Forums - Nintendo - Why E3 2013 Is The Most Important For Nintendo Ever

I don't think a lack of a conference will be a big deal. Surely it's the games and the release dates, most of which should be playable, which is most important?

And surely devs should stop putting all their eggs in the E3 basket. It's good for a week, but why can't we have major announcements spread out over the year (like the Directs do)?

Because that would be different, and different is a no go.

^You know, speaking of Sonic, I don't think Sega has said or done anything with him in a while, main series wise I mean. Last one was Generations which was over a year ago. Perhaps they've been working on this Mario & Sonic game all this time!?

I think they recently said they were working on a sonic for next gen systems, so im thinking Generations 2 for PS360/WiiU/PS4/720/3DS/Vita

Nintendo doesn't seem to think so. This decision not to have a conference this year is a huge gamble.

I think that Nintendo going into panic mode and altering the way they release public information at E3 is a sign that they think E3 is more important than ever.  If they'd merely kept their same one hour press conference that almost always disappoints, they wouldn't have enough time to announce all of these new games.  They have to devote some portion of every press conference to PR/ marketing speak, sales boasting, and mentioning casual dance/ fitness games that attract mainstream press, but cause E3 watchers to yawn.

Having targeted Nintendo Directs for people following E3 at home means they can show us all their games on their own time, not limited to a one hour show.  They can do three hour-long Directs that week, for all we know.  They certainly have more software announced and to be announced than I can ever remember them having in one year.  Quite substantial.

Even looking at their announced 3DS lineup (which they still haven't announced all of yet), we're looking at, at the least, the most first-party sequels they've ever released in one year.  That's not even including what Wii U software they've got coming, which based on Iwata and NoA's statements, sounds like a lot.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I think Nintendo's most important E3's were when they were presenting the DS and the Wii. They were in a tighter situation than they are today. Also, E3 was a FAR more effective and important show back then. Nowadays, their Nintendo Directs are being taken as seriously as their E3 shows by Nintendo fans, gaming press, and mainstream press. Back before the launch of the Wii, only TGS, Spaceworld, and E3 were taken seriously for announcement platforms. This E3 is not their most important simply because E3 is no longer nearly as important overall.

So saying this E3 is the most important is both ignoring history and ignoring the landscape of the gaming industry today.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Well all they can do is announce big games. Maybe if GTA V and other big games like Call of Duty Ghosts come to the Wii U this fall along with big 1st party exclusives like a real Mario game like Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros.

Black Ops 2 came out on Wii U at launch, that game went on to be ignored. People keep saying how kids love to play Call of Duty which is funny because the games fail to sell well on Nintendo consoles. I think being an M-rated game on the Wii U severely limits sales. A game like Grand Theft Auto V would have a really hard time finding an audience on the Wii U. People buy Nintendo consoles to play the next Zelda or Smash Bros, not Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. These games will have virtually no effect on hardware sales even if they do make it on to the console.

Good points but it wouldn't hurt for them to get GTA V on the Wii U.

Well, it could hurt. They might not make their money back.

^They'd make their money back. It just might not come from GTA hehe.

Oh man I hope it's Generations 2! There are so many awesome levels I'd love to see in HD, namely Ice Cap and Mushroom hill zone.

Nintendo probably has some tricks up their sleeves regarding not doing a huge confrence there has to be solid business plan behind it.

im thinking the same....

i mean averagely there are only 46k attendance in E3 last year... then much much fewer attended the actual conference of the big 3, everything is just published online.  I think they will just focus on the mass which are the people who watch the conference online.

It is funny how people say now it is not about the game.... it is about the game, it has always been
