Forums - Gaming - Microsoft cancels post-E3 roundtable.

Also noname, it mightve been misinterpreted, but I never meant to imply that ms could go without e3 at all, just that this decision foesnt make any difference in the grand scheme of things.

Anything MS does at e3 will not matter, as I said, because the sales power for this console wil come from the mainstream who are interested in the television functionality, which, as it happens, is what I'm most interested in....what made me think, "man, ms is going to kill it with this console" during the console reveal.

The mainstream gives no shits about e3 or gamescom or reviewers. They care about features that apply to them, and their venues are talk shows, not electronics shows, and they don't ask technical questions.

So you think the general public will spend several hundred dollars, plus an annual fee, to utilize features on their television that they're already paying for separately?

hmm, im not sure how youre portraying my argument, but i cant say it is being well interpreted here.

None of what i wrote precludes public awareness that xbox plays video games like halo, dance central, call of duty, etc.

Pretty sure wii fit made huge rounds on the talk circuit.

Regardless of the argument here, there is a lot of truth in the understanding that the mainstream gets its news from yahoo, cnet, and talk shows.

Im also pretty sure that what sold millions of dance centrals werent gamers watching e3.

A tv media box wouldnt sell to the mainstream, to answer your question, but a box that does all that and plays games (whatever they may be) could be a good selling point for moms and pops who are likely just as clueless about used games or drm.

That's not what noname is saying. He's criticizing the idea that someone buys something that does what their cable box will likely do, but costs them an extra $400 upfront investment plus $50/yr on top of whatever they're paying for cable or satellite already.

You're suggesting that these features make for the One's USP, putting it ahead of other consoles. What, however, is the underlying appeal?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Sounds like they're still working out the details of certain things that they know will be drilled. It's the right call.

Does Sony have one scheduled? I'd be very surprised if it wasn't cancelled to now.

Really? I'll bet you for sig control that Sony won't cancel. I've never done this before, but this is "kickboxer vs guy in wheelchair" odds in my eyes. Taaaaaaake the bet! :)

Mr. Khan has the right of it: I just don't see how the system's TV features will be at all compelling to the general public. It's basically TVii all over again, and demonstrably the general public doesn't much care about that.

If i may guess: They are still not sure what kind of DRM/online verification or second hand games restriction they are going to implement.

Perhaps they are hoping that Sony will then be the ones to answer the difficult questions, and then they take the heat. Trying to call Sony's hand to some extent, cause they know the media will then turn the same questions to Sony. If Sony have any brains they will have that already figured out and have some good answers.

On the buying games for E3 show floor, I don't believe that to be honest with you. Whats the point in throwing lots of money around to just hear Sony the next day go, yeah product A is on the PS4 also.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

I don't care about that as long as the press conference is good.

So now it looks like they're trying to hide something.

Not good Microsoft.

Re: Refresh my memory: what'd they do? (re Nintendo Wii U launch)

the 2 primary issues I have are:

making a big issue of unprecedented 3rd party partnerships - not only did it not happen- the 3rd party involvement in the wii u to date could not be worse- if Nintendo made even a modest effort to see more 3rd party involvement/games then we would have far more than what has transpired to date-

They announced a line up of launch game but waited until after the holiday sales season to disclose most of the key games would be delayed somewhere between 4-12 months and indefinitely. If anyone thinks Nintendo did not know how much effort/resources as a company they would put toward 3rd party relationships and they did not know those games would be seriously delayed until just after the holiday sales season then they would have to be naïve and/or in denial

many of us that purchased the wii u did so based on the general believe that Nintendo would make a good faith effort to follow through on their pre launch sales pitch- it is clear their Nintendo just did would it had to, to get a holiday sales season under wraps at the expense of those who purchased in good faith-

What I get from it: M$ doesnt want to tell us about thier console because we wouldnt buy it if we knew the truth and facts, if it wasnt anything to worry about it wouldnt be so secret, do they not know how it works? Spin it how you want. I want to want to buy a one with a ps4 but they are making it hard to like iit at all. I guess we have to buy it to find out what is in it? taking notes from failure obviously.
