Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo hardly showed anything new AT ALL; have they run out of ideas? (Rant)

Nintendo are not delivering on anything they promised. Remember how Reggie was upset with lack of key franchises on Wii, and wanted that corrected for Wii U. They are failing. They are failing worse than ever. And at the same time they are not pleasing the audience they do have either.

I am so upset about how they are destroying the company, and everything they built up in the Wii years. They have given away the market. If you don't see it, you are blind.

The funniest thing is that they didn't showcase ANY use of the gamepad except for Tingle.

So Nintendo were going to revolutionize gaming yet again with their controller, but they themselves have found no use for it yet. I remember when Nintendo actually designed their hardware around their brilliant game ideas. Now they came up with a silly hardware gimmick and have no idea how to use it, or how to promote it. Such a joke.

Incorrect. The Wonderful 101 also used the GamePad as a primary control feature.

Wonderful 101 was shown last year, so nothing new. and it's not made by Nintendo.

I don't remember them detailing how the GamePad was used in TW101 until now, but fine.

Glass half full point of view. If instead you look at what they did present, you'd have a very different opinion.

The highlights for me:

Smash gameplay, with Megaman.

Mario Kart 8 looks awesome.

SM3DW IS new, it have so many unrecognizable features from the original. Coop, Yoshi as a boat, a cat costume which drastically alters Mario's movement. Man if this is not new... It all depends on what you want. If it's a new IP then sure you didn't get it. If you wanted a whole new world for Mario then sure you didn't get it but you know you will and that's all you need to know.

DKCR 2. Since when are sequels not new? What is it you want?

X. How is this more new than a sequel to Donkey Kong Country? They are different games in different genres, sequels mean different things in these genres.

Bayo 2, what's more new about X than this?

What about the Gamecube for example was so much more new in its second year than for U? Man you've been a Nintendo fan for this long, this is how they roll.

Huh. I guess nobody cares about X after all.

X didn't convince anyone back in January, so it had to be something other than X.

Then I have no clue what would convince anyone. Bayonetta 2 is shaping up to be a looker as well, though the focus will be on 60 FPS.

This line of criticism can be directed at just about every company. Why single out Nintendo?

With this ND, Nintendo didn't show anything near the level of ambition or hunger I expected out of them in the wake of the Wii U's problems. Mario Kart and Smash won't be out until next year, the Retro game ended up being yet another DKC platformer, and the 3D Mario is 3D Land U with Peach and cat suits. The new Sonic game on Wii U looks a lot more interesting. Meanwhile, the next Zelda game wasn't even mentioned.

Nothing I saw out of the Direct convinced me that the WiiU will bring enough to the table to compete with the other next gen consoles this holiday. Or that Nintendo itself is willing or able to deal with the gravity of the situation. They're doing a piss poor job of leveraging their broad range of IPs, and aren't doing much with the ones they are working on with the Wii U. That Mario Kart 8 was the most intriguing of the bunch worries me greatly.

In the wake of their lack of 3rd party support compared to the Xone and PS4, Nintendo needed to come correct this morning. They didn't.

What about the U is different than the cube in terms of core content newness? If after all these years you haven't realized that Nintendo don't go apeshit on new IPs, then you're clearly barking up the wrong tree. They aren't Sony, they're Nintendo, take them or leave them.

Ugh no this is NOT applicable to Sony. I went to town on them in the vita thread for their vita handling last night so they definitely have things they need to be criticized over. But bringing new IPs and ideas is not one of them.

It is different. Remember, this was the Direct that should have had a game that shows off the Wii U's true power. Which everyone banked on that it would be a new IP from Retro, hence why people don't like the actual games and especially not Donkey Kong Country which is a crappy 2D platformer and a waste of talent and resources.

No, this was the Direct that should have had Mother 4.
