Forums - Sony - Sony is about to win 2 generations in 1

Now you are back to set dates and not even fluid. I think you are just trolling me. Your definition has changed a few too many times. Already over dominant marketshare and now over in a month.
I do hope the ps3 outsells the wii so guys like you can see how long you last .correcting everyone who says the ps3 is the best selling generation 7 console

My definition has not changed. It's "already over" in the sense that a football game is already over if there's a minute to go and one team has an insurmountable lead.

I don't know about PS3 (it's possible but nowhere near guaranteed) but PS4 is gonna win by default, since MS and Nintendo decided to commit mass suicide.

Okay, I'm curious. How did Nintendo commit suicide?

I'd argue they abandoned their new audience only to go back to a diminishing audience that they haven't had much clout with since the SNES era...

and they did it with an unconventional tablet controller that unnessisairly  inflated the price of the product.

As for PS3 passing wii... it seems highly unlikely.

It's not out of the question that it could leg past sony if sony really wanted it to, but I can't really see sony wanting to.

Are they really going to want to either

A) Produce pricey custom parts in small numbers and lose their production discounts.

B) Produce a big wave they don't know when they will sell?

Will the producers still want to be producing these chips when they really aren't used anywhere else?

Seems. Unlikely.

With a price cut and continued software&marketing support PS3 can make it. Now that no more Wiis are produced it's not impossible.

only in japan.

i doubt the PS3 will continue selling as much as the PS2 did after the PS3's launch after the PS4's launch, the PS3 looked way to unattractive compared to the PS2, whereas the PS4 looks like a much more enticing purchase than the PS3 this time around.

Do they produce Wiis elsewhere? Aren't the factories only in Japan?

If PS3 continues to sell, lets say another 20M over 4 years to reach 100M LT, you can't pretend that it only sold 80M LT just because the new gen launched.

The console is still selling, it's still relevant because people are still buying it. If it outsells the Wii then it won the 7th gen. Sony put a lot more effort into the end of this gen to extend the life of the console and have an history of doing so.

PS2 did around 35 million I think after the PS3's launch.

PS3 doing just half of that would put it super close to the 100 million mark.

However I think Vita.tv sales will hurt PS3 more than PS4's success will. PS4's $400 and is just too expensive for the uber casuals potentially buying systems this late in the gen. Vita.TV however is only $100 and for a long time will be even cheaper than the PS3. Factor in gaikai for PS3 games and I could see a hefty majority of the PS3's potential end of life sales going to Vita.TV instead.

Different people arguing different questions, Got to love it.  I should have created a new thread rather than bumping this one, but I hate duplicates and wanted to hear further opinions now that Wii is officially discontinued.

I think to everyone arguing Wii has won and generation is over, c'mon man!.  This is a website that tracks the total sales of consoles.  That is the purpose of the website, and its very reason for existence.

And it is very obvious that the OP is asking if the PS3 will eventually sell through more consoles than Wii,  They may have obscured by using the terms "win" or "generation", but we all know what this thread is about if we read the below question.

Both the PS3 and the PS4 are looking to be the highest selling console of their respective generation and that is going to happen in the next few years

So the question is if PS3 eventually pass Wii in total cummulative sales, plain and simple.  Not which has a larger market share at a given point in time, which was more profitible, which had better games, or finally, whether it matters or not if PS3 eventually outsells.

Lifetime Sales Prediction - 6/29/2013
Wii U - 38 million
XBOX One - 88 million
Playstation 4 - 145 million

MS is making all the right moves as of right now. I highly doubt they commited suicide. Nintendo, Not sure.
