I don't care what your background is, how can people support this? I guess loyalty does wonders for companies and governments, no matter how wrong the cause is.

Why would I let something that has no negative impact on the way I play games bother me? I should refrain from buying an Xbone because little Timmy in rural Kentucky doesn't have stable internet and can't figure out how to go into his phone settings and tether it to his Xbone? I should turn away from some of my favourite game franchises like Halo and Forza because of DRM? I still buy movies and music and I don't fully own those either. As long as I can play and enjoy them that's what's important to me.

Well why should it be acceptable? I understand you like Xbox and i respect that. what i don't respect is that Microsoft or any company thinks they have the right to impose such things on all of us. What if the successor comes out to the Xbox One and Microsoft just turns off Xbox live for Xbox One, rendering all your games and your Xbox One utterly useless? Wouldn't that piss you off? Especially, if you wanted to go back and play them, not like you could sell them because of these measures. We don't know what Microsoft could do down the line. Although, i hope they don't do that. Also, enjoy your new system.

It should be acceptable because developers, artists, etc deserve to be paid for their work. How is it fair to someone who's putting a roof over the heads of their children with money made from developing video games to have one person buy their game and then pass it around to every friend they have so that they can all enjoy it for free? You don't think it's more fair that they should at least have to pay something for that privilege?

With all of the developers that have been losing money hand over fist for the last few years, how can you deny that used games/lending games might be a slight problem? And trust me, I hate to be the guy defending massive corporations, but I'm trying to look at the situation objectively. I like free stuff too, but I don't believe I am entitled to it at the expense of someone else.

The developers already get paid and they get paid decently. They are just getting greedy now. They should be grateful they get anything to be honest when less people can afford to buy their products. I mean what's wrong with lending to a friend? We share things you know, it's apart of human nature. I guess the rich have lost that part of their morals, if they have any left. You are saying about lending games, but how is that different to books, DVDs or music? People that work in those industries don't complain, do they? Piracy is more of an issue here, because that can reach 1000's of people instantly dealing lots of damage to a company. A group of friends is usually no more than 5 to 10 people, so is not the same. Also, Microsoft here is against 2nd hand games, which are not free by the way. And no they don't damage gaming companies, otherwise you might as well say Youtube is too and all those livestreaming websites where you can watch videogames being played for free are too. All these things spread awareness of these games and act as free marketing, which is surely not a bad thing. Don't you think the huge budgets for AAA games do more damage to developers? Since it's harder to make profit as many more copies must be sold to break even. That's fine for big and popular franchises like COD, FIFA or GTA but not a new ip or smaller franchise.

Also you never answered my question. Wouldn't it bother you if you couldn't play your Xbox One games anymore because the service got turned off?  Which would happen when the new system comes out, if we get that far.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Why do you care what someone else is going to buy? Does it offend you that some people are still going to buy Xbox One? You probably won't respond but I will await an answer.

If the Xbox One becomes a major success, it's anti-consumers policies will very likely become standards for all future consoles; that is why the decisions of individuals that will buy the Xbox One affects not only themselves, but ALL gamers.

On a side note, and in the mindset of this very serious psychological study, I wonder if same people who say ''I am rich, I don't care about anti-consumers policies'' are the same that would say ''I don't do anything illegal, I don't care if my government spies on me.'' Anyhow, it's seems to be the same logic.

But still, can't really blame people for buying the Xbox One if they are in love with Halo and Forza.

I understand there are merits to both sides of the argument. On the one hand, a lot of publishers are saying that the second-hand market is killing their margins because GameStop undercuts new game sales by selling used games for $5- 10 off the new price, days after a game's release.

I also know and understand that the second-hand market must exist for the sake of trading in old games that people no longer want, and simply being able to not have to buy every single game brand new, years after it's been commercially available.

It's a sticky wicket, for sure.

I think Microsoft is getting hit really hard on the PR side for their stance with the Xbox One, but we should all bear in mind that Activision and EA and Ubisoft and other publishers are the ones pressuring the console makers to take measure against used games. Publishers hate Gamestop. They see every used game sale at Gamestop as a lost sale for them, as they see no money from it once a game is sold the first time.

Sony is just lucky they held off on talking about DRM and such until they saw the reactions from Xbox One. It could easily have been Sony, had they talked first.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I think theres alot of confusion. Supporters of DRM try to evoke piracy as a reason, but its hardly the reason. Piracy became mostly irrelevant this gen. This is all about greed. They couldnt handle that retailers and consumers were having a good thing going and they werent part of it, even though they have no right to it.

I should point out I won't be buying an Xbox One (certainly at launch) but that isn't because of DRM.

It fundamentally won't effect me. Like many, I only buy new and like having a collection of games. In fact, I quite like the idea of being able to own physical copies but not have to use the disc, in the same way that I buy physical PC games then put the code into Steam and really like that. Always online is a bit of a pain as my internet isn't 100% stable, but should be fine

I do have concerns about being able to use these things a long time in the future, but I guess that could be said about almost everything I buy these days.
My main concern is that it damages the overall games market (as Sony will also do vaguely similar things with used games) and that will be bad for my favourite hobby

Same as many others already said.

I don't buy used games or sell mine.
I currently have my 360 not connected to the internet, because A I don't like playing online and B because it has no built in Wi-Fi. That's going to be a non issue with the Xbox One.
My PC is online 24/7, so when I start Steam it's always connected. I don't see how this should be an issue for any console.
Never experienced an internet outage in my life that took more than a day to solve and I've never experiences any kind of natural disasters either.
I've currently set Kinect to not turn on when I start my console and as far as we know that's possible with Kinect 2 as well.

So yeah I don't like all their decisions, but they honestly don't concern or bother me one bit.
I've also not decided if I get one and in case I do, when.

I'm poor and I don't care. I have no idea if I'll be getting an Xbox One in the future. I'll have to wait and see what games they'll be offering, but the DRM is largely a non issue for me, and buying used is starting to seem somewhat pointless to me. I used to buy everything used, but the times have changed. Retail game prices drop pretty quickly(Nintendo excepted) so I can just wait for the game to reach a price that's acceptable to me before spending my hard earned money on it. There'll be plenty of other, cheaper, games to hold me over while I wait.

Although I never loan out my games, it seems that family game sharing and game gifting somewhat take care of that issue, no?

1. I want to know the main profile/mindset of the people who are supporting/planning to buy the Xbox One anyway.

2. I won't respond to this in this topic to not flame and deviate from the main purpose of the poll.

always watched is wrong, microsoft stated that kinect can be paused and will do nothing then.

but the "i don't care" would be my answer. i don't support this idea but i have no prob with it. i am always online with my 360, i only sell my used games together with my console and never buy used games. swapping games with friends is something i did last time maybe 6 years ago and nowadays i just buy what i want. and the possibilities that 10 people i put in my family list can play my whole library even when i don't give them my disc is in my opinion not worse as the opportunity to swap games.

so yeah, it won't change anything for me and it will be maybe even better for me because i think two of my brothers will maybe buy an xb1 if i buy one so that we can all play the same games bought only once.

I'm all out for Xbox brand( former PS2 owner). But If I spend $400-500 on something you sure as hell I won't let anybody tell me what to do with it. It doesn't make sense in anybody's mind outside the software circle. If Xbox tank on its first year I hope they revise it so I can game it in my home country( islands) without the connection hassle.
