Sounds like nothing is going accordin to plan over at Microsoft. So to sum it up
-Yield issues due to heat problems w/ ESRAM
-Started R&D very late, much later than Sony
-Change in leadership apparently didn't work very well
-Entertainment focus forced them to lock-in 8GB DDR3 early which also forced them to use ESRAM to make up for the RAM disadvantage
-GPU might be underclocked to try and improve yields
-Development tools aren't very mature either, they are behind Sony
-6 Months behind schedule
-PS4 reveal + 8GB GDDR5 caught them off-guard.
-Reveal UI/OS wasn't real-time. It was faked.

As a tech enthusiast, who would be excited for an Xbox One right now? If given a choice, I think most would pick the PS4.

There are a lot of people who never read these or other forums. I know my friends and fam who own X360 were all excited about X1 until I told them about the DRM. I haven't yet told them about this news.

There is more people on those foruns who have no idea what is EDRAM or GDDRAM or GPU yilds...

None of the news means any thing, even if we could check them. Well, I´m current working in a project that is 18 MONTHS behind schedule, and this is not anything unsual.

Those are vapor news, every single hardware/software developers face a lot of problems and uncertanties before a product was released. The Xbox 360 had several last-time designs chances and many issues carried over after the release. The RRoD was just one of them.

So... looks like the sram and low yields and many months behind rumors are ALL TRUE.

I'd stay away from launch day stock if I were you.

Or just buy the 3 year extended warranty and not worry about it.

And not woory about? And after the threyears? what a terrible attitude to have.

It's a small price to pay if you want something at launch.

My RROD happened almost in It's second year and I had a refurb afterwords. I ended up getting the slim a few years ago, it worked out well for me.

Either way I severely doubt MS is stupid enough to have another RROD fiasco.

It's just that simple.

Warranties are a waste of money. I was a commissioned sales person for Sears/Circuit City/Home Depot selling major appliances (and other electronics at CC) for well over 10years prior to becoming a software engineer.

Extended warranties are about 90% pure profit for companies for the single reason that they just about never get used.

Products will either fail in their first year or pretty much never and you get the first year covered for free.

It would be smarter to buy from Costco since they give you a 2nd year for free.

Never pay for extended warranties on anything. Waste of money and huge ripoff. Instead put that money in an interest earning savings account and on the rare time something actually breaks, use that built up cash to replace it as you see fit.

Well you said to stay away from launch stock, but if you want a system day one why not warranty it for another 3 years? The cost is $50, which will be lower then the scalping prices once the system sells out, and judging by low yields will be hard to find out. It's not a waste of money at all. Your also assuming I can turn that $50 into $400 with ease, I guess you should teach me something about investing outside of 401k and CDs. My CDS require a higher amount of investment.

Economies of scale.

Its not this one device you save the warranty money but ALL times you would buy warranties. That's hundreds if not thousands as you buy new stuff. Then out of 10 or so devices let's say you get unlucky and one finally breaks. Well, you should have a lot saved to rebuy.

$50 saved on gameconsole. $300 saved on fridge. $2000 on a car. etc. Save it all, earn residual income from it and have it for a real rainy day.

Also, if you think it will be likely broken in three years... then just don't buy it. For fuck's sake, grow some balls and tell MS "no, you will not except a product with another 30% defect rate".

Seems like some people are really happy about this :)

What was your longest periode without internet in the last 2 years?? How long it stayed offline?

Would you die if you couldn´t play a game for 2 or 3 hours?

Can´t you watch TV or read a book when internet is down?

Just asking...

I have not had internet at home at all for the past two years (four years actually).  So...the whole time?

No, games do not sustain life. However, not much point in buying them if you cannot play them.

I do not have television (as in programming) either.  I do read lots of books though, and go out often with a busy social and work life.

so...uh what does this mean?

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.

Glad I could help.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Why the hell should anyone thats spent $500 on a piece of electronics ever have to wait around for it to make itself workable. Its an entertainment device people use in there free time, some peoples free time is very limited, when called on to work it should just work.

The yield rumours are from last year on semi-accurate and given the size of the chip should come as no surprise. As for the underclocking of the GPU, this post on Gaf has one theory:

Don't know enough about chip development to know if this is true but it'll be interesting to find out if it's true or not.
