Yokai really lost all its appeal fast.

While there are still over 70 days left, I can see where you are coming from.
For all the talk about YW4 showing up Pokemon and it being a big third-party exclusive in Japan, it is kinda weird that its kinda going on a grind with its COMG performance, so far. Granted, Switch games (mainly first party games) have had mostly ok/mediocre COMG performances, but still ended up selling decently and have decent legs. Still, this is Yokai Watch, which once was thought to be the franchise to take the crown over Pokemon in Japan.
Has oversaturation of the 3DS games affected its appeal? I wonder what the current pulse is in Japan, in regards to Yokai Watch. It could be trouble if it ends up having significantly lower sales than the 3DS games as it still has not been able to catch that big break overseas.

Popularity of the Yokai Watch brand has gone down a lot: This is how the TV series fared over the past few years. While this is Google data (Japan likes Yahoo more) i think the national trend would be very similar. The anime peaked and Yokai Watch got called the "Pokemon killer" but it was never able to hold that popularity for multiple reasons. Since then interest in the show has declined a lot. Thats why I said to not expect too much form YW4. It will do good but it won't set Japan on fire. Back then it was the anime that boosted sales of the games and unless the anime has some breakout success again I don't see the same sales heights happening for the upcoming game. |
We will have to see how the upcoming anime fares. Apparently the fourth movie (a movie based on the sequel anime of the original Yokai Watch series) was used as an attempt to reboot (or have a "new flow" according to the series' creator) the series, along with the upcoming fourth game.
A lousy weekend followed up with a lousy Monday. Looks like we'll be delving even further into the single digits in a few days.
As for Yokai Watch, I'm not the least bit surprised. It was never going to be a Pokemon killer. At its peak, the closest it ever got in sales to the Pokemon brand was nearly matching the 3rd gen remakes. It never stood a chance.
3 for Nintendo, but tax evaders get nothing!

very slow day, think we need FFVIIR and granblue fantasy on the chart😊
Still no Azur Lane, gotta say I'm a bit surprised. Guess the mobile gaming otaku aren't so easy to latch onto console games.
