Flash Sales are returning to Steam, according to a report
https://www.pcgamer.com/flash-sales-are-returning-to-steam-according-to-a-report/
Steam sales used to be very different. In addition to a standard price cut throughout any given sale, some games would have temporary mega-discounts called Flash Sales. For example, a game might be 50% off for a whole two weeks, but 80% off for a 12-hour chunk of that. Valve did away with them in 2016, but a new report suggests they'll make a return soon in a slightly altered format.
Rather than a Flash Sale lasting a fixed amount of time, developers will be able to choose whether it lasts 6, 8, 10 or 12 hours, according to popular YouTube channel Valve News Network. The report cites information from the Valve-backed Steam Translation Server, which volunteers use to translate Steam text into other languages.

The Witcher 3 E3 HD Birds Reworked Project significantly overhauls the quality of flying birds
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-witcher-3-e3-hd-birds-reworked-project-significantly-overhauls-the-quality-of-flying-birds/
Modder ‘Feregorn’ has released a pretty interesting mod for The Witcher 3. As its title suggests, The Witcher 3 E3 HD Birds Reworked Project dramatically improves the visual quality of flying birds to approach what was originally expected from the E3 demo.
As the modder claimed, this mod doesn’t cover all in-game birds as that isn’t necessary. After all, the owl, shallow, etc all have good quality models. However, the sparrows, pigeons and seagulls and crows have some really low-quality models. These models were drastically downgraded and reduced in visual quality because they spawn in swarms during gameplay and they were too taxing.

>>This mod is also available from Nexus Mods.

GTA Online's latest Red Dead Redemption 2 trial nets players $250k of in-game cash
https://www.pcgamer.com/gta-onlines-latest-red-dead-redemption-2-trial-nets-players-dollar250k-of-in-game-cash/
Earlier this week, GTA Online dataminers uncovered a second Red Dead Redemption 2-themed weapon. Now, Rockstar has made it official: the Stone Hatchet is the crime sim's latest RDR2-themed challenge.
Handed down by Blaine County's Maude Eccles via text, players are tasked with tracking down a number of bounties across San Andreas—collect 'em dead or alive—before unlocking the Stone Hatchet itself. Completing a series of kill streak-like executions from there nets you a nice wee $250K bonus.

Doom Eternal gameplay reveal coming next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/doom-eternal-gameplay-reveal-coming-next-week/
On one hand, it's a little silly to be critical of the lack of detail in id Software's Doom Eternal announcement back in June at E3. It's Doom, right? It not like it requires an in-depth explanation: As Hugo Martin said in 2016, "Everybody knows. We know, they know, everybody knows."
So we're pretty well set on the big-picture concept, but next week we'll get down into the specifics by way of a gameplay reveal livestream due to take place at 9 am PT/12 pm ET on Twitch.

Riot Games says it's working on more than just League of Legends, possibly including an MMO
https://www.pcgamer.com/riot-games-says-its-working-on-more-than-just-league-of-legends-possibly-including-an-mmo/
Riot Games is kind of an ironically-named developer, because for all practical purposes it only makes one, the decade-old League of Legends. But co-founder Marc Merrill told Variety that the studio is looking to branch out into other things, although it's still trying to figure out exactly what.

https://www.pcgamer.com/riot-games-to-add-experimental-modes-to-league-of-legends-starting-with-the-quick-fire-nexus-blitz/
Riot Games has rolled out its first "experimental mode" to League of Legends: the fast-paced Nexus Blitz.
The developer said it plans to add "a couple" of experimental modes every year—they'll arrive as "unpolished prototypes", complete with borrowed art, and players will test them out and provide feedback, which will immediately start to shape changes. The aim is to find some new permanent modes for the MOBA.

Alter Army, the game made by two 16-year-olds, has a new trailer and release date
https://www.pcgamer.com/alter-army-the-game-made-by-two-16-year-olds-has-a-new-trailer-and-release-date/
In November of last year we posted about Alter Army, a zippy-looking platform-brawler with a neat art style being made by two teenagers. Since then a couple of things have changed. One is that its creators, Mridul Pancholi and Mridul Bansal of Indian studio Vague Pixels, have turned 16. The other is that their game is finally ready for launch.

