Forums - Nintendo - Wii U downloads are really that slow?

Mine were horrendous. However, with the last update they sped up and I expect it to continue to get better. I think it had a lot to do with code within the OS and probably how their server farms worked/located.

Is the difference big? I had the same problems (with my brothers wiiu) you have/had.

I have run the update but haven´t really checked anything improved with it.

Now the world is weird  and people take Prozac  to make it normal.

People shouldn't have to buy extras such as external hardrives to take advantage of the product they spent hundreds on. But if it's no problem for the OP then more power to him

Yeah just like PS3 did it well when it was "new" (20, 40, 60, 80 and forced installs). And the PSV is even better with its memory.

This is like saying "I will never buy an iPhone because I don't want Apple to watch me -- I will get an Android instead!!" lol

Lol, answer that one Max.....

Nothing to answer.... Sonys system had 20gig and 60gig... 20 gig is over twice the size of 8 and 60 gig is about twice the size of 32... 20gig is rather low and served a short life. the 60gig droped price in  less than a year and is sufficient in DD only...

Limited space is a legit concern if someone is interested in DD only. The people saying anything about Ps3 are really stretching. 360 however, only had a 20gig at first. And my point stands with that too. I wouldn't expect anyone to pay more to take advantage of the hardware. But that design just seemed like an oversight from MS not expecting the downloads to be so popular so quickly and they rectified it. Nintendo has no excuse. DD has been popular since they launched Wii U. Its just a poor design/choice by Nintendo especially after they said they were serious this gen.

Also, I never said I wouldn't buy a Wii U... that's just further proof of oversensitvity blinding people

I will:

Are you really comparing the hard drives of 6,7 years ago to the hard drives of today? I think I had a 100GB hard drive in my PC back then. I now have several 2TB ones.

And forced installs weren't the norm either, but if they were most of them were small. There was the occasional 4-5GB one but if your hard drive filled up with installs you could always delete the ones you've stopped playing and install them back when you want to play again.

Nobody mentioned PSV, not sure what it has to do with this. I personally think their method of charging for memory cards seperately is bad.

The funny thing is by these peoples reactions you would think I said not to buy a Wii U because it sucks or something (or I killed their children). But all I said is Wii U doesn't have the space for a DD only system. The easy solution is to simply by physical copies lol. Which is what I would have suggested but the OP already said he is aware and bought an external HD for extra storage. And I've already said that is an acceptable answer for him but you shouldn't expect other to. These people are ridiculously over sensitive. By them pbringing up anything other the Wii U they are going off topic and are really just stretching

Anyone who plans on doing a lot of downloads should get the deluxe package. Not for the 32gig, but for the 10% cash back.

He can't really answer that. He made a mistake by posting in this thread without further thoughts of what could be answered to him. I guess we won't see him again in this thread and even if, he will try do evade somehow. This doesn't mean the memory-solution for WiiU is good but Sony's isn't good in some systems in any way either.

Hi! ...Oh? Sorry, I HAD TO SLEEP AT 2 AM! I wasn't aware I was expected to answer people really stretching at the drop of a hat.

BTW - bold answers your own posts mighty well.

I don't think people were complaining about download speeds, it just seems that the WiFi signal is not the strongest, so it probably needs to be rather close to your router.

Nope. It was download speeds only while downloading content from eShop. Browser, netflix, hulu, etc were all perfect. However, as I mentioned it seems to have been largely rectified by the last update. Everything seems normal now.

Yep. Seems to have been significantly improved.

And useless, unused and overpriced hardrive space is a legit concern for those not interested in DD only. So, who are you going to please? Yep, the majority.

Can this discussion be over now?

first of all this discussion isnt about any of that. its irrelevant to bring it up. secondly hds are a fraction of the cost and hardly makes the console more expensive. they are cheap. last, youd be surprised how much space gets used. I have a 120gig right now but before that i had a 60gig launch model. i think 10gigs are unusable and i almost filled that up... and i dont download any extra content and barely buy any psn games and delete old save files and installs when im done with a game.
