Monday news, part two:

GTA Online's latest Red Dead Redemption 2 trial nets players $250k of in-game cash
https://www.pcgamer.com/gta-onlines-latest-red-dead-redemption-2-trial-nets-players-dollar250k-of-in-game-cash/
Earlier this week, GTA Online dataminers uncovered a second Red Dead Redemption 2-themed weapon. Now, Rockstar has made it official: the Stone Hatchet is the crime sim's latest RDR2-themed challenge.
Handed down by Blaine County's Maude Eccles via text, players are tasked with tracking down a number of bounties across San Andreas—collect 'em dead or alive—before unlocking the Stone Hatchet itself. Completing a series of kill streak-like executions from there nets you a nice wee $250K bonus.

Doom Eternal gameplay reveal coming next week
https://www.pcgamer.com/doom-eternal-gameplay-reveal-coming-next-week/
On one hand, it's a little silly to be critical of the lack of detail in id Software's Doom Eternal announcement back in June at E3. It's Doom, right? It not like it requires an in-depth explanation: As Hugo Martin said in 2016, "Everybody knows. We know, they know, everybody knows."
So we're pretty well set on the big-picture concept, but next week we'll get down into the specifics by way of a gameplay reveal livestream due to take place at 9 am PT/12 pm ET on Twitch.

https://www.pcgamer.com/the-russian-subway-dogs-launch-trailer-features-real-dogs-talking-about-videogames/
Russian Subway Dogs, the game about dogs who ride the subway in Russia (and also steal food, hang out with cats, juggle vodka, and fight bears) is now available on Steam, and to get things off on the right paw developer Spooky Squid Games has released a launch trailer featuring real dogs doing pretend interviews about the game.

Riot Games says it's working on more than just League of Legends, possibly including an MMO
https://www.pcgamer.com/riot-games-says-its-working-on-more-than-just-league-of-legends-possibly-including-an-mmo/
Riot Games is kind of an ironically-named developer, because for all practical purposes it only makes one, the decade-old League of Legends. But co-founder Marc Merrill told Variety that the studio is looking to branch out into other things, although it's still trying to figure out exactly what.

Riot Games to add 'experimental modes' to League of Legends, starting with quick-fire Nexus Blitz
https://www.pcgamer.com/riot-games-to-add-experimental-modes-to-league-of-legends-starting-with-the-quick-fire-nexus-blitz/
Riot Games has rolled out its first "experimental mode" to League of Legends: the fast-paced Nexus Blitz.
The developer said it plans to add "a couple" of experimental modes every year—they'll arrive as "unpolished prototypes", complete with borrowed art, and players will test them out and provide feedback, which will immediately start to shape changes. The aim is to find some new permanent modes for the MOBA.

Alter Army, the game made by two 16-year-olds, has a new trailer and release date
https://www.pcgamer.com/alter-army-the-game-made-by-two-16-year-olds-has-a-new-trailer-and-release-date/
In November of last year we posted about Alter Army, a zippy-looking platform-brawler with a neat art style being made by two teenagers. Since then a couple of things have changed. One is that its creators, Mridul Pancholi and Mridul Bansal of Indian studio Vague Pixels, have turned 16. The other is that their game is finally ready for launch.

Slow-burning sci-fi adventure HEVN gets September release date
https://www.pcgamer.com/slow-burning-sci-fi-adventure-hevn-out-next-month/
Joe enjoyed the two-hour demo he played of HEVN, a slow-paced sci-fi game about exploring the faraway planet of Naic, comparing it to both Soma and Event[0]. That was more than a year ago, just before its release was delayed indefinitely. Developer Miga has spent the past 12 months fiddling with "the game's mechanics, story, balancing and pacing, as well as the overall look and feel", and has now slapped a new release date on it: September 7.

