I don't understand why the Vita is punished for having additional functionality (ability to take a game from PS3/PS4 to Vita). It is a very cool and unique way of playing games. You want to know why most games on Gameboy or DS were unique experiences? Because they had to bend and contort the playstyle every which way just to get it to play similar to Console titles. With Vita(and sorta 3DS) there is very little comprimise between what you can functionally put on a handheld.

And this is not to say Vita has not been giving a stellar line up of unique, fresh, and great titles to play...that you can only play on Vita. Gravity Rush, Unit 13,Tearaway immediately come to mind. People look at the big Sony IP titles like its blasphemous that they have Vita entires.....yet are the first to run out for a Mario game on DS, hypocritical to say the least. Uncharted GA, ACIII:Liberations, Persona 4:Golden, and soon to add Batman, Killzone Mercs.

You say you enjoyed your 2D sprite fix on older handhelds, but what are the plethora of exclusive Indie Titles if not made in the Pre-AAA budget era of games? They are just like all those small but portable friendly titles you played back then.

I'm just saying....

I know, it seems insane, but those technical limitations appealed to me in that effort and love was put into an economy distinct from console model.  I love Castlevania on GBA and DS, the new one on 3DS which is technically much more advanced? Meh.

I have been playing a lot of Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing lately on my 3DS because I think they are condusive to a hand held experience.  Making an Uncharted or Assassin's Creed on a hand held device does not appeal to me and find myself saying "Man, wish that was on PS3".  I never do this with 3DS games, hard to say why, but my guess is lower tech forces innovation in other areas like art design, music, gameplay for something to be valued.

The Vita is a wonderful piece of hardware, but at its premium price (memory crads!) and current selection of games I just do not see a reason to buy it.
