The first half of this year for Nintendo's home consoles will be abslutely horrendous, but the second half looks somewhat promising so hopefully things will change.

Now that I think of it, they are even more comparable than I thought :O

PS2 = NDS - both sold over 150 mil
PSX = GB/GBC - both sold over 100 mil
PS3 = GBA - both sold over 75 mil

I wonder how the PS4/3DS sales will be like in the next few years.

so we can say at least 32mil for PS4 :)

I don't buy that, even VGChartz couldn't sell that to me. The PSP has risen from the dead outselling the Vita. And both numbers don't add up. The PS2 outselling the DS again while the Wii U total stays the same for weeks. Nintendo has said they sold over 3 million as of January 2013. Xbox360 leading buy a miilion, then all of a sudden by a 100 thousand.

Why does it have something to do with WiiU then? 

It's 2 vs. 2 - the entire Nintendo console brand vs. the entire Sony portable brand. Otherwise I'd just be cherry picking to make one console look good.

I meant all Wii's, Wii U included.

It's not a case of PSP "rising from the dead" or the PS360 gap instantly closing from around a million.

The VGChartz numbers are estimates.  We know those estimates were wrong based on more reliable sources we were given (Nintendo's Europe figures; shipment figures from Sony/Microsoft etc.)  The numbers were updated accordingly.

So, for example, PSP didn't suddenly go from selling 1k/week in Europe to selling 20k/week.  It was always selling 20k a week but we were tracking it wrong.

So all comparisons are now attacks, only because they show something Nintendo being below something not Nintendo? 

I didn't even write much text in the OP for that very reason, because I thought some might dislike what I had to say. So, I decided to allow the forum goers to discuss this without me influencing the results. 

It's a simple comparison of handhelds and consoles. Not the end of the world, nor is it an attack on Nintendo.

I wasnt aware this was your own comparison (thought it was another one of those nasty articles) but i have to say...

How is this any way to compare anything? This is portables on Sony vs home consoles on Nintendo. They are not after the same customers, they arent competitiors. This comparison makes no sense except as an attack.

If its not what you meant, im glad it wasnt, but thats what it comes across as.

Compare sony portables to Nintendo or other brand portables. Compare home consoles to other home consoles. This is like saying portables TV's sell better than notebooks. It doesnt make sense.

Was maybe your intention to say that Sony portales arent selling that bad? I'm sure there are better ways to make that case.

Why would you do something like that, the PS3 did have to find its market the same way as the Wii U. You comparing a 7 year console that found its market with a 6 month console that's still trying to find its market. Sony selling PS3 is not good for PS4. I should compare the GBA with the Vita but that wouldn't be fair either.
