Kinda disappointed that a 9900k after that amount of time is still so close to an 8700k with fewer cores and lower clock. But I guess that was to be expected. Still a proper upgrade to my 6850k that should last for a few years.

I disagree. Your Broadwell-E chip is no slouch. I would hang onto it for a few more years and hopefully you get something more tangible than just a couple of extra CPU cores.

I mean... Your 6850K is close enough to the 8700K... Worth upgrading to the 9900K? Probably not yet in my opinion.

I need single core performance and a lousy 3.8GHz boost won't get me there. I've been struggling with Rocket league at 144fps for quite some time and I've been waiting for the first good mainstream 8 core. I think I've waited long enough.

It's good timing and a good pairing to a 2080ti that I'll also gonna get at some point.

At this point in time, if AMD can still remain substantially cheaper at 7nm 8 core, it should be enough to hold off Intel at 10nm 8 core, even if those Intel chips still perform slightly better. As long as AMD doesn't drag 8 core out too long, and keep at least a year ahead of Intel with upping the core count, they should be ok.

AMD still has an IPC and clockspeed deficit with Intel.
It's just at a point where it's inconsequential to most users.

I want to see 12 cores at a minimum within the next couple of years. 8 Cores is great... But has been accessible to us peasants for years.

Inconsequential enough not to mention, and potentially even more inconsequential if the IPC rumors are true for their upcoming 7nm CPU's. Depending on how well the progress at 5nm (or 3nm) goes, AMD could be stuck at 7nm for a while, so jumping straight to 12 cores seems like something I think they will wait a year or two to do for business and marketing purposes, after they've made more substantial IPC advancements. I  get your point about 8 cores becoming the norm for top tier, so 12 cores or more should become the new top dog sooner than much later.

I wonder what's going to happen when Intel introduces their GPU's around 2020? 14nm GPU's?

By 2020 Intel should have more manufacturing spun up. Or they might produce them at TSMC/Samsung.

Makes sense. They basically make all the GPU's already, so it wouldn't be a dumb idea if Intel hasn't had time to scale up with 10nm by then.

I always have the upgrade bug. It strikes as soon as my new hardware is installed. Would've upgraded a year ago if Intel got their shit together. My need for an upgrade was only exacerbated by the terrible X99 chipset that brought me many problems, specifically with USB.

It was a good experience though. By using an AMD GPU I learned never to use an AMD GPU ever again and by going for a server chipset I learned to never do that either. Who knows what I'll learn from getting this one.

Tekken 7 has sold over 3 million copies worldwide on all platforms
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/tekken-7-has-sold-over-3-million-copies-worldwide-on-all-platforms/
Katsuhiro Harada has announced that Tekken 7 has sold over 3 million copies worldwide on all platforms, and that the Tekken franchise has sold 47 million copies in total. According to Harada, this was achieved prior to the release of the game’s second year, which explains why Anna and Lei were not included in the following image.
>>Congrats to the Tekken team. Kerotan made a thread about this milestone during the weekend.

Discord's TOS update forbids lawsuits against it, but you can opt out
https://www.pcgamer.com/discords-tos-update-forbids-lawsuits-against-it-but-you-can-opt-out/
Discord recently launched its own digital storefront with a curated selection of games, access to a whole bunch more through its Nitro subscription plan, and a DRM system that didn't get off to the best possible start. It also made some changes to its terms of service that you might want to take note of, because it now contains a "binding arbitration provision and class action waiver" that prohibits users from filing lawsuits against it.

MODS/EMULATORS

GUN, Bodycount and more running on the Xbox 360 emulator, Xenia, in DirectX 12
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/gun-bodycount-and-more-running-on-the-xbox-360-emulator-xenia-in-directx-12/
YouTube’s ‘John GodGames Emus’ and ‘Emulators for PC’ have shared some new videos, showing GUN, Bodycount, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Wanted: Weapons of Fate and more running on the latest version of the best Xbox 360 emulator, Xenia.
Both YouTubers used the latest version of the DirectX 12 renderer, and as we can see this emulator – similarly to RPCS 3 – is progressing at a steady pace.

Killzone 3, Uncharted 3, Red Dead Redemption and Resistance 3 running on the latest version of RPCS3
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/killzone-3-uncharted-3-red-dead-redemption-and-resistance-3-running-on-the-latest-version-of-rpcs3/
The team behind RPCS3 is doing an incredible work and below you can find some videos showing Killzone 3, Uncharted 3, Red Dead Redemption and Resistance 3 running on the latest version of this Playstation 3 emulator.
Now as you will immediately notice, Killzone 3, Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3 are nowhere close to a playable state. Still, the fact that the emulator can actually run these games (as they now can go in-game) is incredible in our opinion.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 mod allows split screen 1V1 battles
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/star-wars-battlefront-2-mod-allows-split-screen-1v1/
Back in September, modder ‘andy6170’ released a mod for Star Wars Battlefront 2 that allowed split screen for Versus. And today, the modder released a new version that allows 1V1 battles by removing all the AI enemies.
According to the modder, this new version will allow you to replicate Heroes vs Villains without any AI enemies getting in your way. And to be honest we are pretty sure that some gamers will find this mod interesting as it will remind them all those old-school days of split screen deathmatches.

