Forums - Sony - PS Eye may not be bundled with every PS4. Sold separately

Great i hardly use the current Playstation Eye as it is. But i expect a "basic" and "deluxe" version of PS4 now, similar to what Nintendo did with Wii U but with a far bigger hard drive

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Will be a seperate bundle with Move included.

Great idea. Keeps price down and doesnt force it on anyone who doesnt want it. It worked with the PS2 and PS3, will work with PS4.

As I've been saying. There's just no way Sony will not give you a choice here. It benefits everyone, Sony included (because of the entry price being lower).

What about selling the console by itself, and letting people choose whether they want a controller or a camera? That would lower the price even further.

Wouldn't you have to buy a controller anyway ?

Sony will make a big mistake if new PSeye does not bundle with every PS4, cause if not every PS4 owner have it will end up not much developers willing to utilize its features for their games, then it will be doom for sure since new kinect are bundle with every XboxONE...

if it were to sold seperately might as well stop this project cause it will end up being neglected like the PS3 motion games...

whoever says not going to pay extra $$$ for motion control gaming at all make sure you don't buy XboxONE... ok?

Good thinking on Sony's part. This among other reasons is why i love them and continue to support them.

It's sad that some people just can't seem to imagine a company listening to it's fans/customers! It happened last generation and is going to happen the upcoming one.

Not a bad choice if it is not required by the system. Plus i don't know where i'll put that thing. Either way i can't be sure until i know what it does. Something more than changing colours on the controllers.

Thank you jesus.

My number one concern has finally been put to rest. Not just for price which is a big point in and of itself, but also since this would mean they also won't be mandating it for normal system start-up and use, and the fact they can't very well force camera gimmicks on games that really have no good reason to have them this way.

I am happy with this news because I don't care about motion gaming whatsoever, but how will they do the whole controller light bar recognition without the PS Eye? Will it be detected by the console itself?

I suppose we will have to wait until E3 to find out.

Sony seem to suggest that is comes bundled
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-20-sony-announces-playstation-4

"PS4 will come with a new PlayStation 4 Eye camera in the box - similar to how Kinect 2.0 is expected to ship with the next Xbox. PS4 Eye will let users to log in via face recognition and allow the use of gamer's body movements or voices in games. It works using dual camera lenses to capture a better view of the gameplay space, and four microphones to accurately source who's speaking. A mono headset will also be included."

Not a direct quote, but certainly what their marketing is saying

A controller is required, a camera is not.

Depends on the end user. Looking at the XBO reveal, a person that just plays Kinect games could navigate menus and play all their games just fine without one.
