Forums - Microsoft - Cliffy B strikes back on DRM and Family Sharing

well I have physical discs lent to people across the ocean right now.... so his argument is not irrelevant to all of us... actually I haven't a single IRL friends I would lend games to that have a n XB that are closer than 3 hour drive one way and that's since 2 weeks ago before it was 12 hours away driving..... but I know I'm the minority such features would have been great for me and my friends

He shouldn't be the one touting this feature after going crazy about used games. If he's so against selling your game even once to someone else then this scheme where you can share your game with 10 people instantly is a complete developer nightmare compared to the former, especially SP games where 2 people play at once. He should be the first person to be against this scheme.

This is the kind of thing that has made him lose credibility.

That's a retarded argument in those photos, I have never in my life lent a game to friends all over the nation and I never will. Besides, Cliffy's concern is used games killing the industry, won't it kill it if you can simply share your games with others and they won't have to buy it themselves?
Isn't that even worse?
At least if ten people buy used copies, that would mean that there had to be ten original sales in the first place (of course, one game could be purchased several times though).

It would've been a really cool feature if they let you do that. It also would've been far, far worse than the current situation, as it would mean that people would have less incentive to pay a dime to anybody at all. Why bother, when you could just split the price with people in your friends' list and all share one copy? I don't buy it.

The only way that it would've worked for devs if there were severe restrictions on how much people on different accounts used your copy. The demo situation is the only one I can imagine being palatable to publishers. I'd love to hear details on what MS was going to do that was so much better without pissing them off...but with their digital plans, they've been far more interested in giving us heady declarations about the future than the meat-and-potatoes of their actual plans.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

:D

MS could still do "family sharing" with just digital games.

Cliff Blezsinki timeline:

- He supports DRM on Xbox One, because that means developers will receive more money.
- When Microsoft drops DRM, he rants like a fanboy, and blame us, terrible people who buy used games, on the closing of gaming studios.
- He keeps defending DRM by saying that one copy would be enough to let 10 people play - instead of each of these 10 people buying their own copy, which would give developers more money.
- ...WTF?

Fucking hypocrite. I officialy despise Cliff B now.

i thought you could already share playstation games digitally?
my brother owned a ps3 way before me, and when i bought my ps3, i put his account on my ps3, and have downloaded all of his digital games, and have played them too.

I think Sony fixed that.

You can do the same with the 360 though

1) Download a digital title you agreed to pay with $ or MS points on your account, and make sure your signed on as the first user. You can do this at any friends house.

2) Your friend can play any title downloaded on his system as long as you bought it on his system.

3) Don't re-download it again on any sytem and/or recover your gamertag and he can play it on their system as long as you don't do that.

I've done this with a few titles on my wifes xbox and she can always play them.

It's just that simple.

come to think of it I never seen Don Mattrik and Cliff B. in the same room.