Modder ‘jim1240’ has released a new version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Oblivion Lost Remake 2.5. In case you weren’t aware of, STALKER Oblivion Lost is build 1935 of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl; a version of the game that was cancelled by GSC GameWorld when it rebooted the project.
In other words, we are not talking about a mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl but an older version of the game that was made available to the public by GSC GameWorld itself. Since its initial release, modders have been working on adding new features, improving stability and re-balancing it.
Compared to Fixx17, the new version of the mod features new graphical effects like SSAO, motion blur, depth of field, soft water, soft particles, rainbows, sunrays, dust and new shaders, new sound effects and comes with lots of bug fixes.
Going into slightly more details, Fixx19 adds a new stalker group dolgovtsev at Bar and a new dialog searching for Kalash at Cordon (Escape), fixes a critical bug at Elbe-radar and comes with a number of balance tweaks.
>>You can download it from ModDB, but be warned that you'll need the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. OLR 2.5 fixx17 for it to work, available in two parts: part1 and part2.

GTA 5's best visual overhaul mod is back for its final stunning update
https://www.pcgamer.com/gta-5s-best-visual-overhaul-mod-is-back-for-its-final-stunning-update/
I'm a sucker for Grand Theft Auto 5 visual overhaul mods, and none have captured my heart more than Jamal Rashid's Natural Vision Remastered. The result of several thousand hours of work, each update hits new levels of realism—and its latest, due to launch on Wednesday, is quite remarkable.
"My main focus in the newest NaturalVision Remastered update was to overhaul the Cloudy weather," Rashid, aka Razed, tells me via email. "I knew that editing this particular weather would be a massive undertaking which is why I left it alone until the very end. I took it upon myself to rework each hour of the day and balance it across the timecycle."

According to the release notes, this hotfix addresses the crashes when using the NVIDIA GeForce RTX2080 or RTX2080Ti GPUs with specific driver and OS versions. These instant crashes really frustrated us and were present only when DX12 was enabled, so it’s at least great that Nixxes has addressed them so soon.

EA recorded a rocket-powered death-sled for Battlefield 5's V1 engine sound
https://www.pcgamer.com/ea-recorded-a-rocket-powered-death-sled-for-battlefield-5s-v1-engine-noise/
A new Battlefield 5 "Dev Talks" video features UX designer Nathalie Ek, senior audio director Bence Pajor, and lead sound designer Andreas Almstrom discussing the game's audio: How the developers went about capturing ambient sounds, explosions, gunfire, and all that sort of thing. It's fairly dull stuff—mainly an excuse for the developers to shoot some cool guns—but then it gets to the part where they explain how they captured the audio for the V1 missile.

Skybound Games aims to finish The Walking Dead entirely with former Telltale staff
https://www.pcgamer.com/skybound-games-aims-to-finish-the-walking-dead-entirely-with-former-telltale-staff/
Skybound Games revealed a couple of weeks ago that it would finish work on The Walking Dead: The Final Season, which had been left in limbo following the collapse of Telltale Games. It also committed to working with members of the Telltale development team on the project, a small bit of good news for at least some of its former employees.

Battle Brothers is getting some scary-ass monsters in its first DLC
https://www.pcgamer.com/battle-brothers-beasts-and-exploration/
Battle Brothers was one of the surprises of 2017. The turn-based strategy game puts you in control of a mercenary party within a bottomless, procedurally-generated fantasy campaign.
Overhype Studios is adding to its gritty medieval RPG in the first paid update to Battle Brothers, "Beasts & Exploration," a $10 DLC coming November 29. Today Overhype revealed that release date as it published the Steam page for the DLC, which it's been blogging about on battlebrothersgame.com since it was announced in August.

50 percent of all wars in EVE Online are started by just 5 groups
https://www.pcgamer.com/50-percent-of-all-wars-in-eve-online-are-caused-by-just-5-groups-and-its-a-huge-problem/
Conflict is the lifeblood of EVE Online, but how players initiate a war is a serious problem. Right now, 50 percent of all wars in EVE Online are instigated by just five corporations (EVE's version of guilds) who are exploiting the system to sow pain and chaos across the virtual galaxy of New Eden. It's become such a problem that, during the annual fan gathering at Las Vegas, CCP Games announced a series of changes to how war is declared and fought in EVE.

