(Personally it bugs me that so many of the Mii's lack arms! Ok, forgivable on the Wii cause it didn't have the power, but the new HD one should have friggin' arms!)

Miis were inspired by Koteshi dolls, a kind of traditional japanese doll mad of wood that doesn´t have arms, just body and head. That´s why Miis don´t have arms.
They´d should have imagined, though, that this idea would sound weird for westerners

Ah, thank you for explaining that.  I thought they were just really lazy.  (Like the guy who animated Rayman hated drawing arms- but one person can get away with it.  But if others copy it, just seems like a cop out. )

I like animae and like to know about all sorts of cultures, includding the Japanese, but didn't know that.

And picture for referance:

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

from what i remember wedbush is rarely all that close to actual NPD numbers.

That and I'd be more intrested too in what the 360 and PS3 did at these points in time.

Comparing it to the Wii at this point is silly.

At this point in time people were comparing the PS3 to the Dreamcast and Gamecube... not the PS2.

In other words, it was a fad which died very quickly.

If you consider 3-4 years to be "quick", then sure.

Fairly quick when you consider the longevity of PS consoles.

and a pretty normal lifespan for a nintendo home console

None of the other Nintendo systems rose so high though. And wow, that's a really short lifespan. Maybe Nintendo should stop making consoles and focus on handhelds.

the drop was fast true, but they always have a 5 year life span for consoles. its their bussines strategy, and it worked out perfectly with the Wii. yeah yeah nintendo should stop making consoles, nintendo should stop making hardware and go third party, heard all of it before. how about they just quit the gaming indusrty and go into the home cleaning industry? i mean they are just making a lot of money with video games. why the hell should they continue?

I don't think a big sales drop 2 years before your next system launches is a marketing strategy.

And why would they quit the industry? Their handhelds sell well. It's only their consoles that don't (unless they can fluke it like with the WiiU).

Actually it's only really the GameCube (and the N64 to a lesser extent) which sold relatively poorly, but still made Nintendo plenty of profit.

The N64 sold 33M. Yeah, that's bad for a console. At 40M, I don't think the NES did great either but that was before the PS came out and brought gaming out of the "toy" category.

Well yeah, exactly. Playstation had its time in the spotlight in the PS1/PS2 era, and it just decimated the competition (so Sega, Microsoft and Nintendo all looked to be doing poorly in comparison), but when you compare the other Nintendo consoles, you see that they're always the best selling console, before the Sony era that is. So you can only judge success on how you do relatively to other people. So doing 70mil this gen would be considered "poor", but doing that a decade ago would be a great success.

As such, only the Gamecube underperformed, and the N64 was right on the verge.

Well, if you want to compare within gens, the N64 sold less than 30% of what the PS sold so it's safe to say it underperformed.

The Wii did well thanks to the casuals (it'll still finish 2nd this gen though).

Wii did cause of casuals and PS and PS2 not youre daydreaming at best my friend

Exactly, PS1 was kinda the Wii of its time. It opened up gaming to a new market, before PS1 gaming eas thought of  as being only for kids and geeks but with PS1 gaming became more mainstream sort of the same way Wii brought in non gamers. PS2 cpntinued that by making consoles have multimedia functions like dvd playback which brought more non gamers to consoles.

What casual PS or PS2 games sold as highly as WiiFit, Wii Sports, Wii Music, Wii Play, Just Dance, etc?

What core PS or PS2 games sold as highly as those?

What core or casual games on any system ever?

PS2 owes a large amount of its market dominance to DVD compatibility. Brilliant move by Sony. Also practically the definition of "casual" by most standards, but only most, not all, which is why the casual and core labels are meaningless.

PS, see how I cropped the quote tree? It's not hard. I highly recommend it.

You croppped nothing. The best selling games on the PS2 were core games. Not so on the Wii. PS2 owes a large amount of its market dominance to DVD... in its first year. In the 2nd year, they destroyed with:

GT3: A-Spec

GTA 3

MGS2

FFX

Jak & Daxter

TM: Black

PS2 wasnt a casual console in the same sense as Wii. Wii did it with software aimed at people who dont play games, PS2 did it by being the first console to play DVDs. Alot of people didnt buy PS2 because it was a game system but because it was a DVD player that happened to play games as well and the same price.

Except those people who bought a PS2 to play DVDs are a much smaller fraction that the casuals that bought the Wii. Afterall, by 2001, DVD players cheaper than the PS2 were available. I bought a DVD player in 2002 (to watch LOTR:FotR Extended Edition) and I was still in high school back then.
