Both reveals were underwhelming. I did get the feeling Sony showed more games but that also may be due to the fact I skipped over the EA Sports and Call of Duty sections of the Xbox One reveal.

As for the people who were MS were actually trying to appeal to at their conference...none of them were actually watching. Gamers had to watch a show that was not meant to them. At least they got it out of the way because this is what MS E3 has been for the past three years. As for my assumptions about MS games, I am going off of prior knowledge of what MS finds to be important. Kinect> Cheap development> AAA titles. |
Also the Killzone Shadowfall demo was being played in real time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGlu3e9kdks
and guerilla games even went in-depth as to how much RAM the game was using and how it wasn't even polished and not using the PS4's full potential, meanwhile the Xbox showed CGI.
The PS4 reveal was better because they showed us actual gameplay, impovement, promise, specs, and left us something to look forward too. Xbox One showed us Kinect, Sports, CGI trailers of games, and CoD....not really hard to see why most of PS4's reception was positive and only die-hards are defending Microsoft.
| VGKing said: Why do people keep forgetting that Sony showed off Watch Dogs? That was definitely one of the highlights for me. That being said, Sony's conference wasn't amazing. In fact it was a little too long and had a little bit too much tech demos. It was gamer focused though, Sony knew who would be watching the reveal so they catered to them. Microsoft knew the same people would be watching their reveal, yet they did their best to disappoint gamers. We went half-way through the show without a single game being shown or even announced. Then the games they did show were some sort of sizzle real from EA Sports combined with buzz words such as "realistic", "experiences" and "content" and the obvious such as next-gen games will have better animation and graphics.(duh!) Quantum Break was the only surprise at the event, although it looks like some sort of Tv Show/Game hybrid which is weird. Forza 5 reveal wasn't impressive. It was expected, it didn't look next-gen and anyone would believe it if you told them it was coming to 360. Call of Duty's new engine didn't look impressive, we've seen current-gen games that look better than that, at least on a graphical level. Without any real gameplay demonstrations, it didn't leave a strong impression. |
Just wanna say that PGR5 was expected and Forza 5 wasn't expected to be a launch title. You can really tell the fanbase inquality when GT6 gets unviersal praise and hype, and Forza 5 reveal is dismissed. Sigh.
"To me its clear MS focused on mass market and did a better job selling to them than Sony did." And therein lies the problem, MS are taking a route that forum goers and nerds all over aren't supporting. Sony are doing the same but to a lesser extent (their "Share" button bullshit, for instance) but MS are going all out with their non-gaming features. Their license fees, restrictions and overall consumer hostile models aren't going to please gamers either, there are a lot of poor choices in the design.
Lastly, being forced to buy Kinect and turning it on, and who knows, maybe using it every time you use your Xbox One is a bit over the top in my opinion.
There are no games or TV shows that could cover up all that. I'm not surprised though, it was in the cards all along, I even expected them to go one step further than they did. For me, it's crystal clear; I will most likely not purchase a console in the 8th generation, which will be the first gen I skip since the late 80's when I started gaming. The big three have shown me nothing but bullcrap, gimmicks and overrides and pure online focus, my PC will serve me well enough in the years to come.

"None of their demos were actually in game demo, they were in engine cinematics" same with sony ps4 reveal. The only actual in game gameplay footage was Killzone 4 and knack. Cod did show in game graphics .Activision said it . Forza 4 trailer looked plausible . But then what i am trying to say is that neither actually showed in game graphics taht we as gamers will get to see and control. They were all just fancy trailes and tech demos. Only a small handful of actual gameplay footage were shown from wither companies. Well thats fine. You are entitled to an opinion but its not fact as opinion does not equal fact. There wer eplenty watching online and people like me as true gamers will just buy all of them and get th ebest of all three worlds :)

I know MS message was not for me, it was for the media outlets to get their message to the Casual/Core who might read something on yahoo news about the reveal. However this is what I say on yahoo. http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/xbox-one-play-used-games-questions-linger-213743272.html So how good did their message get out there? |
How do you definition of hardcore? because i can asure you that your definition of hardcore is different to my definiton and so on. Again your opinion is not fact . know th edifference .
I didnt find it amazing but it was wayyy better than the Xbox one, maybe if you are from the US you would like it more, here in mexico handegg is not popular and the number of houses who have a cable box is minuscule
| arcane_chaos said: yes, yes your are :p but all seriousness the MS was very underwhelming, nearly half of their show was them talking about Kinect and all their TV services, I don't think their was one live stage demo...I know people saying wait until E3 but they could've set the tone leading to E3 better. the only plus Ill give them is that they actually showed their console |
While I agree with you regarding the Live TV service, I disagree with you regarding Kinect. I think Microsoft HAS to show off the technology and how much better it is than the original, because it is significantly better than the original.
That being said, I would have preferred to see the Architectual Panel as a part of the main presentation, where the press were able to directly pose questions to the panel. Getting various people asking various people within Microsoft questions about the console and having multiple answers come back didn't do anything positive for the launch.
While I like both games well enough, it makes me laugh that people are basing Sony awsomeness on Killzone and InFamous. Both franchises DECLINED substantially in sales from their previous installments, despite much bigger install bases for the latest chapters. They sold 4 million COMBINED betwee KZ3 and inFamous 2. Like Kinect Sports 2 + Kinect:Disneyland Adventures were more successful pair of sequels than KZ3 + inFamous2, sales-wise. And nobody is touting Kinect games as the reason to adopt Xbox One. (And I'll still argue core gamers are underestimating the selling point of Kinect to moms and kids over the scary adult land of PS4.)
And yet this is what is going to drive early adoption? KZ4 and InFamous:SS?
There are arguments to be made for PS4's advantages. These two franchises are NOT it.