Wargroove pushed back to early 2019

Chucklefish's turn-based strategy game Wargroove—described by Samuel as a "fiercely competitive Advance Wars successor" after his hands-on last year—will no longer be out this year as planned, and will instead be released in early 2019, the developer has announced.

After five and a half years of development, Ludeon Studios has released the 1.0 version of its colony management game Rimworld.
You can watch a trailer for it above—the latest version is "mostly the same" as beta version 19, save for lots of bug fixes and a food restriction system that lets you manage what your colonists and prisoners can eat.

Artifact's beta appears to have been delayed until November 19
https://www.pcgamer.com/artifacts-open-beta-appears-to-have-been-delayed-until-november-19-just-nine-days-before-full-release/
Valve was due to launch a semi-public beta for its Dota-themed card game Artifact later this month, but it now appears fans will have to wait until November 19—just nine days before the November 28 full release date—for their first look.

Spellbreak is a battle royale with elemental magic and huge explosions
https://www.pcgamer.com/spellbreak-is-a-battle-royale-with-elemental-magic-and-huge-explosions/
Spellbreak is an upcoming battle royale game—but before you dismiss it as just another cash-in on the genre, check out the trailer above. From the footage, I'd say it has potential: I like the pretty, fantasy art style, and characters fling elemental magic spells that interact with one another, creating giant fireball explosions, which I'm on board with.

Dreadnought developer lays off third of workforce days after game's release
https://www.pcgamer.com/dreadnought-developer-lays-off-third-of-workforce-days-after-games-release/
The developer of recently-released multiplayer spaceship shooter Dreadnought has laid off a third of its staff just days after the game's release.
The layoffs at Six Foot were first revealed by Game Informer, which reported that employees had long been aware of financial issues at the developer. Earlier this summer, studio chief executive Matt Ballesteros held a team meeting informing staff that the company only had enough money to continue for a few months, and that employees were free to leave without judgement, according to the report.

World War 3's Early Access launch marred by technical difficulties
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-war-3s-early-access-launch-marred-by-technical-difficulties/
The Early Access launch of modern multiplayer shooter World War 3 has been marred by technical problems, with many players unable to connect to game servers, leaving them staring at a loading screen.
Developer The Farm 51 nearly postponed the Early Access launch at the last minute on Friday because of "technical difficulties". It managed to get the game out in time, but it soon became clear that the issues had not been resolved: players were not able to connect to matches and sometimes, if they were, the game booted them out straightaway.

NieR Automata’s 2B comes to Monster Hunter World thanks to this mod
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/nier-automatas-2b-comes-to-monster-hunter-world-thanks-to-this-mod/
Modder ‘Uhllica’ has released a mod for Monster Hunter World that replaces the main character with 2B from NieR Automata. This mod makes the in-game character model look like 2B, and brings her skirt, mask, leggings and weapons from PlatinumGames’ action title to it.
Uhllica has released version 3.3 for this mod, however there are plans for some major adjustments. The modder aims to remodel tops and adjust the body size, add Feathers on elbow, retexture skirts and add a white decoration line, retexture the normal maps for wrinkle, retexture the Diffuse map with BC7 for transparency of stockings and more.

Lucas Arts’ classic Outlaws is being recreated in Call of Juarez Bound in Blood, first gameplay footage
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/lucas-arts-classic-outlaws-is-being-recreated-in-call-of-juarez-bound-in-blood-first-gameplay-footage/
Now here is something really cool that may never see the light of day. KlStudio is currently working on a fan remake of the classic Lucas Arts’ western first-person shooter, Outlaws, in the Chrome Engine 4. This fan remake will be a mod for Call of Juarez Bound in Blood and the team has released its first gameplay footage.
The reason I’m saying that this may never come out is because LucasFilms has already shut down another fan remake for one of its IPs, Apeiron. As such, we are not certain whether this Outlaws Remake will meet the same fate with Apeiron.
The good news here is that this fan remake appears to be using assets from Call of Juarez Bound in Blood, meaning that the team will most likely simply remake the levels. In other words, we are basically looking at custom levels based on Outlaws without using its assets, so I think we can say that this mod is safe… at least for now.

https://www.dsogaming.com/news/massive-fallout-new-vegas-fan-prequel-fallout-new-california-is-now-available-for-download/
Fallout fans, here is something special for you today. Radian-Helix Media has just released its massive fan prequel to Fallout New Vegas, Fallout New California. This mod adds an all new story around a new player character, an adopted resident of Vault 18, embarking on a journey through the wastelands of the New California Republic’s Cajon Pass.
This mod is described as a new campaign, meaning that players will be able to launch it from the main menu and not access it via an in-game portal. New California runs in the New Vegas engine but it is not set in New Vegas (it’s set in New California at a place called The Pass).
Fallout: New California features a huge world (around 2/3rd the size of Fallout: New Vegas’ map), offers from 6-8 hours to 15-30 hours of new gameplay, and packs 13 endings that – according to the developers – are radically different stories start to finish. The game also features 16942 lines of dialogue (14877 of which are voiced by characters and non-repeating from 60 volunteer voice actors), new textures and meshes, and 48 main quests.

