Forums - Nintendo - Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS isn’t Aimed at Experts

It never was aimed at experts. If diehard fighting game fans end up enjoying the product, it's not because the game was intentionally tailor-made to their desires.

Great games like Starcraft can be played by anyone, but are deep enough to be almost indefinitely masteres. Thus appealing to everyone

Agreed. There should be a scalable skill gap in every game. Opening games up to make it easier is stupid. Hopefully the better players can still find ways to increase the gap.

So, just like all the SSB's before? Just because the competitive Melee scene found ways to abuse the physics of the game it doesn't mean it was MADE for them. We already know SSB4 will be faster than SSBB again and less "floaty". This entitled minority (I doubt even 1Mil people play competitive at all) seriously needs to relax.

So... the same as Brawl and Melee?

according some people Melee was for experts

Everyone thinks they are experts when they are 10 years old.  Doesn't make it so.

but Melee was for experts, more than Brawl at least

No, Melee was bug-exploited until an intensely difficult and harsh playstyle that barely resembles the original game was forced upon any serious player.

Yeah but it was fun because you had to work very hard to hone those skills. People loved it so much so that it was part of MLG for some time.

Same thing with Street Fighter.

There's way too much pandering to these pampered North American kids who are taught "everyone's a winner" BS so they have to dumb games down. People should work themselves to reach their highest potential instead of capping game mechanics.

Are you for real?  Are you saying that without the wavedash glitch you didn't like smash Bros?  That and tripping were the only vast differences in the two.  Please tell me i'm mistaken.

i wish this wasn't news. I think it's going to be misinterpreted. Every smash brothers game has been more accessible than any other fighting game. It's nothing new. When you pick up the game you can do every move without learning a combo or button combination. It's simplicity is part of what makes the game shine. You hit a direction and 1 of 2 buttons and that's all the moves. Any meters to monitor? no. if you can't see your character your probably dead. This quote doesn't signify that the game is going to be less or more technical than the past games.

Ok, but according to Sakurai Melee was for experts or intermediate? Melee was very competitve but not as competitive as Street Fighter imo.

I love how people are jumping the bandwagon before the game it's close to getting released. lol

Brawl is also far slower, floatier, and lacks hit stun making combos more difficult.  Also, other advanced techniques that were intended to be in melee (not glitch abuse like wave dashing) such as L canceling were taken out.  Sakurai has SAID that he intended Brawl to be a much easier game in order to appeal to the Wii crowd.   I don't want wave dashign back, but I do want a faster game, which the new smash seems to be.

With Smash, they always do, but some features can turn many off as well. For example, the slipping in Brawl was not welcome because it was random and mandatory.

I think this is a non-story. Sakurai wants the game to be balanced, accessible, and fun to play. Isn't that what all games should be?
