Forums - Nintendo - Potential 3DS Piracy Tool?

The 3DS had been "hacked" months ago, but nobody had marketed a flash cart like this. I recall seeing roundabout methods used by several groups, as well as a flash cart prototype that could load a single 3DS ROM.

It is entirely possible this is the real deal. Unfortunately if something this easy to use comes to market, piracy naturally would increase dramatically.

Actually I read that Nintendo released a firmware update that fixed the vulnerability.  I can't be bothered to look it up, but the people who hacked the system tweeted about it.

Um.....

Did R4 really hurt 3DS sales that much? Last I checked Pokemon, Mario, Dragon Quest, and Zelda all sold very very well.

I dunno if the Nintendo demograph is really affected much by piracy.

R4 killed DS software sales in Europe. By like a lot.

Maybe....Oh wait, F*** WOW!!!

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - 18.06 million WW, 4.31 million in Europe, 6.44 million in NA
Pokemon Black/White -----14.70 million WW, 0.58 million in Europe, 5.34 million in NA

Without Piracy, Pokemon would have probably grown with Pokemon Black/White, instead of shrink... How the heck did Black/White 2 outsell the original in Europe by exactly 2:1 (1.16 million)...was this game harder to pirate?

Well.... let's hope this isn't legit, I was really hoping to see Nintendo murder Sony in the handheld market.

Woah. I knew it was bad but not THAT bad. I wonder of the PSP is selling so well in Europe now because they ran out of DS games to pirate. Derp.

They have flash cards which run DS games on 3DS consoles, so people who know about piracy and who are still buying consoles probably just get a 3DS in hopes that a future flash card will play 3DS ROMS.

I dunno, I like R4 and piracy. It's because of R4 that I can play ASH and Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem on my DS (I did import the Japanese games to be fair though). It's because of EZ-Flash that I can play Earthbound 2 and Fire Emblem: Sealed Sword. If Nintendo localized every game that they publish in Japan, then I won't get a Piracy tool, but you know, even for Wii, it would have been real nice to be playing Pandora's Tower last year instead of now, where the hype has kinda died off...

Apparently this new tool wont disable region-lock though.  Mostly because all it does is make the 3DS think the cartridge is a legitimate cartridge but keeps the coding the same (and the ROMs are also relatively untouched, I believe).  Or so I read on the interwebz.

Then lets hope everything localizes......for now, with the exception of DQ VII (which I think will localize), it's looking good for me.

Nintendo needs to implement some kind of always online DRM fast to prevent this shit!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Is it a coincidence that the two most ''pirated'' videogame systems ever are also the two best selling... ever? Totally off topic but how much would have Nintendo DS and PS2 sold if piracy didn't exist?

The Playstation, Nintendo Wii, Playstation Portable, X-Box 360, and to an extent GBA and PS3 were also easy to hack. Gameboy/Gameboy Colour is the only there which wasn't heavily pirated, but it had a lifespan of 12 years...so....yea.

Wow, one memory-card per game? What's this, a second vita?! No, jk ;)
Well, it seems that it is real but once it is released expect clones which will give you browsers to select games from sd-card. And instantly, 3ds gets interesting for me...