Fallout 76's Hunter/Hunted mode works a lot like battle royale
https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76s-hunterhunted-mode-works-a-lot-like-battle-royale/
Bethesda released a Fallout 76 multiplayer guide today, much of which we've already got covered in our own Fallout 76 PvP guide. However, some new details on the intriguing Hunter/Hunted PvP mode were revealed, and would you believe it? It sounds like it has a lot in common with battle royale, including a shrinking circle and a last-man standing system.

Bethesda warns Fallout 76 fans to expect 'spectacular' bugs and issues
https://www.pcgamer.com/bethesda-warns-fallout-76-fans-to-expect-spectacular-bugs-and-issues/
In a warm note to fans posted on Twitter today, Bethesda described the decision to create an online-only version of Fallout 'very scary' and admitted having the same questions a lot of Fallout fans still do: "What exactly is this?" The note also states that Fallout 76 isn't a finished game but 'a starting line', and also warns that, yeah, there's gonna be 'unforseen bugs' and potentially 'spectacular issues' ahead for players.
>>Oh, my... If Bethesda themselves are worried about the bugs, they must be truly spectacular.

>>Actually, that's today...

Mosh Pit Simulator is a weird VR physics sandbox starring boneless humanoids
https://www.pcgamer.com/mosh-pit-simulator-is-a-weird-vr-physics-sandbox-starring-boneless-humanoids/
Mosh Pit Simulator is a VR sandbox game with boneless humanoids and weird physics. But most importantly: it'll probably end up becoming a meme generator. Set in "1 square km of interactive city" filled with these so-called boneless humanoids, there doesn't appear to be much of a goal in Mosh Pit Simulator, other than to torment the boneless humanoids.

Sky Tracers is a multiplayer successor to parkour platformer Super Cloudbuilt
https://www.pcgamer.com/sky-tracers-is-a-multiplayer-successor-to-parkour-platformer-super-cloudbuilt/
Though it only released last year, Super Cloudbuilt is getting a sequel of sorts in the form of Sky Tracers. Like its predecessor, Sky Tracers is a high speed, third-person parkour runner with a pleasantly colourful aesthetic. Unlike Super Cloudbuilt, it'll boast multiplayer support. Indeed, early signs suggest that online competition is the primary focus.

Play Battlefield 5 during its first week and get two free in-game items
https://www.pcgamer.com/play-battlefield-5-during-its-first-week-and-get-two-free-in-game-items/
In August, Battlefield 5's release date was delayed to November 20. As a means of compensating players for their patience, DICE will give players two free in-game items—so long as they sign-in during its first week of release.
Announced via Twitter, the developer's general manager Oscar Gabrielson says early adopters will receive the Oscar Mike Helmet and Oscar Mike Emblem. A coinciding press release says the names of the items derive from "military radio jargon used on the front lines." Logging on during week one will see the items appear as shipments in the Armory.

Dragon Age-ish RPG The Waylanders has hit Kickstarter
https://www.pcgamer.com/dragon-age-ish-rpg-the-waylanders-has-hit-kickstarter/
Back in August, I wrote about The Waylanders, a time travel RPG that clearly has its roots in older RPGs. Last week the game landed on Kickstarter, and it's generating substantial interest. It's almost exactly a third of the way towards its goal of $150,000 at the time of writing, gathering $47,320 in pledges.

GTA Online's free money bonus rolls over, Smuggler's Run gets twin perks
https://www.pcgamer.com/gta-onlines-dollar1-million-free-money-bonus-rolls-over-smugglers-run-gets-twin-perks/
With Red Dead Redemption 2 due (on consoles) this Friday, GTA Online offers its players one last chance to earn double money on its western-themed bonus weapons.
If you're yet to complete the Double-Action Revolver and Stone Hatchet kill challenges, this means you're in for $1 million—$250K per challenge, plus an additional $250K a-piece "when you log in [next] week". If you've already obtained both, you still qualify for the latter payout at $500K all told.

Shadowhand dev unveils turn-based card battler Ancient Enemy
https://www.pcgamer.com/shadowhand-dev-unveils-turn-based-card-battler-ancient-enemy/
Ancient Enemy is the next project from Grey Alien Games, the studio responsible for Regency Solitaire and last year's Shadowhand. The "unusual, strategic RPG card game" marks a collaboration between Grey Alien and Big Robot's Jim Rossignol, includes artwork from illustrator Jen Pattison, and is supported by Thomas Was Alone developer Bithell Games. Which is quite a line up.
