Forums - Sony - Sony on Vita: “it’s a PS4 in your pocket."

I don't understand why the Vita is punished for having additional functionality (ability to take a game from PS3/PS4 to Vita). It is a very cool and unique way of playing games. You want to know why most games on Gameboy or DS were unique experiences? Because they had to bend and contort the playstyle every which way just to get it to play similar to Console titles. With Vita(and sorta 3DS) there is very little comprimise between what you can functionally put on a handheld.

And this is not to say Vita has not been giving a stellar line up of unique, fresh, and great titles to play...that you can only play on Vita. Gravity Rush, Unit 13,Tearaway immediately come to mind. People look at the big Sony IP titles like its blasphemous that they have Vita entires.....yet are the first to run out for a Mario game on DS, hypocritical to say the least. Uncharted GA, ACIII:Liberations, Persona 4:Golden, and soon to add Batman, Killzone Mercs.

You say you enjoyed your 2D sprite fix on older handhelds, but what are the plethora of exclusive Indie Titles if not made in the Pre-AAA budget era of games? They are just like all those small but portable friendly titles you played back then.

I'm just saying....

I know, it seems insane, but those technical limitations appealed to me in that effort and love was put into an economy distinct from console model.  I love Castlevania on GBA and DS, the new one on 3DS which is technically much more advanced? Meh.

I have been playing a lot of Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing lately on my 3DS because I think they are condusive to a hand held experience.  Making an Uncharted or Assassin's Creed on a hand held device does not appeal to me and find myself saying "Man, wish that was on PS3".  I never do this with 3DS games, hard to say why, but my guess is lower tech forces innovation in other areas like art design, music, gameplay for something to be valued.

The Vita is a wonderful piece of hardware, but at its premium price (memory crads!) and current selection of games I just do not see a reason to buy it.

Isn't the Vita a PS3 in your pocket though? It can't be both!

And it sounds like they are describing the 3DS when they talk about being on a train. Certainly when Pokemon launches, all you'll need to do is look around and see that.

Yeah they said it was PS3 in your pocket! I'm getting conflicting messages.

In all honesty its a Playstation 2.8 in your pocket in terms of power and playstation 4 in your pocket in terms of streaming.

Its a great icing of the cake. It just needs some more dough to fill up the cake first and it will see some sucess. :)

It also has a great browser and youtube support that many overlook. Its the internet in your pocket aswell, wich is very handy to have faqs on easy acess or if you just want to waste some time on youtube without having to turn on the PC.

The issue I see is I have different expectations with home consoles and handhelds. If a handheld is cutting edge on par with a console then I keep asking "why wouldn't I just get a console". Dragon's Crown looks amazing, but I am definitely getting it on PS3.

I loved the GameBoy Advance and it was a decade behind technologically, but I got my 2D sprite fix with great games like those Castlevania titles or Minish Cap. Nintendo gives me unique experience I don;t get as much on consoles, with the new Zelda on 3DS being my most anticipated game of the year despite fact it could have been done on the Gamecube.

I think it's more an issue of the Vita and it's memory being too goddamned expensive, and a yawning gap in third-party support, than any double standard. If the Vita was $150 and took regular MicroSD cards, the console quality games would become a great asset. Instead, that target has become a noose around the system's neck because of how much the system costs as a result.

IDK, I still feel like the Memory Card thing is a weak argument. Its not like we didn't know the thing was going to need one. PSP did, and those MOFOs cost the same back then as the Vita one's now. Would I like them to be cheaper? Hell yes, but in no way a deal breaker.....for me at least.

Price is about the only real thing standing in its way that is a legitimate issue.....BUT let us not forget before the 3DS dropped price in a frantic plea to stay ahead that everyone thought the Vita was a steal for it's stated price. It only looks expensive in comparison to 3DS now, when a few months before launch it was a total bargain.

And out of curiousity and coparitive sake.....How much are the 3DS memory Cards? Sizes?

In this day and age, most smartphones and tablets come with 16GB of memory at minimum. The 3DS doesn't AFAIK, but it uses regualr SD cards which give you 32GB of storage for $20-25. There's simply no justification for proprietary, high priced memory cards AND a lack of built in memory in 2013. It's just absurd to me, and I can't blame people for being turned off by that--especially when Sony is pushing digital titles through PS+.

The 3DS comes with 2 GB internal and a 2 GB SD card.  And like you said, upgrading the SD card is cheap.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

The Vita cant even fit in my pocket! Give me a Vita Go!!

I just want it to have more/better games. Being able to play PS4 games on the go is nice, but that should just be a bonus feature and not the main (or even half) focus of the Vita.

to add salt to the wound: You don´t even need an SD card for saving, the save data is stored directly on the game card itself (as it should be)

unfortunatly sony, people will more likely have a ps4 instead of a vita in their pockets...poor vita...
just joking guys xP

I'll defend the PS Vita here and say that you can't fit a Wii U in your pocket.  It would be very strange to take a system that big (albeit small for a home console) around with you on a train.  At least a tablet device is thin (though not as fun as the Wii U).

I can't fit the Vita in my pocket either. Have you seen how big that thing is?

Apparently the Vita's moving up int the world.

It only needs PS2 classics and PS3 games to work (not sure if any work through remote play) on Playstation Store and then games from every Playstation system will be playable on Vita. That is pretty awesome. I also wonder if Gaikai will work on Vita when that comes out
