Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft offers to buy Yahoo

wow alot of money, though google is alot more powerful.

You know what's funny is that Microsoft, or Sony for that matter, could have bought Nintendo for less than $10 billion dollars five years ago.

Another thing interesting fact is that the purchase price of Yahoo is only $2 billion less than the current market cap of Sony.

HOLY CRAP!!!

I knew MS had money, but DAMN!!!

yes.. even im shocked at this number... a buy out like this WOULD HAVE TO put MicroSoft into the red for a while.

ah no, its just changes the cashflow, not the earnings :o)

Everyone Else 16.7%

and ssj12, didn't we cover this in detail like 6 months ago? gotta learn from these forums man.

actually it can be considered a monopoly when you look at the fact they are trying to control the entire computer market from software to the internet and now starting in the electronics market.

well, if only "trying to control" translates into monopoly this automatically.

Aside from hindsight being 20/20, I'm not sure there would have been an incentive back then- except maybe  the rights to Mario.

There were more than a few rumors about Apple or Sony buying out Nintendo a few years ago. For Sony the advantage would have been pretty obvious, eliminating a competitor and gaining the best IP in the industry.

Microsoft has tried to buy Sega and Square and both refused so it's pretty doubtful that Nintendo would have allowed itself to be bought even back in 2004/2005.
