| pezus said: It's really something how GT games defy gravity though. GT5 sold and shipped more in 2012 (third calendar year) than 2011 (second calendar year - first full year). |
or maybe it's advertisement and not defying gravity. would be crazy money wasting if the game wouldn't sell anymore when it is still advertised every weekend in some race series.
it will with a ps4 release. without, no clue...
btw thread nr. 20 now with gt vs. halo?
i am a big fan of GT but my answer is NO... will be very happy if tops 8 millions in PS3, if it does come out in PS4, that would be a completely different situation...

well, that's why it sold some millions in the first weeks like other big games as well. it's not as if halo would sell so much the first weeks without huge ad campaigns. halo would also sell much less, the difference is that halo only get's much advertisement around the release, that does increase the first week sales a lot but doesn't really do much for the legs. gt has maybe less ads at release but therefore the continuous ads.
people really have to watch more motorsports to see how much gt advertisement there still is. that has to cost millions so it would be horrible if the game wouldn't sell a lot of units years after release. and they have the gt academy they show on tv. here in germany we had it on two different channels last year (rtl and eurosport) and maybe we still have and the next seaons is already announced. that's huge advertisement years after release of the game.
i think it has so crazy legs because of advertisement, that's what advertisement is for, to increase the sales and it's absolutely legitimate. it's just not "defying gravity"
and sales should slow down little bit but last year it had a new release so that also helped. people still buy consoles and those couldn't buy the game before.
another good example is fifa, i see fifa ads every weekend when i watch the german football league on sky. every week. i really don't wonder that fifa has good legs here but they kill the sales with the yearly releases.
ON PS3 alone. I doubt it. It will be happy if it make 8 million lifetime. Next gen racers will imho hurt this game as everyone will compare it to RACING GAMES ON NEXT GEN SYSTEMS.
Halo 4 has had a great and successful headstart... Doubtful for GT6. Is GT6 a really new game or is it "everything what GT5 did + more"? I didn't read that much of it by now. But still...

Wasn't it bundled quite extensively in 2012? That would certainly explain why it shipped more in 2012 as opposed to 2011. I can't think of any games that sold better in their third year than the second without bundling.
OT: Halo 4 started out fantastically and if it keeps selling tracking above Halo 3/Reach's numbers I think it would outsell GT6. However, I think the new generation will cut Halo 4's legs off a bit (not to mention I think it will start tracking under Halo 3's numbers within a month or two). So I think GT6 will sell better.
GT5 was a great game and its legs prove it. However there were a lot of things that people wanted it to do and it simply didn't do that. So that gives GT6 a chance to improve on that aspect. GT5 was also delayed multiple times so that affected its launch sales negatively as well. If GT6 is released when planned and has a ton of marketing like GT5 did it could have a first week of 3 million + easily. I don't expect GT6 to sell as well as GT5 but it will sell better than Halo Reach or Halo 4 in my opinion.
