Mindshare.

Xbox wasnt even a contender last gen.  Now it is the main contender.

There is no denying that if they play this right the 1st and 3rd biggest markets could be sewn up.  Xbox has replaced playstation as the generic term in the US and UK.

That's a very interesting metric: mindshare. I like it. Is it true that mindshare is not proportional to marketshare? Wouldn't it be true that the gain in marketshare is proportional to the gain in mindshare?

"Mindshare" is kind of BS in this case. And to answer bolded not really since PS is undoubtedly more well known in the UK despite more people owning a 360. And as someone in the UK the only generic term I've ever heard is "Nintendo"(excluding "game machine" etc.). Anyone I've ever heard say "Xbox" was referring specifically to an Xbox or 360 or kinect. Consoles sell far more on games, quality, advertising and price than on what people bought last gen. And now I think a good launch is more important than ever since gaming is more "connected" than ever, it's one of the major reasons why 360's early launch was so important for it.
