Guys, it looks like Nvidia will unveil their new cards on August 20, a day before GamesCom

NVIDIA announces ‘GeForce Gaming Celebration’ on August 20

NVIDIA has just announced ‘GeForce Gaming Celebration which will take place on August 20th. NVIDIA promises ‘latest GeForce hardware’ and ‘spectacular surprises’.

The event takes place a day before GamesCom, this is when and where invited media will receive their review samples (so I’ve heard).

Looking forward to it. I wonder if this spectacular surprise is something about gaming. Like partnering up with some developer to create a game that shows off all of the latest features like HDR and Raytracing.

To do that, and also use Nvidia's new ATAA antialiasing tech, they need that Msoft launches first its Ray Tracing API, so I doubt that wiull happen.

But, does Nvidia really need a partnership for that? There will always be some studio willing to push things forward and use the latest tech.

My GTX 1070 is still fast enough for all games... and will probably be fast enough until the first multi-platform games PC/PS5/Xbox Scarlett arrive.

So I'll probably skip the 11x0 cards and wait for the 7nm-GPUs.

£100 more than the 1080ti?, not really all that great a deal tbh.

Well, if you take into account that Nvidia would like to get rid of all the remaining 1080Ti cards, that the 1180 will be faster, that the first units will probably be Founder's Edition cards, the newer 12nm process and GDDR6 memory and that it won't have any kind of competence from AMD, then yes, it wouldn't surprise me if they're more expensive than a 1080Ti.

They'll be able to reduce the price later, if they want to.

If is the point to focus on here

I plan to keep my 1070 for as long as I can.

I don't have anyhting against those that upgrade every year, but unless the actual hardware is limiting your gaming experience, I really don't see the need to upgrade.

I read a rumor a while ago that I hope it's totally false, because it said that Nvidia wanted to keep both series of cards on sale, with the new one taking a step above the 10x0 series. And even the 1160 would have a high price.

I don't believe it, of course (that's why I didn't post it here), but that doesn't mean that Nvidia can try to do it while stock for current cards last.

My GTX 580 was the graphic card I used the longest: 36 months. I skipped the whole Kepler microarchitecture (600 and 700 series) and finally upgraded from GTX 580 to 970.

So far it looks that I'll use the 1070 even longer if nothing unexpected happens (or I'm in a buying mood when a good deal appears).

Extending the warranty to five years for 20 bucks wasn't my worst decision... even if I upgrade before that, the 1070 will run well in my brother's PC the rest of the warranty and beyond.

The card I abused the most was my previous one. That HD 5850 lasted from 2010 to 2016, until its fan gave up. What an amazing card.

I hope I'll be able to rid my 1070 almost that much, but it will depend on when the next consoles will launch and how big of a jump they'll bring to the table. But even then, I'd still beable to use this one a bit more as I don't buy games at launch.

Considering how Nvidia hardly has any competition these days, it wouldn't surprise me if they just went up and up in price, even for their new low end cards. The market seems to reward them and AMD doesn't have the money or brains to absolutely smash them head on.

I don't think that Nvidia gets rewarded, it's jus tthat they have more powerful products than the competition, and people like to buy powerful toys.

And yeah, that's because of their lack of proper competition in the last years.

"Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR is now available, free to all owners of the base game"

Huh, and actual reason to play the game now.
I'll get around to it if I ever decide to jump back into VR.

I had a 560 TI right up until last March (Or May).  1080 vanilla was on sale for like 650 cad.  It was too good a price to pass up.  The 1080 will probably last me till ps6.  Might build a new machine then (Rocking a 2700 vanilla i7).