The Walking Dead's Story Builder lets you re-make all your tough decisions before Final Season
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-walking-deads-story-builder-lets-you-re-make-all-your-tough-decisions-before-final-season/
Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season is out in just 10 days, and should pull together all those harrowing decisions you've made over the previous three seasons. But what if you're not happy with some of your choices, or want to see what the world would be like if you'd acted differently? What if you've lost your previous saves, and therefore your decisions won't carry over? Fear not, because a new tool called the Story Builder gives you a do-over—and you'll be able to import your new timeline into The Final Season when it's out. Neat.

Fortnite's guided missiles turn faster at higher framerates, apparently
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnites-guided-missiles-turn-faster-at-higher-framerates-apparently/
Fortnite has had its fair share of bizarre bugs since it launched last September, and the latest is linked to guided missiles, which were reinstated this week after a heavy nerf from Epic. Players have discovered that a missile's turning speed is directly linked to their framerate: the more frames you're getting, the faster the missile will turn.

Post-launch updates for We Happy Few detailed, including DLC
https://www.pcgamer.com/post-launch-updates-for-we-happy-few-detailed-including-dlc/
Dystopian survival game We Happy Few (the one with the eerie masks and the drugs that make people happy) will be getting a season pass, developers Compulsion Games have announced. Three things will be included in this DLC, separate stories called 'Lightbringer', 'We All Fall Down', and 'Roger & James in: They Came From Below!'

Dead Cells gets a slick animated trailer in advance of leaving Early Access
https://www.pcgamer.com/dead-cells-gets-a-slick-animated-trailer-in-advance-of-leaving-early-access/
Dead Cells made it into our list of the best metroidvania games alongside the likes of Cave Story + and Hollow Knight even though it was still in Early Access, and has only improved since then. To celebrate its impending release from the dungeon of lengthy public betas, it's got a cool new animated trailer that sums up its core loop of killing, dying, and trying again with some new gear.

Chris Roberts responds to Star Citizen 'pay-to-win' concerns after removal of in-game currency cap
https://www.pcgamer.com/chris-roberts-responds-to-star-citizen-pay-to-win-concerns-after-removal-of-in-game-currency-cap/
Star Citizen is no stranger to "pay-to-win" accusations, but the criticism intensified this week following developer Cloud Imperium Games' decision to remove the cap on in-game currency that players can accumulate. Previously, you could only hoard 150,000 United Earth Credits (UEC), but now players can stockpile as much as they want, albeit they are still limited to purchasing a maximum of 25,000 UEC a day.

Surviving Mars adds creative mode, announces 'hardcore survivalist' update
https://www.pcgamer.com/surviving-mars-adds-creative-mode-announces-hardcore-survivalist-update/
Surviving Mars developer Haemimont Games "made a straight honest to god mistake" by overlooking tutorials, company CEO Gabriel Dobrev told us at PDXCon this year. Since then, Dobrev and his team have steadily tweaked the city-builder in tune with player feedback. It's now announced two free updates to this end: Da Vinci and Sagan.

Tekken 7 will add Negan from AMC's The Walking Dead
https://www.pcgamer.com/tekken-7-will-add-negan-from-amcs-the-walking-dead/
In the wake of this weekend's EVO 2018 grand final, Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada unveiled three of the six fighters en route to Tekken 7's second season. The following short showcases veteran King of the Iron Fist combatants Anna Williams and Lei Wulong. It then teases character art for Negan—the baseball bat-wielding bastard from AMC's The Walking Dead, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

>>Really? Anyway, Hiku has a thread about this announcement.

Good review scores 'count as much as a game that sells millions' says Capcom
https://www.pcgamer.com/good-review-scores-count-as-much-as-a-game-that-sells-millions-says-capcom/
Capcom plans to "explore" more remakes following Resident Evil 2, we learned last week—assuming the reimagining sells well. I suspect it will, but the developer says a high-scoring game is as important as a high-selling one.
"While we have shareholders to appease, it's not just about commercial performance," Capcom Europe COO Stuart Turner tells gamesindustry.biz. "There is an artistic element that always comes in where we know this is the right way. And while if we compare RE7 to RE6 the absolute numbers are not the same, in terms of the profitability... it's completely fine. It ticked all of our boxes internally. It was really well received.
