Forums - Microsoft - I want to see Gamestop, Redbox, Gamefly and other rental and used services responses to Xbox One.

How I see it: Game is tied to your account. You can untie it so you can bring it back. Gamestore uses new system to put another code on it and that system will give some money to devs depending how old the game is. In the end used games will rise like 5 euros or so in price. This isn't really so bad

Gamers pay double. They pay Gamestop then they pay  Microsoft. I dont see how they wouldnt in this instance. If Gamestop doesn't retaliate something is up  because MS is really wrecking shit.

Wouldn't work. You need to know that the orginal code, there is a disc code burnt onto each and every single game, isn't being used anymore. And really is one heck of a convuluted mess anyway you cut it, for anything they do. My guess is if they go this route they give the power to gamestop to put the game into a machine and the machine will forcibly remove the game from the account it is bound to using the on disc code. Then gamestop is free to sell the game at full price again, and the old player will only get a pitance back from the returned game.

So this discs will be treated as nothing more then those prepaid cards people use to add funds to their accounts.

Well, since I am buying a PS4, if Sony pulls something similar, I would be pretty pissed. I like my gamefly subscription. It has introduced to a lot of great franchises and games that I would not have been able to play due to my own budget. I would still buy a PS4 but I would probably only use gamefly for my PS3. I would not give Sony or MS (if I happen to ever get the Xbox one) a single cent for the used games blocks, they can go fuck themselves cause that is some serious horse shit way to go about treating the customer.

I hope, I hope, I HOPE MS does not start a fucking trend with that charge fee bullshit or 24-hour required connect. Like I need another reason to dislike the xbox brand.

It's also complicated as fk.

People whine about friend codes, imagine the hassle of trying to trade in a lot of your games at once and having to dig up the codes for each game and then plugging them in. After that you can type in each code then you can trade in the code to gamestop.

I presented away this would work. There is an unique code burnt and encoded into each different game, and this is what is bound to your account. When someone returns a used game, Gamestop will have a machine from Microsoft where they put it in, the machine extracts the code sends it to Microsoft and Microsoft removes the game from the account it is bound to. The gamer gets a pitance for the game they return and Microsoft can keep track of the games Gamestop resells and sends Gamestop a invoice for the resale fee, and Gamestop can resell the game at full price, like they did back in the day.

The rental thing is a little stickier. But I guess the code can indicate that it is from a retal business and allow you to install and play it for a certin number of days once that is up the player would have to buy it or return the game.

Given the facts that have been provided, it makes sense if you think about it. You obviously pay the Gamestop used fee and then you pay the Xbox One used game fee. New games only or you're fee locked anywhere you go unless you use your specific account.

We have Ben V for Gamestop. I wonder if we have anyone who works for Redbox or another place?

Redbox is a vending machine where I live thats in general areas like Supermarks where you can rent DVD's and games. Xbox has the most supported games on Redbox in America, so this is really going to hurt them. Its meant for people who live in the neighborhood. You return the game or movie to redbox based on the specified time you're allowed to rent the game.
