Monday news, part two:

EA recorded a rocket-powered death-sled for Battlefield 5's V1 engine sound
https://www.pcgamer.com/ea-recorded-a-rocket-powered-death-sled-for-battlefield-5s-v1-engine-noise/
A new Battlefield 5 "Dev Talks" video features UX designer Nathalie Ek, senior audio director Bence Pajor, and lead sound designer Andreas Almstrom discussing the game's audio: How the developers went about capturing ambient sounds, explosions, gunfire, and all that sort of thing. It's fairly dull stuff—mainly an excuse for the developers to shoot some cool guns—but then it gets to the part where they explain how they captured the audio for the V1 missile.

Skybound Games aims to finish The Walking Dead entirely with former Telltale staff
https://www.pcgamer.com/skybound-games-aims-to-finish-the-walking-dead-entirely-with-former-telltale-staff/
Skybound Games revealed a couple of weeks ago that it would finish work on The Walking Dead: The Final Season, which had been left in limbo following the collapse of Telltale Games. It also committed to working with members of the Telltale development team on the project, a small bit of good news for at least some of its former employees.

Battle Brothers is getting some scary-ass monsters in its first DLC
https://www.pcgamer.com/battle-brothers-beasts-and-exploration/
Battle Brothers was one of the surprises of 2017. The turn-based strategy game puts you in control of a mercenary party within a bottomless, procedurally-generated fantasy campaign.
Overhype Studios is adding to its gritty medieval RPG in the first paid update to Battle Brothers, "Beasts & Exploration," a $10 DLC coming November 29. Today Overhype revealed that release date as it published the Steam page for the DLC, which it's been blogging about on battlebrothersgame.com since it was announced in August.

50 percent of all wars in EVE Online are started by just 5 groups
https://www.pcgamer.com/50-percent-of-all-wars-in-eve-online-are-caused-by-just-5-groups-and-its-a-huge-problem/
Conflict is the lifeblood of EVE Online, but how players initiate a war is a serious problem. Right now, 50 percent of all wars in EVE Online are instigated by just five corporations (EVE's version of guilds) who are exploiting the system to sow pain and chaos across the virtual galaxy of New Eden. It's become such a problem that, during the annual fan gathering at Las Vegas, CCP Games announced a series of changes to how war is declared and fought in EVE.

Wargroove pushed back to early 2019
https://www.pcgamer.com/wargroove-pushed-back-to-early-2019/
Chucklefish's turn-based strategy game Wargroove—described by Samuel as a "fiercely competitive Advance Wars successor" after his hands-on last year—will no longer be out this year as planned, and will instead be released in early 2019, the developer has announced.

After five and a half years of development, Rimworld 1.0 is now live
https://www.pcgamer.com/after-five-and-a-half-years-of-development-rimworld-10-is-now-live/
After five and a half years of development, Ludeon Studios has released the 1.0 version of its colony management game Rimworld.
You can watch a trailer for it above—the latest version is "mostly the same" as beta version 19, save for lots of bug fixes and a food restriction system that lets you manage what your colonists and prisoners can eat.

Artifact's beta appears to have been delayed until November 19
https://www.pcgamer.com/artifacts-open-beta-appears-to-have-been-delayed-until-november-19-just-nine-days-before-full-release/
Valve was due to launch a semi-public beta for its Dota-themed card game Artifact later this month, but it now appears fans will have to wait until November 19—just nine days before the November 28 full release date—for their first look.

Spellbreak is a battle royale with elemental magic and huge explosions
https://www.pcgamer.com/spellbreak-is-a-battle-royale-with-elemental-magic-and-huge-explosions/
Spellbreak is an upcoming battle royale game—but before you dismiss it as just another cash-in on the genre, check out the trailer above. From the footage, I'd say it has potential: I like the pretty, fantasy art style, and characters fling elemental magic spells that interact with one another, creating giant fireball explosions, which I'm on board with.

Dreadnought developer lays off third of workforce days after game's release
https://www.pcgamer.com/dreadnought-developer-lays-off-third-of-workforce-days-after-games-release/
The developer of recently-released multiplayer spaceship shooter Dreadnought has laid off a third of its staff just days after the game's release.
The layoffs at Six Foot were first revealed by Game Informer, which reported that employees had long been aware of financial issues at the developer. Earlier this summer, studio chief executive Matt Ballesteros held a team meeting informing staff that the company only had enough money to continue for a few months, and that employees were free to leave without judgement, according to the report.

