Call of Duty sells 20 million units annually, Wii Fit sells 20 million units each, but Vanquish and Catherine can't even break 1 million?

Destiny and Titanfall are highly desired games after E3, but X and Pikmin 3 get almost no hype?

Pokemon is guarenteed to break 10 million, but SMT IV and Soul Sacrifice will probably only get 1 million combined?

Halo sells 10 million, but Uncharted and The Last of Us struggle to break 5, if that?

Dragon Quest IX sells close to 6 million units world wide, but Front Mission DS sells 0.05 million?

In all honestly, Catherine is a pretty niche game.

I'm still mad at the numbers of Shadows of the Damned, though, that's probably one of the most niche games ever made.

Marketing and good word, that's what sell. Even though, I'm surprised with the sales of Bioshock: Infinite, for example. They are worse than I expected, much much worse.

You might as well ask if there's something wrong with people in general. Firefly barely lasts one season, but Jersey Shore is one of the biggest shows of all time. That the mainstream is kind of the derpstream is hardly unique to gaming, and furthermore...

This is round about what I was saying in my Vita thread, consumers need to accept some of the blame on why some good products/games don't get any attention yet other things don't

I think a lot of gamers buy games based off what's advertized the most, and what's popular in general.

Some games have wider appeal than others. Can't really blame more casual gamers for playing more casual games, as much as I'd like to.

I play what I like but it is sometimes hard to imagine how anyone could dislike the games I play though lol. I guess we all just have different tastes. Can't do anything about it.

All those super successful games you mentioned are successful for a reason, they're good, and people like them.

Even COD, which at this point is excessively milked, is one of the few shooters on consoles that offers a super smooth, fluid experience, and it's multiplayer is unmatched.

Some of the less successful games you mentioned are niche, and actually unusually successful for a niche title.
