Betting that this game will get a better Metascore than Epic Mickey 2

I'm willing to bet with you that FPSs were not released as much as RPGs or Platformers this year.

And even if it is, what's the problem? Why all this hate towards a genre that is doing really well?

Is it because it's doing well that it is provoking anger on you guys?

I don't play JRPG that much but each month there is like megaton of them released in Japan and they are mostly CTRL+C, CTRL+V.

Do I hate them for that? No, I just think who likes that genre is lucky and giving devs a lot of attention with their wallet.

I have to admit, I generally roll my eyes whenever a new game is announced and it turns out to be yet another FPS. I do like the genre, though I'm more into immersive single-player ones like BioShock and Doom than military and multiplayer focused ones, but the perception is that there have just been way too many this generation. Making a ton of them was just sort of the natural thing to do with the proliferation of online play for consoles and the massive success of Halo, COD, and Battlefield, but at this point there just aren't many FPS games that are doing so hot. The mass market seems to be cooling to them as well, even to Halo slightly, so the market may be saturated now.

So I can agree with Spector in the aggregate. There needs to be more variety. But the problem here - much like the problem with people singling out a little game like Dragon's Crown for "bad" representation of women - is that it's a dick move to take out your frustrations with the whole industry's failings on one particular game. Here's Spector talking about the feelings of his dev team on Epic Mickey even as he's shitting all over the feelings of the guys at MachineGames. What a prick.

I take Warren Spector about as seriously as I do the plot and fiction of Wolfenstein these days. And Wolfenstein's main character's name is B. J. Blazkowicz.

Sure we would like some more veriaty but shitting on someone elses game to grab headlines for yourself is not the way to do it.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

and we all need more mickey because i didn't already see mickey every week in the last decades

You know, Deus Ex is one of the greatest games of all time, so he has my respect for that, BUT....he hasn't made anything worthwhile since then (and it's been quite a while), so until he does, he should maybe consider just shutting his mouth and focusing on his own games instead of bashing other people's work.

I don't care what he says about anything - he was the main man behind Deus Ex. I wish he trashed Human Revolution like that tho, I hate that horrible game.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

I completely agree. I had the same reaction when i found out about it.

Yet another FPS... yay! We dont have enough of those yet apparantly.

If you think JRPG's are all ctrl+c and ctrl+v, FPS' would be carbon copies.

Seriously... do you remember the first wolfenstein and the first doom? How has the genre's gameplay evolved since those games? They still play the same. I dont understand how some people dont get absolutely fed up by them. Its always the same game gameplay wise with different colors. On a JRPG at least the combat systems change so it really isnt the same gameplay wise.

VIVA EVOLUTION.

There is probably some value to a Wolfenstein reboot, so his opinion may be a bit premature, but I agree with his sentiment.

The theme of the game (blast-'em-all), and the unending reboots, is an unhealthy trend in the industry that hinges on the obsessive. Whereas what Warren Spector stands for are immersive worlds of fantasy and creativity, and that nowadays is refreshing.

See... and here... I thought the world DID need a new one. It's been a while.. and it's more or less the grand daddy of the popular dark and gritty shooters...

So really it SHOULD be around.
