Could 3'rd part devs force Sony into stopping used game sales?

Yes 9 60.00%

Do you guys think that 3'rd party publishers like EA and Activision would threaten Sony to go exclusive, at least temporarily/indefinetly, if Sony didn't curtail used game sales like the Xbone?

Regardless of your answer, if you assumed that they did, do you think they have any leverage?

My take:

1) Ultimately, it's in EA and Activision's interest to not have the PS4 drop out

2) Going full exclusive with major series like sports games, CoD, etc would probably mean the end of the PS4

3) EA and Activision have already thrown in exclusive DLC for the Xbone.

Therefore, if this was a game of chicken, I think Sony should ultimately call a bluff and not have measures to stop used game sales.

Another side question I have is what could retailers that sell used games do to help Sony? Who would those players be (e.g. does Best Buy like measures against used game sales? What about Amazon?) How far do you think they'll go, and how helpful do you think it'll be for Sony and PS4?

Sony's main audience is gamers. Gamers will put pressure on the industry to have the measures removed, so Sony and gamers win against 3rd parties in the end, I believe.

It's my understanding that this will help Sony and gamers realize that bending over for 3rd parties is going sour and is not always the right way to go, having them incline towards Nintendo's philosophy ever so slightly and lay off the big N for taking a stand.

They could, of course, but I don't think it will come to that. I'm getting the very strong impression from everything Sony has said so far that they will take no official stance on the issue and let publishers do whatever they want to do to fight used games on the PS4. Which will be both better and worse than if they just did what MS is doing; arguably worse, because it will mean PS4 owners will have to convince every single publisher to stop doing this shit instead of just the platform holder.

I just wonder how this will shake out in Japan where used games are such a huge thing. For starters, it obviously means that the Bone is going to be even deader than it already was. But the spillover of this shit policy could mean that the Playstation suffers there as well, setting the whole country up for TOTAL NINTENDOMINATION RARRRRRRR!

Like you guys did with all the petitions against losing eclusivity to some games? Or when you guys decided to boycott Simcity 5?

Multi-plats generally sells better on Xbox360. Sony needs third parties way more than Nintendo. Because Nintendo first party games sell very well opposed to Sony's. And in Japan Nintendo is the king, without greedy Western  developers. Sony cannot go on a drought of 3rd party like Nintendo did since the launch of WiiU.

How? By complaining on the internet? How did Sim City boycotts turn out relative to its sales? Most of the time, we complaina nd complain, but more still end up buying regardless.

If times are a changin, if 3rd parties force MS and Sony to adopt a new way, then we are gonna deal with it. Unless we take radical action, like im talking actual terrorism, there won't be any changes if it means less money for them (3rd parties).

No offense here, just saying my bit on a controversal subject.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

So you remember when Apple tried putting DRM measures in their products and the people said "No"? I understand that the players in the gaming industry see us as whiny shitfaces (and I don't completely blame them), but there comes a point where speaking with your wallet can hurt the bottom line and steer the industry afterall.

Only if they have the power to force sony in makinginternet connection mandatory.... and they dont. Sony cant do this even if they wanted. r

If Sony's strategy nets more profit for retail chains in regards to 2nd hand sales then 3rd parties will have to attempt to bully both Sony and retailers.

That is a fight they cannot win since they are reliant on both.

It's MS that's going to suffer on the content end because of this, don't kid yourself. Gamers will not want to support a console with anti-consumerist policies, and if Sony follows their path their fanbase will cause such a riot you will not hear the end of it.

I don't believe gamers are that unified. It's  just a fraction of the 300 million according to this gen sales.
