One potential issue that raises is what will happen to the Vita if it increasingly becomes seen as a remote terminal for the PS4, rather than a console in it’s own right? Gara admits that’s a “good question” but states, “Certainly for the foreseeable [future] we intend to continue developing – our publishing partners will continue to develop – Vita experiences that are standalone”. However, what could happen is by no means fixed. “How will that evolve? I don’t know”, says Gara. “I think gamers will tell us how that will evolve [by] how they use the device in the future”. That said, he does go on to raise one obvious point: “What I would say is one thing you will not be able to do with your PS4 games, clearly, is play offline. So, you know, if you’re on a train, offline, what are you going to play on? So there isn’t today a mechanic, other than a dedicated PS Vita game, to play games in that environment”.

The main problem with the Vita is that it's having an identity crisis. Sony isn't quite sure what the console needs to focus on to be successful, so they're trying different things.

I think the whole identity crisis is being blown out of proportion. It's an expensive console, missing its number one franchise from last gen. PS+ is certainly helping, but it needs more games really. If it could play ps4 games remotely, that would just be another bonus.

Isn't the Vita a PS3 in your pocket though? It can't be both!

And it sounds like they are describing the 3DS when they talk about being on a train. Certainly when Pokemon launches, all you'll need to do is look around and see that.

It only does everything... :) Well, "in your pocket" with all the problems that you have to put aside for a good ps4-gaming-experience.

Also a Wii U. On trains there are Power sockets, all you need is to power the Wii U and then play the game on the gamepad.
