Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One Details: Clarification for the Haters

Are you happy with Microsoft's (and mine) clarifications?

Yes, no longer worried at all! 43 7.88%

Somewhat happy, but still could be better. 49 8.97%

Somewhat not happy, I ren... 37 6.78%

No, I still think Microsoft is evil! 417 76.37%

Its just too restrictive as a console and I am definitely not an Xbox hater since I'm in the Xbox republic and will continue to be in until my 360 dies. Having said that, if the PS4 is even half as restrictive as the Xbox One then it will have to be the WiiU for me next generation.

so 66% of the world population can't even use an xbox one

I know I'm in the vast minority on the internet, but these changes will be OK for me. I have a steady internet connection that rarely if ever goes down for more than a day, and I don't carry my console around to places where I can't or don't want to hook up to the internet. Renting, borrowing, and lending games is something that I rarely do with my 360, and I didn't expect that to change with the next generation, either. And I never sell them.

It should be noted that this isn't just restrictions; there ARE benefits to this new system. Having a digital copy of every game you own stored in the cloud means you don't need to carry discs around when you play on someone else's X1; more significantly IMO, you can still play your game EVEN IF YOUR DISC BREAKS. That's huge. I do my best to take care of my discs, but stuff still happens; I noticed a crack in one of my games just last week, and I didn't abuse the disc at all. It's in the middle of the disc now, but if it ever extends further outward, my game will be useless and I would have to buy another one. With Xbox One, I'd never have to worry about that again.

But for some people, that isn't a good tradeoff. Maybe renting/borrowing is too important for them to give up. Maybe they can't stomach the thought that they are buying game licences rather than games themselves (though I would point out that this is a common practice with computer software, including games on Steam, that people rarely complain about). Maybe they simply don't have any internet connection available to them. If the tradeoff isn't good for them, that's their decision, and I don't certainly don't see anything wrong with that.

One last thing worth mentioning; many of the things Microsoft is doing can be easily changed, because they aren't tied to hardware. Through updates they can easily do things like extend the time between online verifications or add a lending/borrowing/renting system, just to give a couple examples. It's clear that a lot of people are unhappy with these new policies, and if Microsoft feels they need to change them, they can. I'm not saying that you should expect them to change, nor am I expecting that you will trust that Microsoft will listen to you. I'm simply stating what is technically possible.

Nice job. Looks like Microsoft is good to go then.

As for family member accounts, that probably refers to accounts that are "at home" on your Xbox One. They can play your games on your console, otherwise it would be counter-productive to the entire idea of the DRM. Sharing one game across ten accounts on ten different consoles? Yeah... no.

Totally this. That whole points makes absolutely no sense.

(feel like agreeing with this since I've been silently disagreeing with a lot of your comments lately )

I voted somewhat happy, depending on how the used game/rental market turns out.

Some of the licensing features are really good for a console with PC-level DRM. The ability to gift games you have already played, trade games in, and have a 10 person game share type network are all great. MS is giving publishers the benefits of the DRM but also making some concessions for the gamers.

You can add up the total sales of Wii/PS3/360 and you get enough consoles for less than 4% of the world population. That means 96% of the world population either can't use consoles or DGAF about them.

If you seriously believed that these ridiculous "problems" and "solutions" will convince people then I'm deeply worried about your mental health and you should really see a doctor. Soon. Very, very, veeeery soon.

Luckily, I instead believe that you were actually just trolling.

not going to add anything to this because i had my mind made up about the next xbox way before this...
but i would like to say that i hate (oh the irony) the term hater, and talking to the fans of other companies like they are one person (all the same) is offensive, quit it...

4G mobile network goes up to 100Mbs in my country... in your cloud concern add lag (ping) and add to your solution that lag might not be of much importance because is about async game assets (even though good lag is a hell lot better and mobile networks still don't have that) ...

restrictions, restrictions, restrictions.

hate it or love thats what you get with the X1

so people who are not fond of MS's XB1 policies are haters now?

Sorry, I like to own my console...not be at the mercy of the company with a 24 hour "check-in"

Anyone who is not a lackey of a corporation putting out a gaming platform, and won't defend every single move they do to no end, OBVIOUSLY is a hater.  That is how the game works.  Individuals develop religious devotion to entities which are only interested in maximizing profits, and then will defend them to no end, out of their love.

It goes like this:
