thatgamecompany’s Flower Headed to Vita

Journey developer thatgamecompany has confirmed that Flower is headed to PlayStation Vita. The announcement comes via a list of games that will appear at the IndieCade booth at E3 this year, and confirms that the game will feature new controls to take advantage of Sony’s portable.

“Using simple touch or motion controls, the player guides the lead petal and accumulates a swarm of flower petals as he moves at his own pace within the environment, causing the on-screen world to change,” the announcement reads. “Flower's gameplay offers different experiences, pacing and rhythm to all players. Along the way, the environment will pose challenges to the player’s progress.”

Flower was originally released in 2009for PlayStation Network and was re-released on disc as part of a thatgamecompany collection last year. As described by IndieCade, “playing as the wind, the player guides and grows a swarm of petals by interacting with other flowers and the surrounding environment.”

Back in February, creator Jenova Chentold IGN the studio is open to Vita ports, explaining that “we made those games to make people enjoy something and hopefully change their life. I wish they could be played by as many people as possible. If that happens to be a Vita port, I’ll totally support it. Except if the port is not good. A lot of people who played flOw in China played the ported version of the game because the PSP is available, but not PS3. The graphics are way worse, you know? And the control doesn’t use the tilt. It’s a stick control. It’s not the experience we had on PS3, so it’s not really our game anymore. It’s some other game.”
