Short answer: Wii, PS3, XB360.

Long answer: Wii generated the most sales, generated the most profits, added the most new consumers, but then lost most of those new consumers, lost the most value as a company (check the NTDOY stock trends since 2008), and plateaued and dropped in sales faster than any other hardware generation winner.

The XB360 gained the most market share, probably generated the most in revenue although not in profits, added the most franchises and IPs to the XB platform relative to the original XB, and arguably placed MS in the best position heading into the 8th gen.

The PS3 lost the most market share, lost the most exclusive franchises (in all fairness, most franchises became multi-platform unless bought), generated the most losses, but still managed to produce the largest catalog of significant, new, exclusive IPs of the 7th gen and may well eventually end up selling the most units by the time the 8th gen is in full swing (yes, more than the Wii).

Here's a post I made two days ago, a reply that was basically even if Vita or Wii U or failures, I'm still going to own both because it's all about the games. This was posted two days ago and my opinion hasn't changed.

So in my opinion, the PS3 won, and just as I said in the post linked above. " I don't care if it's sold one million systems or one billion systems. It's all about the games." The PS3 is the system this gen that has the best games.

yeah, we nintendo fans are so sad to have received amazing titles on the wii. seriously do you see a nintendo fan bitching and saying ps1 and ps2 didn't win their respective generations? why is the hate so big you people can't admit nintendo won this time?

The oddest and longest generation ever. The Wii won but sales stopped abruptly almost fad like. Kinect kept Sony at bay for MS for a time. Sony had too get rid of some good features and a glossy finish(these things should of been mentioned in topic) to end up in second place.



 Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

definitely between the Wii and the 360. Wii won the sales but the 360 won the library and really was the console to have this generation.

Um, hate to break it to you, but "who won" is not a matter of opinion, it is a fact. And the fact is Nintendo won hands down. Not only in terms of sales, but in terms of profit, and unfluence on gaming, as it brought in a plethora of new gamers with fresh and unique types of games. Hell, the console was SOLD OUT for two years in America. It sold 3.8 million in the US just in December of 09. It is home to several games that have topped TEN MILLION units sold. It is also home to the best selling game of all time, Wii Sports. Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Mario Kart, NSMB, Smash (to a lesser degree) were phenomenons.. Nintendo not only won, but DOMINATED, revolutionizing gaming as we know it. Kinect, Move, many third party Wii-type games would not exist without Wii, and I'm willing to bet the industry would be in a much worse condition had Nintendo not introduced many to the world of gaming.

If you want to say PS3 had the best games, fine, but just say that PS3 had the best games. Don't equate that to somehow "winning" because that is a completely relative opinion. And that's not even one I agree with.. I never get why so many here insist that PS3 has the best games library like it's a fact. For me it had the worst. There are maybe a handful of exclusive PS3 games that even interest me (Uncharted series, LBP, Demons Souls). For my money, Wii had the best exclusive lineup while Xbox 360 had the best overall games library.

Wii domination cannot be compared to the PS and PS2 era. Sony and MS can still meet Wii numbers in the coming years, the N64, GC and Xbox had no chance to catch up to the original PS and PS2. Plus the games were more balanced. No doubt Nintendo wished their third party return was better becuase they would've made even more from that. Had to hurt seeing the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 get all those games and profit so much off of them. The Wii definitely won the gen, theres no arguing that.
