Forums - Gaming - Is it me, or are consumers attempting more crowd control than Microsoft?

I haven't really seen much PR from microsoft on xbone really. What little we have seen, has just been a confirmation of what we feared with a light PR spin, or just enraging gamers more (i.e. No internet? We have a product for that called 360.), or claiming to be like steam and that it's "good for everybody" IT seems with every PR comment they make they're shooting themselves more in the foot so we've seen some tight lips recently.

What I do see is a lot of people trying really hard (especially in this forum, I'm not seeing it anywhere else really) to put a positive spin on their policies and justify their policies, sometimes even making things up...

Its the complete opposite, haters are making shit up to make the console seem less attractive.  Talk of turning activation servers off after 10 years, supposed hardware issues because of the size of the console, only focusing on the negatives of DRM and not the benefits, downplaying all exclusives and making out they're just timed with ZERO evidence to show otherwise, claiming high end PC's were used to make all XBO games look better on the basis on one picture from one third party and anecdotal evidence of a crash.   Then there are all the threads quoting twitter from Xbox support trying to twist normal customer service responses to questions its clear they don't have all the answers too into them somehow not caring or to downplay features.

This forum is riddled with Sony fanboys behaving as above but you somehow seem blind to it, wonder why?

Microsoft has been hated since day one on the original Xbox. I don't see anything new here. It's just now, people have more reasons to bash them.

This is the thing though, it's not the Sony users that is making the XboxOne less attractive, its MS and its policies.

I really wish we could get past this Fanboy vs Fanboy thing, its unlikely but i wish we could. Theres a reason for MS bashing right now... they screwed up, and their policies and messaging are all kinds of wrong. I think the easy option is to blame Fanboys, but on the whole its a large proportion of the gaming community that are up in arms about this. Now considering that Xbox 360/Ps3 have sold about the same, i think that tells you all you need to know... i.e that its not just Sony users that are upset.

I know a few people who were Xbox 360 pro all the way this gen, they had a Ps3 but the normal "Switch it on for uncharted" type thing. This time they are going straight to PS4. Just because of the policies of MS.

Perhaps you don't care what MS is doing, and perhaps you are already still getting an XboxOne, so i can understand you are probably upset that they are getting alot of anger right now. But dont be so misguided to think this is all because of Sony fans/fanboys.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

i just can speak for mysellf and i don't have to spin anyting. for me, as someone who is always online with his 360, who never rents games and who never buys or sells used games, the xbox one with the family sharing function has a better system as we had before. it won't really change something for me since i will still buy my games but it will change something for the people who will be in my family group because i always buy a lot of games and since i don't sell them, they can all participate in that. my "real family" doesn't live close to me anymore and most of my friends do also live in other cities, just giving them my physical disc isn't really an option.

i don't say that this has to be better for other people like you but at least for my brothers and some friends who also don't really sell or buy used games, this is not bad.

it is pretty simple in my case and nobody has to tell me that i try to spin something just because he doesn't see an advantage in this system for him or or other people.

It's more like the opposite. We have like 5-10 people really interested in the Xbox One because they see some advantages in the policies or like the games. Then we have like 100 people bashing the Xbox One thread in thread out. And suprise 60 % of those people have something playstation related in their sig or wouldn't buy an xbox in the first place. It has even come so far that xboxfans have been called uneducated retarded fanboys for wanting an One. It's really getting out of hand and the continous stream of hate should stop. Let people make their own decisions and have some fun. It's not because you don't like something another person will too.

Coming from someone who will buy an Xbox One AND Playstation 4

Consumers are crowd controlling? Certainly not the ones interested in X1 lol

Personally, I have no interest in convincing anyone to buy the X1. That's not my job, I don't work for MS. I will buy the system because I personally like what MS is doing. Anyone who feels differently, that's their own opinion, and that's ok too. I am however pretty offended by the fact that there seem to be so many people online lately who feel they need to talk me out of my own purchase decisions like I'm supporting the downfall of gaming and all that nonsense.

I think its because over the last few years people have started to become very jaded with the games industry and in particular DRM... because ultimately its those people who spend the money that get the most trouble from it, and the pirates get away with having an easier time. The start of the big issue was Diablo (single player game getting multiplayer lag) and then SimCity (slow/unable to access). So don't think this is just a XBoxOne issue, it's not... but the issue now is that when its on PC, people can vent to the games publisher - hey this is crap, ain't buying your games again. You don't see anyone complaining to dell etc. The issue really is that MS is pushing this forward because its their hardware, and i think that is making people very angry when they were already pretty angry before that.

I have no intention of talking anyone out of any purchase, people make their own bed and have to sleep in it... thats not my problem :) - But I think there is *alot* of anger at DRM at the moment.

I just hope that games on the MS platform don't have "licensing" or "activation" issues at launch, otherwise the crap is going to hit the fan.

Why is it that the people with PlayStation signatures and Avatars seem to be more interested in the Xbox One?

You'd think that would be the first question asked... Considering Sony fans make the threads a majority of the time. No, again, MS fans are the focus? My apologies.

Nah, not blind to, we all know their is hate roaming around, but that's not the point I'm trying to make.  What I'm saying is that microsoft isn't doing much to keep things calm it seems really......and when they do, it usually makes things worse.

What I  do notice is a plethora of defensive threads, to go along with the plethora of the offensive ones. The defensive ones take a lot of thing out of context just as well and speculation (don't hate me pbroy, but i think your DRM thread is laughable and a good example for this) though, while others are definently doing a lot better than microsofts PR division and others..... "Well a rich kid who doesn't care about anyone else and this works for me.."

Also people defending with there heels so firm in the ground the responses of "deal with it" or "people will buy it anyway from studies" is astonishing to me. I will never understand fanboyism for any console....and before anyone gets in a hissy fit I'm not directing that fanboy comment to anyone. To me it seems like they've almost given up PR on it and are just lettig others do the talking for them....and if you want to be fair about it sony hasn't commented either and is letting their fans do the attacking for them.

If you really want to question my "loyalty to a company" with your ad hominem I'll spell it out for you. I could give a rat's ass about either company. Each generation if there is an exclusive I want bad enough that isn't on PC i'll nab the console. Happened last year with monster hunter on wii and star ocean (was still exclusive at the time) on 360. I'm the PC guy on the side watching both side with knives go at it having a laugh.  What I do have a problem is region locking, and always online. The fact that I'm in the military and move often to different countries where it won't work. I also deploy this winter. "One" of these consoles won't work anywhere I'm going or anywhere I'll be living until 2017.
