or two lower and upgrade more frequently for newer features... That and I have set a strict budget of $700 AUD for GPU's every year or two and $1,000 for the CPU.

^ I mean, if the 7600 is $299, that's a 32% increase in performance/price ratio from the last generation, which is par for the course considering the 40 series numbers above.

Sure, but the 6600 series came out when there were chip shortages + mining boom. $299 is more than a better RX 6700 with 10GB.
I think a lot of Polaris 8GB or 1060/1070 owners struggle with 1080p and 1080 Ti owners struggle with 1440p and many of them are not willing to accept that GPU prices increased 2x, but that kind of price to performance cards will never come back.

Yea the glory days are pretty much gone and the uplifts in performance gen on gen should be slowing down. Maxwell > Pascal went from 28nm > 16nm. We ain't gonna see jumps like that anymore and with fabs continuously raising prices while having smaller jumps every generation, it will get reflected in the products one way or another until the engineers find ways to reduce costs. I suppose DLSS is certainly a band-aid in that sense but unless we see a revolutionary node strink, I don't see how we gonna ever get gen on gen uplifts like those days.

Formatting question for a non OS HDD.

With a new large internal media (only) storage HDD, if you set the NTFS allocation size much higher like 2048kb instead of 4kb, would that make for faster file transfers? Like if you were moving music or movie files from that internal HDD to a USB3 external drive, assuming that external drive isn't a slouch, would the transfer speeds be any higher at 2048kb vs 4kb, and if so, a little faster or a lot?

it doesn't make a difference for large file transfers, but fragmentation over time should be lower. Fragmentation was more of an issue when HDDs were used as system drives. Large file transfers are limited by the capabilities of the HDD.

Appreciate it. Thanks.

AMD Radeon RX 7600 to launch May 25, $269/€299

https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-radeon-rx-7600-to-launch-with-269-e299-msrp

Lower than expected tbh. Think that's an okay price even when stacked up against the 6600/6650XT. The only thing is the 6700 costs around the same, probably performs about the same at 1080P. But the latter comes with 2GB more VRAM, higher memory bus and bandwidth. Higher infinity cache 80MB vs 32MB. For this price segment, I would personally pick up a 6700 while it lasts, especially if you play at 1440P.

Or spend the extra and get the 6700XT. Which will go up against the 4060Ti, looking at some the reviews. That has even more VRAM and performance.

$269 is not as detached from reality as the 4060 Ti pricing, but it will fall to around 200 quickly imo. Radeon cards drop below the MSRP at least, some Nvidia cards like the 3050 never did.

4060 Ti 8GB reviews looking as expected, lol.

Activision nukes another Call of Duty fan project from orbit: 'Thank you all for your support over the years'
https://www.pcgamer.com/activision-nukes-another-call-of-duty-fan-project-from-orbit-thank-you-all-for-your-support-over-the-years/
It's a bad time to be a Call of Duty modder as Activision has cracked down on its second PC fan project in as many weeks. Following last week's shuttering of SM², the team behind popular CoD modded client X Labs has also closed its doors after receiving a cease and desist demand from Activision.
"We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations permanently. Thank you all for your support over the years," the X Labs Twitter account tweeted today.
Unlike SM², which was an unreleased project that aimed to make a "dream Call of Duty" by combining elements of many games, X Labs had already been around for years running dedicated servers for modded versions of fan-favorite Call of Dutys that Activision has long moved on from: Modern Warfare 2 (2009), Advanced Warfare, and Black Ops 3.
