I have a question. Slightly off topic. So now discs run directly from the console, what does this mean for Microsoft and Sony with respect to royalties? Is the situation any different from the setup they had before with the instal? (payments or avoiding it rather). If you find me ignorant, then by all means enlighten me. Thank you in advance.

I'm sure someone else can explain in better detail.  I do know that Sony plays a major part in the Blu-Ray Disc Association (BDA).  If Sony owns part of the Blu-Ray technology, Sony gets a small cut from all media sales.  Vague, I know.  Could someone else plesse shed more light on this?

Thanks for responding. That's my impression. I heard since it was not running off the disc before due to installs they would avoid paying Sony. Providing that is true, it would seem they would have to pay them now. But, one can never be sure with these things, so I just wanted clarification. Thanks again for your thoughts.

That hole in Ballmer's ass couldn't handle it anymore.

A console costing $100 more expensive, without showing anything but a superior camera bundled with it, is no assurance of generating sales.

Compared to the Move camera that sony has no faith in...Atleast Kinect does stuff that is not tied to gaming like video Skype and voice command to change TV channels...Not that was some sort of selling point anyway...Just want to point how sony has no faith in their camera 3 gens in a row now...

Well, I do know that Toshiba gets a cut for every DVD media sold, and there is a start up fee to a "DVD association" if you want to start making and pressing DVD's.  This I why Toshiba tried to maintain that cashflow by introducing HD-DVDs.  I believe this similarly applies to Blu-Ray as well.

Eh, show a couple new games and people will forget all about the fiasco that was the x1's two week long reveal

A new Halo always covers everything (for me it is a new GT but I get the ideia).

Wait is bungie back too... oh... nope still 343, right so no real Halo then.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

About 10 million console sales that go over to Sony instead over the course of the coming generation.

It did lots of damage, it was in people's mind despite Microsoft's great E3 showing. It made alot of people go away from Xbox and it damaged Microsoft's reputation and people's trust with them. Some people will never go to Xbox or ever go back because of this. I mean nearly even gaming or news website hounded the Xbox One because of what it planned on doing.

The only thing i think they should change is their policy with indies right now, all 3 companies need the support they can get and Xbox might fall behind if it doesn't change that. People will still buy it despite price, just as PS3 was successful but always more expensive.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030
