Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft can still trump Sony by...

Hmmm anyway you look at it xb360 destroyed ps3 this Gen.... This is not care bear land... Total profit is all that matter... And on that front MS crushed Sony by light years.... Cause yeah today after 8 years they have a 100k+ but that's pretty much it... That's just a raw number good for fans....
here we have the same issue, pretty sure xbone will end up more profitable than the ps4.... Sony is living in the last century their entire business model is flawed..., yeah it might be appealing for the handful hardcore gamers that post on game forum, but even if they look like the most dedicated customer they are not the one bringing in the biggest chunk of money.... Today MS could have a couple million less than Sony and still be profitable... This will stand this Gen.... And we have yet to see if not pleasing us core gamer will really influence sales at launch.... If what some of you feel like it's a deal breaker really was relevant to the masses, apple would be bankrupt by now....

they can get most of their fanbase back if they remove mandatory game installs.

It's not the installs, it is the ability to play without the disc. You can keep installs, but just make people put the disc in. Most reports seem to suggest that the PS4 will require installs too

Describe to me in detail how this install process works on PS4 if you can, im misinformed.

Well as far as I can tell, you put the disc in and as you start playing, it loads the data onto the HDD. It is not like an installation for a PC/Xbone game where you need some sort of key, it is just a datadump that is useless without the disc in.

I haven't seen this from anything official, but it is what most people seem to be suggesting

Is that data the actual game? Do you have to have the disc in the machine for the game to work? Can you play the game without having the disc in the machine?

So this is where the difference is, you DO have to have the disc in to play as far as I can understand, it works the same way that PS3 installs work (or probably more like 360 ones). I am sure there is some way to conbine the best of both worlds, but sticking with the current gen method seems to the most popular

Just remove the DRM & Used game restrictions and I don't see why the X1 can't dominate the upcoming generation.

While the inernet is up in arms about that, most consumers really will not care. They will see the 399 vs 499 as the biggest difference between the 2

Well that's true but hardware price always goes down after a year or two. So it won't be an ever lasting issue unlike the mandatory DRM.

Yes, but I don't care about Microsoft enjoyement with Xbox One. I'm talking about what they can do to please the consumer, which is the ones that make them have profits.
