$130 for a next gen console is not a big difference at all! I'm in Australia... $270? Which SKU? The 12gb? Some are only $150 in difference... Only a fool would buy the PS3 for the small amount compared to the hardware you'd be getting. PS4 is selling with a loss, not a huge one but it's at least decent in size meanwhile the PS3 is not. 400-500 in tech, at wholesale prices against the PS3? LOL

The choice is obvious.

The 320GB PS3 is $278 vs $549 for the PS4. Say what you want but, at the end of the day, people are still buying the PS3 despite the PS4 announcement. How do you explain that? Dude, despite all the 3DS domination in Japan, the PS3 is keeping with it. Even better - a GT game is coming out this holiday season.

Also, how do you know how much of a loss, if any, the PS4 is taking?

You're kidding right? I really shouldn't have to answer this... It's more expensive then the X1 yet the PS4 will sell for $100 less. Sony also said they don't want to take a massive loss. The components are estimated to be around $400, not including shipping, advertising, manufacturing... It's obvious they're taking a decent hit from the PS4. A 2 minute Google search would have cleared all that up.

I found this 320gb SKU worth $288, that's $261 difference. The best choice is still the PS4 for most Sony gamers, not so much for Sony though. The PS3 is doing well now, what about after the PS4 is released? Most people have absolutely no idea they're coming yet until they're heavily advertized on TV. The gamers on the online forums are the minority, don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise.

This time the gap will be a lot bigger.

PS4 + bill of materials shows $275 on google.

So, people are waiting for the PS4 to be released to stop buying the PS3? It's not like they can wait 5 months or anything, right?

PS3 doesn't count. Wii is already last gen for Ninty and it'll take several years before PS3 overtakes Wii. And it's not certain it will.

I think something disastrous has to happen to Sony, or console gaming over all, for Sony to not come out on top in gen 8. If console gaming in general nose dives because a lot of people will just stick with what they've got and move to mobile platforms, then Wii U could end up winning purely because they launched first and they have what could be an unassailable lead for a generation whose winning platform will only sell a total of 30-40 million units.

I don't think console gaming is dying. But I do think it is shrinking. I don't think any console will sell more than 80 million units this generation. Mark this post and come back to it in 6 year's time.

I also said nothing like that. Read what I type, then respond.

Just google PS4 + Bill of Materials. It's that simple. Also, $38-$50 for a 500GB HDD? Allow me to be skeptic.

The PS4 reveal trailer has 29M views on youtube. It's been advertised during the Champions League final which was viewed by 360,000,000 people. It's been covered in mainstream media outlet and you're saying that people don't know that the PS4 is coming?

PS consoles have long lives and that's a fact.

Again, no links or sources. You have nothing. As far as I'm aware, everything you type is made up.

It's been covered in mainstream media outlet and you're saying that people don't know that the PS4 is coming?

I said until it gets heavily advertized on TV, the average Joe won't know a thing. READ, THEN RESPOND.

What media outlet was it? 360,000,000? No source, no link?

Everyone in the world watched and loved the X1's reveal while they were on their magic carpets. Sadly, that statement holds as much "facts" as your whole argument about mainstream media outlets and 360 million people...

http://metro.co.uk/2013/05/28/wembley-champions-league-final-attracts-global-audience-of-150million-3811469/ "The Champions League final at Wembley was watched by over 360million people worldwide, according to figures released today."

I guess as an Aussie you don't know how massively popular Soccer is. Or you don't know how big of a population Europe, Russia, Africa and South America are combined. And that's not including Asia, which also likes Soccer quite a bit. 360 million is probably 10-15% of the population of the nations where Soccer is the most popular sport. So 360 million is hardly an unbelievable number requiring a linked source in order to be credible. If he'd said 1.5 billion watched the game then you could reasonably expect to see a credible source for such a claim.

As for mainstream media outlets, it's easy enough to verify. Though if anything Xbone has had more mainstream press than PS4 because of it's poor PR job, and you know the press prefers to report bad news.

I'm guessing most active console gamers know that Xbone and PS4 have been announced for 2013 launch. Those are the ones that matter right now because those are the ones who are most likely to buy in the first year.

My whole countries population is only around 22,000,000 or so, it's quite unbelievable for me personally so I felt a link was required!

Thank you!! See people, we can all get along!!
