I think their first mistake goes all the way back to N64 with RARE.

They should have bought them out JUST for the IPs, who cares i the people left as people are replaceable.

Back to the topic at hand, They need to release that 3rd parties dont give a damn about them and move on. Therefore, I agree they need to create more studios or purchase some good IPs that are going bankrupt. Another mistake, when THQ went under there was a fair few good IPs they could have picked up.

They absolutely should have bought RARE. That would have been such a terrific acquisition. And I also agree that they dropped the ball when THQ went under (though I think I read somewhere that they had picked up a few developers from that company, but I may be wrong). But the IP's were going dirt cheap; they should have snapped some of them up.

Why buy RARE for 400 million, when you can buy Retro for 1 million? (No seriously that's how much Retro cost)

Just to keep all those ips

I get your point, but I doubt those IPs were worth the asking price. None of them, save Banjo Kazooie, were beyond niche. If Nintendo could have just bought the IPs for a cheaper asking price, that would be another thing.

Can't believe so many people are saying yes. Nintendo has a lot of talented first party studios. Nintendo just rushed the Wii U and underestimated development time. That's why we have the drought that we do.

So many people seem to have this mentality of "the more first party games the better." From a business perspective it's simply not the case. Nintendo has enough studios for several big first party releases a year. These releases already have to compete with third party games. Making Nintendo's first party offerings compete with each other in addition to third parties is not a good idea.

What about the droughts from the 3DS, the Wii, the DS, and the N64? This is not to diss Nintendo or the Wii U, it's more or less to say that anyone who's been gaming since the Clinton administration should expect an early drought with every single console ever.

I'm of the belief that yes, the more first party games, the better. Nintendo should stop worrying about trying to please overly fickle, sensitive and diva third parties and let the haughty ones worry about themselves. They'll come around regardless once they see a console flying off the shelves and that there's a market for their games, which is what Nintendo needs to help create.

I don't know that they need to create more studios. However, I DO think they need to get back to making their own goddamn franchises themselves, in house. It has bothered me in general that it has become a growing practice for Japanese studios to hand off their properties to other developers, especially Western developers, to make new games for.

I don't think there's much denying that when it comes to the BEST entries in Nintendo's main franchises (excluding ones that were always made by outside studios like Fire Emblem, Smash Bros. and Kirby), they have always been made by Nintendo, in house. Whether it's Mario, Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero, Wave Race, whatever. They used to develop most of their big franchises themselves. They've moved away from that, and I would really like to see them PERSONALLY develop a new 2D Metroid, a new proper Star Fox, a new F-Zero, a new Wave Race, etc.

You aren't, Retro hired some ex Vigil Games developers.

OT: Nintendo could get a few more studios (2-3) to work on genres their actual teams aren't used work with, but what they should do is hire more people to increase their actual teams to make the development time shorter.

The partnership with other 3rd parties is good as long as is profitable, but that is only a temporary patch, not a long term solution.

Please excuse my bad English.

And when Nintendo shows them how it's done, they take the baton and go with it. Even if that doesn't happen, consumers can still say, "Well at least we have [Nintendo's realistic racing sim] and [Nintendo's FPS] and [Nintendo's bloody bro-dude co-op TPS] and [Nintendo's other foray into satisfying a market it hasn't tapped]. They may not be Forza and Crysis, but we know they won't suck, because it's Nintendo. So we'll bite."

It wont happen cause then 3rd party will say we can't compete with Nintendo games.

So the best thing they can do is get people talking about bold italic statement

I would be happy to be one of those people who says that myself lol. This is why I also wish they kept a hold onto RAREs IPs even though it cost 400million. Cause they be a selling point for Nintendo consoles.

I want Nintendo to create a small studio that does not seem to be connected to Nintendo. They can bring out a ton of games with low production value that are exclusive to the system (stuff like Hyperdimension Neptunia etc.)

A studio that seems seperated/not connected to Nintendo so their reputation doesn't get damaged and they can produce more stuff like PushMo etc even if the new games are not that great they are least exclusives.

I mean I hate that most japanese RPGs end up on the PS3 why? It all started on Nintendo platforms so why do all the rpgs end up on Nintendo handhelds or Sony main consoles? Why not Wii and WiiU

And if those games exist they dont get localized I AM LOOKING AT YOUR EARTH SEEKER!

Unquestionably yes!

It did wonders for Sega in making the Megadrive competitive for example.

Also, since the western third parties mostly act like douchebags, Nintendo should open their own western studios.
Bergsala AB starting in-house game development would be epic.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Maybe buy a few other studios and all of their IPs. More Nintendo only games, the better.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

The obvious answer would be yes but making a studio is not that simple the same way making a bottle isn't just blow hot glass.

Last gen they made absurd profits and are just sitting on stacks of cash. Microsoft is a company with stacks of cash, so it created 343i, Black Tusk studios and more with the idea that they will have more games, I don't understand why Nintendo wouldn't do the same

I really don't see what else Nintendo is doing with all this money. Their current games sell ludicrous amounts so the only possible sensible business decision is to make more games! To me, the most sensible thing to do is not to make more Mario games, but to create all new franchises, some appealing to Western and some to Japanese gamers. They could do this either by starting new studios, or simply by expanding their current studios, doesn't really matter.

Their studios might not all create hits, but is is better to try and make more games than just sit on all their cash
