Most "gamers" have only heard of COD, Ninty's popular titles, Assasin's Creed, Halo, Resident Evil, Disgaea, sports rehashes and a few other hugely popular franchises.

Just last week, my roommate walked in on me playing Tales of Graces F. His comment "what the hell kind of game is that...some Japanese anime s@#$?" My roommate is what I'd call a "mainstream gamer"

People typically think there are two kinds of gamers: casual and hardcore but they are very wrong. There are actually 3 kinds of gamers IMO:

1. Casuals: Folks who play games but are scared of using a traditional controller. "How do I remember all the buttons?" is a statement you can expect from this crowd. They are sold on non-traditional controls i.e motion, touchscreen, etc and simplistic "quick fix" kinds of games. These folks are most of the population

2. Mainstream gamer: Most of the dudebros fit here. this goes for those who only play Halo, COD, GTA, Assassin's Creed, Typical Sports titles, Some nintendo faithful, etc. these folks are more than hardcore gamers.

3. Hardcore Gamer: These folks play anything and are passionate about gaming. The backbone of the industry. These are the kinds of people you would see spending significant time on gaming forums. If said gamer has heard of a series like "Disgaea" or "hyperdimension Neptunia", whether they have played the games or not, they're most likely hardcore. These are the fewest but most reliable customers.

Just my 2 cents...

Hardcore = Disgaea = CoD, Halo, sports games, etc = Mainstream Gamer  = Most gamers = Casuals

Edited my original post. Didnt meam to call disgaea a "popular title" I was thinking faster than I was typing. happens all the time

Wow, I'm hardcore then! I have no clue in hell what the second title neptune is though. Is there anymore games to test my hardcoreness?

don't forget No 4. Loyalist

says they play games but actually spend most of their time bickering on the internet as said loyalist for nintendo, sony or microsoft

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

The world is made up of average sheep. The outcomes shouldn't be surprising. It's still disappointing though.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

I don't know everytime I come across something like this.. I usually look at a few reasons.

1. popularity.. the example you give on Dragonquest compared to Front Mission is a perfect example of this.. Dragon Quest is popular in Japan(One of the.. if not the most popular RPG) and earned it's popularity here via the Playstation and PS 2. As thus it was destined to be popular no matter what system it came out on.. the fact that it came to DS.. just enhanced that popularity... meanwhile Front Mission.. unless you really pay attention.. got overlooked even when it originally came out by the west.. and the fact that it was a remake of a game in Japan.. did not help it..

2. Timing. Basically sometimes a game just comes out at the wrong time.. there is more popular titles.. or so many good games on a persons list that they need to buy.. that good games can get overlooked.. it's unfortunate.. but it is true.. Gamers have their priorities.. other games can be classics.. but if they are not on the top of that list no matter what... it get's put off...

3. Attitude: Gamers sometimes have a serious attitude problem.. what do I mean..?? Okay look at it this way.. Okami.. or Mario.. or any game like that.. by all rights and purposes great games.. unfortunately.. there is a general attitude.. cartoon type graphics equals sucks.. it could be the most ground breaking... greatest classic ever.. and it won't matter.. just because of this general attitude... as thus some games no matter how great they are.. are forgotten.. or overlooked.. just because they have "Kiddie graphics" (And I am sorry to say this.. but honestly on the last example.. I have to say there is something wrong with them.)

Nintendo Wii by generations...

1. Wii

2. Wii U

3. Wii O U

Predictions made by gamers concerning the current Nintendo line up of games.

Pikmen 3= Little Bump to nothing. (Got Little Bump)

Wind Waker HD= Won't sell anything (The explosion happened here and at one time 4 Wii U games was in the Amazon top 100)

Super Mario 3D World= Won't help at all looks cheap. (Currently the most sought after Wii U game and continuing the Wii U increase.)

Is there something wrong with gamers?

Just the (fossils) ones who think that all digital isn't on the way.LOL.

Typical "hardcore" gamer rhetoric.. "I love X game, therefore it must be great!" and in the same breath.. "Y game sells, so therefore it sux."

Different gamers have different tastes ya know..

For the record, I actually enjoy Call of Duty, and even Wii Fit. Crazy, I know!

niche games are some of the best games out there you wouldn't want the developers to dumb down the game to attarct more people.

Marketing, and gameplay. Some people prefer simplistic yet refined gameplay to something that could be more complicated and different like say VC or Disgaea.

Western gaming is taking the edge, so competitive gaming trumps intellectual gaming.

X is getting plenty of hype, i would say. More than Xenoblade was around the same time (back when it was Monado: The Beginning of the World). Along with the fact that Nintendo is going to willingly release it worldwide, it should do quite well

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
