Hate to burst some peoples bubble. Sony has already publicly stated they will be going all digital. Just a matter of when. They felt it was too early to do this gen.

No backwards compatibility is a much bigger crime than DRM in my opinion. I've made many posts about that... I don't care what the technical limitations are, they should figure out a way.
However the only thing that saves microsoft and sony from complete lashing in terms of not offering backwards compatibility is the fact that last gen consoles were physical medium based with a fun, side business of offering downloadable titles. There is no always on, no syncing with the cloud on xbox 360, for my purchases to be available. The console was never designed to take advantage of digital and never promissed to offer digital cloud based gaming.

Fable 3 is currently absolutely free for digital download if you're a gold member. Lots of great sales of great games are available on xbox live, you are just to busy with other stuff to notice or turn the blind eye to them.
@disolitude digital is only better when u can access it with various forms of hardware... Consoles have nit come to that point yet to be reliable in that regard especially in future sense

You are absolutely correct.
But with that said, I was hoping to get a head start with the Xbox One. I see lots of different hardware being able to play Xbox One titles in the next 20 years.
Like I don't get it...before this DRM change, did people think that in 7-8 years Microsoft is going to stop and say:
"Everyone stop what you are doing! Here is a new piece of hardware with new DRM. Please rebuy all your digital titles that you already bought and are following you through the cloud because now they have to go through a different cloud"
Makes me wonder if people are in touch with reality if they think Microsoft is going to shut down servers and move to a different cloud next gen...
Now after the DRM change, I don't know WTF is going to happen with the Xbox. It works the same way as the old Xbox360 so they can pull some BS and reset the whole thing. Half the titles will be digital while the other half physical...they may do some crazy, jump through hoops policy where you mail them the physical game and they give you a digital coupon. God knows... When there is no platform consistency, the whole experience tends to get diluted.
I'd love to argue intelligently with someone about this...instead of the usual "DRM is the devil!! You're a fanboy".
Yah that's good, nothing left to complain about the Xbox One so you decided to start new bashing threads about the future Xbox (Xbox Two?)... Dude you need to find something else to do with your free time :)
Regardless of what people want, movies, games, and music will all be pretty much digital only in 10-15 or so years. Sure you'll have occasional stores that sell old CD's and records, movie shops that sell old blu-ray players and old blu-ray movies, and retro game stores that sell old used consoles and games but if you want to buy anything new, you'll have to buy it digital.
IF there even are consoles the generation after this I guarantee they will all be digital with no optical drives at all.

Microsofts vision for the industry isnt something that i would call amazing, it isnt something that would benefit me or you. why does the future have to be ALL digital? why does it have to be CONTROLLED by microsoft? why does it mean i am given restricitions instead of choices? why is the future the cloud? the endless power of the cloud? is that the answer? apperantly so, guess who controlls that power though? |

It's an obvious prediction and isn't bold at all. I think Sony will do it too. Just like Steam on consoles, which MS were already trying to achieve...
