Forums - Sales - Will the PS4 outsell the XBox One and WiiU?

He didn't say that the graphics wouldn't be better than Wii U graphics. Just that the difference in IQ isn't going to be huge. Think of the difference between PC Medium settings and High or Very High settings. There isn't going to be that much difference. Just having Wii U games in 720p as opposed to 1080p is going to need half the processing power to reproduce.

And good luck with expecting a game with thousands of online players, unless the game features bots you're going to struggle to find the players needed to play the game later on down the road, plus it'll be a nightmare to test properly.

Wow your almost as stubborn as me! :) But dude... if going to 1080p takes twice as much processing power, and most people won't even notice it, then what makes you think all ps4/ Xbox720 games will be in 1080p? The difference between pc and consoles is that nobody tries to make games that push a GTX680 to it's limits. The games are designed to give the same experience on a $80 as on a $1000 Titan gpu. All that a expensive gpu adds is some eyecandy that has no real function to the game and only enthusiast will really notice, unless they run a lot of mods. However, with the ps4/ Nextbox developers will try to push these new consoles to the max and get the best visuals on screen as possible (could very well be 30fps at 720p if that looks better). Personally I think the added resolution really makes a difference but developers can also choose to go 720p and have twice the processing power available to do other crazy things.

The point is that the Wii U is already maxed out at 720p and developers need to work around the hardware weaknesses to do ports of current gen games. That's why the Wii U isn't really considered a next gen console, at least not by developers. Maybe you have a better insight, but right now I'd rather believe developers who actually worked on the thing.

Insomniac CEO Ted Price has commented on next-gen consoles but says he considers Wii U “current gen.” In an Ask Me Anything post on Reddit, Price was asked for his thoughts on “next gen consoles” including “the new one from MS, PS4 and WII-U.”

I can tell you never played on pc because massive online games are pretty standard there. Think of games like WOW, or Planet side 2 where you have thousands of people playing together in a seamless giant map. There is a reason why we aren't seeing that in current console games and why BF3 has only 24 player maps as opposed to 64 on the pc. With the focus on social gaming and sharing, these are the type of games that will really shine on next gen hardware. Some will probably be free to play and have microtransactions to buy upgrades and stuff. Planetside seems to do it right and is really active right now, so it makes sense that we will see that game (or maybe a Planetside3) make it's way to the ps4 as well. Also, Bungie's new game might very well be the next gen version of MW.

Mmm... I'm thinking it'll end up more like this -

100 million PS4
75 million NextBox
75 million WiiU

PS4 is in a good position, but we don't have all of the details yet (overall design, pricing, ecetera). There's still plenty of room for error between now and a year or so into PS4's lifespan.

How the "Infinity" or whatever performs lies almost entirely on whether or not Microsoft can dispel preconceived notions about the console. Regardless, I'd imagine that most third-party efforts will be published on both PS4 and Infinity, and Microsoft is stepping up their first party development to better compete with Sony. Should do okay at least because of the mainstream Xbox fan.

Wii U has a good shot at a complete 180, but that again lies in how Nintendo changes perceptions of the console. Positioning it as the most "family-friendly" of the three could have its benefits... or it could massively backfire. Either way, I find it hard to believe that the masses would turn a blind eye once we start seeing several beloved Nintendo franchises in HD for the first time.

bolded: giant faceplam.

Hey it's the truth man. Remember how many games were announced as native 1080p at the Wii U announcement? Would be kinda silly to do that knowing the console was designed as a 720 native machine. Now you tell me how many games actually turned out to be native 1080p? Developers just couldn't pull it off, even with current gen ports, and decided to lower it to 720p.

no, i don't recall games being announced as 1080p, i do remember the console being anounced as 1080p capable. And when you said devs have to go around "the hardware weakness" to port las gen titles, that was just laughable and shows you don't have a clue about what you're talking.

I think the PS4 will outsell the Infinity.

Well your wrong. Since it's a new console everybody expected it to at least run games in 1080p.

Nintendo's representatives at the Chicago Wii U Experience also confirmed that Assassin's Creed 3 will be running at 1080p unlike its counterparts on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, providing gamers with a pretty good reason to pick up the Wii U once it comes out.

Anyway it's a bit stupid to keep repeating the same thing. The Wii U just isn't a next gen console in the traditional sense. We all seen the games, developers all say the same thing and I really don't know how much more prove you need. The Wii U is awesome for people who enjoy the iconic Nintendo franchises or want to buy a more family friendly console for the kids. However, if you really expect next gen graphics then you just bought the wrong console dude. Even Ubisoft, who are supporting the Wii U for 100%, state that it's not a next gen console in the traditional sense.

“Wii U is not a traditional next-gen machine in terms of raw power. The console’s unique features make it a next generation console.”

So like I said in my first post, the Wii might do well but only if they can reach a bigger audience by luring in the casuals again. As a core gaming machine it's just not going to work out for Nintendo though, and it will never reach more then 5% of the total sales of games like MW, especially when they use next gen engines that the Wii U won't run.

I have to give you some credit for trying so hard to infect me and others in this dream world you live.

I love how many developers have already stated that the Wii U's power in on-par with current gens and fanboys still pretend that it isn't. As if these guys seriously have it out for Nintendo that they'd spread lies about their console. I'm pretty sure these guys know more about the Wii U's specs than you guys do, so if they say it, why wouldn't someone unbias such as myself not believe them?

It's almost as if you guys pretend that the devs don't know what's inside the Wii U. Yes, I admit the Wii U is more powerful than the current gen consoles, but let's not pretend like it's going to be able to pump out visuals anywhere near the quality of the PS4's, it's simply not going to happen.

Nobody has said it will pump out visuals anywhere near the quality of the PS4's. We're just saying that the difference isn't going to be huge. Like I've said before we'll end up with PC Medium settings vs PC High or Very High settings in terms of IQ.
