So what exactly can MS claim that makes it seem like they won?

30 months in a row on top in America = won the generation?

The console of choice for the biggest franchise out there = won?

Mindshare.

Xbox wasnt even a contender last gen.  Now it is the main contender.

There is no denying that if they play this right the 1st and 3rd biggest markets could be sewn up.  Xbox has replaced playstation as the generic term in the US and UK.

That's a very interesting metric: mindshare. I like it. Is it true that mindshare is not proportional to marketshare? Wouldn't it be true that the gain in marketshare is proportional to the gain in mindshare?

Well wii shouldn't be considered a current gen console, so currently 360 is number 1

LOL

It sold less than the Wii, and was outshipped by a console that came out even later (PS3) Today both the PS3 & Wii have a more expansive library of A list exclusives. 360 hasn't even come close to winning. The only way i guess you can say it won was with timed Call of Duty exclusive content. I still hold the belief most of Microsofts shipments came from RROD'd 360's. It was their plan all along, thats why they shipped them defected.

It was their plan to lose hundreds of millions if not billions of $?

Molyneux's wishful thinking : PS3 just passed 360 in WW sales, it sells more games, dominates in more countries, currently sells more HW & SW, has more exclusives. Sony clearly wins... again!

"Mindshare" is kind of BS in this case. And to answer bolded not really since PS is undoubtedly more well known in the UK despite more people owning a 360. And as someone in the UK the only generic term I've ever heard is "Nintendo"(excluding "game machine" etc.). Anyone I've ever heard say "Xbox" was referring specifically to an Xbox or 360 or kinect. Consoles sell far more on games, quality, advertising and price than on what people bought last gen. And now I think a good launch is more important than ever since gaming is more "connected" than ever, it's one of the major reasons why 360's early launch was so important for it.

EL
OH
EL

As the kids like to say.

Can't really agree with this...

Profit and sales numbers - Nintendo wins.
HW numbers - They're second and about to be 3rd.

I don't get this weird "control of the living room" spin either. PS3 and 360 are pretty much on par in this respect.

"Microsoft Can Claim It Won The Last Console Generation - Molyneux"

It's about to become 3rd (last) on this generation, that's not a win in my opinion. And it's funny how Molyneux refers to "Last Console Generation" as if it was already over. Last generation, Microsoft was 2nd, far behind Sony's PS2.