Slow-burning sci-fi adventure HEVN gets September release date

Joe enjoyed the two-hour demo he played of HEVN, a slow-paced sci-fi game about exploring the faraway planet of Naic, comparing it to both Soma and Event[0]. That was more than a year ago, just before its release was delayed indefinitely. Developer Miga has spent the past 12 months fiddling with "the game's mechanics, story, balancing and pacing, as well as the overall look and feel", and has now slapped a new release date on it: September 7.

The Walking Dead's Story Builder lets you re-make all your tough decisions before Final Season

Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season is out in just 10 days, and should pull together all those harrowing decisions you've made over the previous three seasons. But what if you're not happy with some of your choices, or want to see what the world would be like if you'd acted differently? What if you've lost your previous saves, and therefore your decisions won't carry over? Fear not, because a new tool called the Story Builder gives you a do-over—and you'll be able to import your new timeline into The Final Season when it's out. Neat.

Fortnite has had its fair share of bizarre bugs since it launched last September, and the latest is linked to guided missiles, which were reinstated this week after a heavy nerf from Epic. Players have discovered that a missile's turning speed is directly linked to their framerate: the more frames you're getting, the faster the missile will turn.

Star Citizen is no stranger to "pay-to-win" accusations, but the criticism intensified this week following developer Cloud Imperium Games' decision to remove the cap on in-game currency that players can accumulate. Previously, you could only hoard 150,000 United Earth Credits (UEC), but now players can stockpile as much as they want, albeit they are still limited to purchasing a maximum of 25,000 UEC a day.

Good review scores 'count as much as a game that sells millions' says Capcom
https://www.pcgamer.com/good-review-scores-count-as-much-as-a-game-that-sells-millions-says-capcom/
Capcom plans to "explore" more remakes following Resident Evil 2, we learned last week—assuming the reimagining sells well. I suspect it will, but the developer says a high-scoring game is as important as a high-selling one.
"While we have shareholders to appease, it's not just about commercial performance," Capcom Europe COO Stuart Turner tells gamesindustry.biz. "There is an artistic element that always comes in where we know this is the right way. And while if we compare RE7 to RE6 the absolute numbers are not the same, in terms of the profitability... it's completely fine. It ticked all of our boxes internally. It was really well received.

Ubisoft explains the RPG mechanics in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/ubisoft-explains-the-rpg-mechanics-in-assassins-creed-odyssey/
Ubisoft has released a new behind the scenes video for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in which it explains the game’s RPG mechanics. In this first episode of the new ‘behind the scenes’ video series, Ubisoft’s developers discuss how the player’s choices make big changes that determine how your Odyssey is written. Naturally, this video also packs some new gameplay footage from the game.

I have to be honest here, it's hilarious to me what passes as RPG these days, but hey - there's not one genre that didn't got terribly diluted when it hit that mass market AAA appeal.
That said, I didn't like any AC after the first one (played II, half of Black Flag and maybe one third of Origins), I kinda doubt this one will be much better, though it seems that Odyssey  improves thing or two on Origins.

Some publishers seem to think that giving players the option to choose from a couple of options in the game dialogs is the same as making an RPG.

NervenHölle-Team has released a new version of its total conversion mod for the first Crysis game, At the end of the Earth. What’s really cool here is that this total conversion is standalone, meaning that you don’t need to own a copy of Crysis in order to play it.
In At the end of the Earth, players assume the role of Sgt. Mitchell. Mitchell and his squad eventually reach the area with anomalous nature that was never seen before – “The end of the Earth”.
The latest version of At the end of the Earth features new tech engine from Crysis Warhead, new shaders and models, fixes some landscape issues, adds new animals, removes the DX9 renderer, and packs various optimization improvements.

No Man's Sky modders are hard at work in the wake of the game's long-awaited Next expansion. While modders like Redmas crank out revamped vehicles and creatures (among many other impressive mods), modders like cryogen4000 are adding nice little touches to the galaxy through mods like this one, which makes ringed planets more colorful.
You can get cryogen4000's Colourful Planet Rings mod on Nexus Mods. It pretty much speaks for itself: it "makes all planet rings randomly colourful." Cryogen says he'll update the mod with new color variations, and if they're anything like the current ones, they'll be pretty darn pretty.

https://www.pcgamer.com/frostpunks-free-people-and-automatons-update-lets-you-name-your-suffering-citizens/
