I just say this on yahoo, i was like holy shit MS could of bought Nintendo, the gaming wars could of been over
Right now, I think Nintendo is worth either more or just as much as Sony.

Sony is worth at least quadruple Nintendo... so no.

Um no... Nintendo's market value surpassed Sony some time ago. Whether or not it remains so I don't know.

market value and overall company value/cash on hand are two different things.

That still doesn't change the fact that Nintendo is a more valuable company than Sony. So in my reply to Griffin's post, if MS considers buying Nintendo, they might as well buy Sony instead implying an impossible task.

Google has been making a move on MS's bread and butter lately... that is MS Office.

Google Doc's isn't really ready for prime time yet, but MS sees the problem and is probably trying to get into a position to be able to compete with distributed 'office' applications.

While Sony has more assets... Nintendo has more Market Cap then Sony. Which to my knowledge is how one buys a company.

Therefore it would be more expensive to aquire Nintendo then Sony. (To my knowledge anyway.)

That's why companys with low market cap yet high physical assets are routinley aquired to be stripped of their physical assets.

OMG...... they are giving 44 billion for Yahoo??

why not giving a billion to me as well??? :p

You buy a company by purchasing their stock, not the assets. The market cap is the total sum of the stock value, so in effect is their purchase price, although that goes up as buying interest increases. Bottom line, Nintendo would cost far more to purchase than Sony. Just like Google is worth 10x more than GM, despite GM having boatloads more physical assets and 20x the revenue.

According to current market data:

Market Cap (Millions)
Sony: 4,810,858.000
Nintendo: 7,494,290.000

So Nintendo is worth just over 1.5x more than Sony.

Holy S*** I was trying to find that data to back up my claim.

All I knew was that Nintendo surpassed Sony but by that much? LOL

Microsoft certainly feels like they need to dominate every single industry. If you can't beat them, buy them. I guess they need to do something with all that money they are sitting on.

Does anyone still use Yahoo as their primary search engine?
I think the fact that "google" is a verb in common usage (haven't checked Websters to see if it is officaly) indicates how well things are going for yahoo.

Sony's going to fall quite a bit today, so expect their market cap to be substantially lower.