Mech strategy game Battletech's first expansion, Flashpoints, will be out on November 27, and it'll be followed by another expansion next summer and a third that does not yet have a release window, publisher Paradox has announced.

World War 3's Early Access launch marred by technical difficulties
https://www.pcgamer.com/world-war-3s-early-access-launch-marred-by-technical-difficulties/
The Early Access launch of modern multiplayer shooter World War 3 has been marred by technical problems, with many players unable to connect to game servers, leaving them staring at a loading screen.
Developer The Farm 51 nearly postponed the Early Access launch at the last minute on Friday because of "technical difficulties". It managed to get the game out in time, but it soon became clear that the issues had not been resolved: players were not able to connect to matches and sometimes, if they were, the game booted them out straightaway.

The Enclave are one of Fallout 76's factions, Bethesda confirms
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-enclave-are-one-of-fallout-76s-factions-bethesda-confirms/
Perennial Fallout baddies The Enclave—who featured heavily in both Fallout 2 and 3—will return as one of the factions in Fallout 76, Bethesda has confirmed.
The developer tweeted the below image, giving some backstory for the faction and revealing that they have a "secret bunker" hidden somewhere in Appalachia, where the game is set.

Tropico 5, Opus Magnum and six others coming to Origin Access this month
https://www.pcgamer.com/tropico-5-opus-magnum-and-six-others-coming-to-origin-access-this-month/
EA has announced the games coming to its Origin Access subscription service this month—the two standouts are wacky city builder Tropico 5 and head-scratching puzzle game Opus Magnum.

Metal Gear Survive adds Silent Hill 2's Pyramid Head in limited-time event
https://www.pcgamer.com/metal-gear-survive-adds-silent-hill-2s-pyramid-head-in-limited-time-event/
Ahead of Halloween, The Researcher's Story is a special event that's set to run from tomorrow through November 6. Successful completion offers players Battle Points by way of "digging the base camp, and unlocking items and gears." Within this haul comes a Survive-styled take on James Sutherland's nemesis.

Devil May Cry 5 Ultra Limited Edition comes with Dante's coat, costs $8000
https://www.pcgamer.com/devil-may-cry-5-ultra-limited-edition-comes-with-dantes-coat-costs-dollar8000/
As reported by Eurogamer, the action fighter's Ultra Limited Edition costs an eye-watering 900,000 Japanese Yen—which translates to around $8000/£6100. For that, expect the game itself and a replica of Dante's leather duster.
>>If that's too much for you, there are another two editions with Nero's jacket and V's coat, but they aren't cheap either.

Epic trails Fortnite Halloween event with cryptic rhymes
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-halloween-event-trailed-in-cryptic-tweets/
It's late October, which means a slew of Halloween events are on their way to your favourite games, and Fortnite is no exception. Epic has already added some spooky skins—including the pumpkin-headed Jack Gourdon (above)—and recreated trick-or-treating by lettings players ring doorbells. On Friday, it began teasing its official Halloween event, Fortnitemares, with an image of what looks like a new skin, a cube in chains, and some cryptic rhymes that could be hinting at an event-specific game mode.
>>And there's something going on on Fortnite with the floating island.

Fortnite Save the World will not go free-to-play in 2018
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-save-the-world-will-not-go-free-to-play-in-2018/
In April, Luke Winkie wrote about how Fortnite PvE fans feel about Battle Royale taking over the game they love. It's true: Save the World is often overshadowed by its BR counterpart—something which might subside somewhat when the former also goes free-to-play. Epic has announced this however won't happen this year.

Atomic Heart, the offbeat Soviet-era shooter, gives us its weirdest teaser video yet
https://www.pcgamer.com/atomic-heart-the-offbeat-soviet-era-shooter-gives-us-its-weirdest-teaser-video-yet/
In today's showing of Weird But Cool Atomic Heart footage, a character appears trapped in a tunnel of molecular mass. Even from the little we've seen so far, I'm certain that won't be the strangest sentence ever written about Munfish's upcoming alternate Soviet-era shooter.
