I understand that the open world style gameplay is done to appeal to the West, but I would have thought One Piece: World Seeker would have more hype behind it. Game looks really good imo.

With the exception of the Grand Battle series on PS1, non-musou One Piece games tend to quite poorly on Sony systems.

That's...quite interesting. Considering Sony usually gets the third party games and usually has a solid enough userbase in Japan to have better sales potential for One Piece. And One Piece, after 2 decades, has remained one of the most popular manga/anime series, especially in Japan.
Nintendo usually does not get as much One Piece games. Thus, I wonder how One Piece has struggled, outside of musou games, in Japan?

Not sure why, Japan doesn't really dig the 3rd person action/adventure games that have flourished in the west. One Piece outside of musous and simple fighters is basically dead on consoles. I'd like to see World Seeker succeed, but I don't really have high expectations for it. I'd say that ever since One Piece hit its absolute peak with the time skip (this is around when Film Z released) it has been slowly been losing steam in terms of popularity. Granted, it's still by far and large the most popular manga that's currently printing but there was an extra frenzy for a period that has dissipated for quit some time now.
I'd say that, in general in Japan, anime properties that aren't aimed mainly at young kids, do not have a thriving ecosystem in terms of console video games and it has been getting worse year-by-year. In 2010 for instance there was an Attack on Titan game for PS3 that sold over 100k copies. Ever since then the highest Titan game on a Sony console was 75k. My unfounded opinion is that western games have gotten far more popular this generation, which is driving down anime games.
